We spread everything out because it was a smallish wedding, but could fit many more tables and not feel too crowded
Shannon D.

My husband and I had our wedding reception at the Dumbo loft last summer and couldn't have hoped for a better venue. First off, Chris was wonderful to work with and because I was planning everything from Oregon, communication was incredibly important to me. He even sent me a floor plan so I could plan set up ahead of time, and met with me a couple days before the wedding so I could poke around. The space was a perfect blank slate for our minimal decorations because the architecture makes the space beautiful without need of embellishment. It has everything you need: tables, chairs, garbage, buffet tables, a great sound system you can plug your device into plus mic, great lighting, hooks for hanging things about, bathrooms, and a kitchen area. (I want to point out the tables, chairs and buffet tables are all the Dumbo Loft's, in case you're wondering if you want to rent in house or from someone else. It was so wonderful not worrying about a crew needing to pack up all the furniture at the end of the night.) Our wedding was only 45 people, but the space didn't feel too big or too small. We could have easily fit more people, but it was perfect the way the tables wrapped around the dance floor with the food and beverage tables along the back wall. There is also a great outdoor space acting as a private patio with planters the smokers can sit on. The bridge and small park underneath gave a perfect backdrop for more wedding photos too. For the location and price, the place was amazing. Our wedding was on a Monday so the area was relatively quiet, and that was really nice. I couldn't have imagined a better location.

I've been coming here now pretty regularly for the past 4 years for several networking/techie social gatherings. This is a beautiful, raw and rustic venue space with lots of openness, high ceilings, large pillars strategically placed within the space and large windows which allows for plenty of natural lighting. Space aside, they also boast a pretty decent sound system and there's a gorgeous disco ball installed on the ceiling that I've never actually seen used here, but I'm sure they could seriously have a rockin' party here. I saw some reviews here about how people have had weddings here, I'm sure it's great and you can take some amazing photos in the neighborhood with a park nearby and the beautiful scenery that is the Manhattan Bridge overpass, the large tunnel and plenty of places nearby that would be fitting for a reception afterwards, but I would never use Dumbo Loft for a wedding, just not my style. For networking events, celebrations, speakers, purely social parties then I highly recommend using this space as it's a prime location, (I've heard) not too pricey to book and is a pretty remarkable raw space that can become whatever you want to make of it.

The Dumbo Loft is a great venue for an intimate wedding. My wife and I are so glad we had our wedding here. The venue offers so much potential for a budget DIY wedding. They already have a lot provided such as window lights, disco ball, fan, high ceiling windows, etc. It was a matter of putting up string lights, which was a breeze, and the raw space looks absolutely gorgeous. Staff is professional. The location is amazing. Our guests enjoyed the neighborhood and felt completely safe. Highly recommend!

my wedding party table

I held my wedding here November 2013 and I absolutely loved it! The price was very affordable! The staff were very helpful and everything was clear since the beginning. They have chairs and tables to rent.(tablecloths not included, I bought some off a friend and bought the rest online) I got my event insurance from an online company for $125-$150 for 2 million coverage. We didn't serve alcohol. But if you are going to sell it you need a license. I had 140 for dinner and up to 200 for dancing. We had a friend cater our food and she found the kitchen area big enough. We had our own DJ, we like to dance so we wanted a more party feel to our wedding. I had a few friends decorate early morning before the ceremony. The place has a urban rustic feel already and doesn't need much. DUMBO area is a great place for pictures as well. I would definitely recommend this place for any event!

Ask the Community - The Dumbo Loft

For those that have reserved and have already used this venue, has there been any problems with the in house sound system?

We were pleasantly surprised by how great the sound quality was. We only wished that the microphone had been wireless but the music sounded super solid, and the system was easy to use.

Is there parking at the Dumbo Loft?

There isn't any onsite parking. There's limited parking along the streets and also a couple of parking garages close by.

Overlook is a gorgeous space with floor to ceiling windows and skylights. It overlooks the Bryant Park skating rink, Winter Village and has views of the surrounding buildings. The views here are AMAZING!!! I recently attended one of their free yoga classes as part of their Winter Fitness program. The space is pretty large and comfortably held the 40 or so attendees the night I attended yoga. We all were informed beforehand to bring our own mats and towels as these would not be provided. The yoga sessions are run by different yoga companies and the one I attended was by Sputnik Yoga and was a silent headphone yoga session. We each were provided, free of charge, headphones to wear during class. This was my first time attending a session like this but had a blast! The headphones took a bit getting used to, but I loved that you could clearly hear the teacher during the class. They also played some cool music while helping to block out all other sounds. This really helped me focus on the movement and the instructions. The class was an open level Vinyasa but the movements and flow were slightly advance. It was quite a workout and I was sweaty by the end. After class, we were each given wipes to sanitize the headphones and our mats. Then we all took selfies in this beautiful space and one final group picture, which they posted on their Instagram account. This was by far the coolest yoga class I've ever taken. I've been telling all of my friends and co-workers about it and have already signed up for some of their upcoming classes. Overlook offers other types of activities like Meditation, Ribbon Dancing, Barre classes and Story time for kids. It is a great place to watch the skaters below and enjoy Bryant Park's free activities. I highly recommend trying them out.

45 Downing - Beautiful Ceremony Set-up

We recently got married there (8/6/16) and everyone was raving about what a great time they had. We decided to have a Gastby/Speakeasy style wedding in black and gold, and it worked perfectly with the venue. The statues and stained glass windows were absolutely stunning as a focal point for the ceremony. My favourite part was the upstairs garden room where the bridal party got ready. Everyone was snapping pictures in the bathroom as it looks like it is straight out of a magazine. Monika was our coordinator. She was very insightful, incredibly patient and accommodating, and did not hesitate to go out of her way to ensure our wedding was exactly what we had envisioned. Her experience in coordinating weddings is apparent from the get go and she wasn't shy to make suggestions and/or point out issues that may interrupt or make the flow of the wedding unnecessarily awkward. I ended up doing all the decor/flowers myself (we had a small budget wedding with 90 people) and Monika went out of her way to allow us to come in the day before (lucky for us they were not booked that day) to set everything up and rehearse. The best part about our wedding was that we came in pretty much on our budget (16,000ish). I had been very frustrated and upset with how expensive other venues were (we had checked out one in Brooklyn that was just a warehouse for 11,000- and that DID NOT include silverware/catering/alcohol- just the shell!). I finally came across Alger House by searching "inexpensive wedding venue NYC" and as soon as I saw it I had a great feeling. What blew my mind was that food, alcohol, linens, tables etc. was all INCLUDED! When I got the final bill from Monika I actually did a happy dance! I called my husband so excited that it was less than what I was expecting! Though it was inexpensive do not be fooled- it was the BEST SERVICE. Monika did the greatest job helping us coordinate our wedding. Because of her experience, our wedding was more than we could have hoped it could be. She was on top of everything- replying to emails within minutes, meeting with me several times to answer questions going above and beyond to make sure I had a good experience. On the day of the wedding as we were being reintroduced to the reception as husband and wife (after a swift conversion of the space-10 mins) the DJ played our first dance song. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Monika scoot over to the DJ and explain that it was our first dance song and the music quickly changed. She was ON IT. We would not hesitate to recommend the Alger House for a beautiful, intimate wedding and particularly Monika. We don't think our vision would have been possible without her.

Glasshouse executed wonderfully - the staff wore both gloves and masks at all times, the dinner tables were spread 6 feet apart for distant seating, there was ample sanitizing lotion, and the outdoor deck was always open to ensure constant air flow, among other safety measures they thoughtfully helped us with. Alan and team executed a flawless and unforgettable engagement party. We are beyond happy and couldn't have asked for a better and safe night. Much kudos to Glasshouse for providing one of the best times of our lives while being 100% safe, providing some positive light during these extraordinary times. The event location offers sweeping views of the Hudson River, the Vessel, and a good deal of Manhattan and New Jersey's Gold Coast. The areas are supposed to be customizable, and I recently attended a party on the 21st floor. The space was more limited than I had expected, but I think it might have been configured as such. For instance, according to its website, it could fit up to 150 guests for a cocktail party or 20-120 guests for a seated dinner, but this setup held about 60-70 patrons. However, it was able to accommodate a coat check, a bar, a DJ station, a photo booth, and a few couches, while still allowing room for attendees to gather in groups and servers to pass out hors d'oeuvres. The party I attended was catered by Abigail Kirsch, and the food was fabulous in both taste and quantity. So, while the Glasshouse Chelsea is pretty far west and not the most convenient, its ability to set the scene for a great event makes it worth the trip, either as an organizer/planner or as an attendee.
