A lovely setting undone by average food and poor service
How can you say "no" to drinking Earl Grey Tea in The Earl Grey Teahouse? Unfortunately, the food and service simply did not measure up.
The Earl Grey tea itself was tasty - as were the egg salad and watercress sandwiches. Sadly, there were no cucumber sandwiches and the carrot/curry chicken sandwiches were just OK (if a little weird). But the scones and cakes were staggeringly disappointing - bone dry and way too sweet they were basically inedible. It isn't often that we leave scones or cakes behind - even crumbs - but we left most of ours on this day.
As for the service, though it was never made clear the teahouse seemed to work on the theory that everyone is your server. Which in a well run restaurant is great. But here, 'everyone is your server' meant that 'no one is your server'. read more
