This is another update to my previous reviews of the Drapery Shop in Vista. In one word: Outstanding! Lewis (the owner) and his team are just amazing. They are nice, friendly, knowledgeable, professional, and trust worthy. Simply said they know what they are doing after being in business for over 52 years since 1972. This is longer than half a century; showing how good they are in the business. Of the 20 wood blinds they installed for us back in 2002, only three with direct sunshine and maybe a little moisture, had peeled off slats after all these years and were replaced in 2019. Recently, the open/close mechanism for one of the original wood blinds in the family room stopped working. I called Lewis and he scheduled Gabriel to come to our place and fix it. Gabriel showed up at our place next day on time and fixed the blind within 10 minutes and it works perfectly now. Gabriel was extremely nice, friendly, professional and helpful. The Drapery Shop made and installed these floor to ceiling drapes for my living room. They hang from second floor height. They are double lined with a batting and cotton sheeting. I needed some extremely long drapes for my patio sliding door and the window above it (144"). I wasn't sure what would look good. Theresa, their design expert, came out and helped me decide what to choose. She was very helpful and so knowledgeable. She helped me pick what type of pleats (triple Parisian) and the right fabric (a sheer textured fabric that matches my color scheme). Because they have their own workroom the drapes were ready in 3 weeks. The price was significantly less than other estimates I obtained due to their workroom bring on site. The linen blackout drapes in my guest room have transformed it -- my guests are sleeping so much better! I would say they keep virtually all light completely out! Theresa knows her stuff. I had wanted to keep my former wooden hardware (rod and rings), but she advised me to go with new, as the drapes would not function as well with my more decorative than practical set-up. We had our bedroom done in Roman shades and a large window covered ceiling to floor. Teresa Brown came out and we asked her to block 100% of the light. She said she knew exactly what we needed. The job was done well however the light was not blocked 100% and we still are wakened by the early sunrise . so that's a lot of money and our purpose was not accomplished. When I complained and suggested we try something else she said many people put a piece of cardboard behind shades and curtains . I could've done that with my oid window treatment!! When the cords started breaking on the Roman shades I was quoted a ridiculously high price if they came out but was told the price would be much better if I brought the shade to them . I wasn't about to . I fixed it myself at a 90% savings. the drapery shop gives bad customer service at an exorbitant price . buyer beware!! read more

Well, a very unaccommodating woman told me that they do not provide in home service, & if I wanted to have it fixed, then I would need to bring it into their store. Our Family recently while looking for blinds to accent our existing drapery saw a van on our street advertising for The Drapery Shop a local business to our area in San Marcos. We contacted a gentleman named Mark Trible who is the installation manager at the company. We promptly made an appointment with Mark. He came to our house and showed us a wide variety of blinds and window coverings in detail of which we chose to use Woven Woods from Horizons. The estimate for customizing, and installation etc. was within the range we could afford. Mark after accepting our order kept us up to date on the progress of the manufacturing of the blinds that we wanted, and when finished immediately came over to do the installation. The entire process was well below the estimated time we were originally given for completion by about 3 days. Mark Trible displayed patience, confidence, and kindness throughout the installation. He was neat and orderly handling our furniture with care and never making any sort of mess. He was very proficient and professional during the entire process. What really amazed us besides being so thorough is that he went well above, and beyond what we expected from him, removing our existing drapery, and re-installing it so it would be anchored into the wall more securely therefore preventing a possible safety hazard if it fell, which it actually did once before. He checked and secured all of our drapery in the house even in windows we did not install the Woven Woods from Horizon blinds we ordered. We hired the Drapery Shop to install shutters in my kids room back in 2010. A main reason why is because of their guarantee and their professionalism at the time of estimate. Since the installation, my 3 year old has been extremely rough with the shutters and we have had to call them out 5 times to repair the shutters. Each time, there are no hassles , they show up on time and do a great job. They could very easily challenge the guarantee because of my 3 year old slamming them as hard as he can muster, but they do stand behind their work 100%. My whole house needs new window coverings, shutters, etc., and since I was referred to The Drapery Shop in Vista by the manufacturer, Hunter Douglas, for a warranty issue on two little blinds, I thought I would do business with them for everything else. Fortunately, they let me know ahead of time when I called them that I should call another drapery shop for warranty issues (and even gave me the name and phone number of a service oriented drapery showroom!) as they didn't want to be bothered with sending the blinds back to Hunter Douglas! I used the Drapery Shop for custom drapes in a few rooms as well as for a pair of Roman Shades over our french doors. This was the first time we had ordered custom drapes so the process was new to us. It felt overwhelming at first as there are so many choices to make, what fabric to pick, where to even start, what color, what rod, what trim, what pleat, etc. Theresa from the Drapery Shop came to our home and spent several hours patiently going over all the options and offering advice. My husband and I appreciated the fact that she did not push any products on us. She was down to earth and honest. I had previously requested a consultation from Macy's. When I spoke to that designer on the phone and listed the rooms I wanted done, her first question was if I had any idea what it would cost and if I could even afford it. Wow. It was not said in a well-intention-ed way but in a tone that many people would have hung up on. That was a sign right then that this was a bad idea, but I wanted to see my options. If you're wondering what I said to make her ask that, well, all I said was, I would like to get these following rooms decorated. I gave her the benefit of the doubt; maybe she was concerned or maybe a lot of people have no idea who much drapes may cost, who knows. That designer came, spent about half an hour (less), pushed me to pick colors and fabrics with disregard for what I wanted. Maybe our tastes clashed, I don't know. So what if I did not want super colorful patterns. Some of her samples were nice, but nothing really stood out. Why would I want to spend thousands on some fabrics I barely liked? She rushed out of there to go to her other client, near Rancho Santa Fe. It was almost comical. She sent me a quote many days later, not itemized and was thrown together. It was something like, "your quote is $XXX, not including hardware or installation, end of quote". I asked if I could actually spend time looking at the fabrics but got an attitude for that. Really? Am I the only one who cannot decide what fabrics and hardware to pick for multiple rooms in that first half hour? I mean, not half an hour per room, but for all the rooms. How dare I want more of her time. Wow. I think I was much nicer than I had to be, but it was not worth arguing over so I just stopped bothering. Of course, she never followed up. You're probably wondering why I even bothered to respond the second time. I think at that point, I was just curious as to what she would say, and it was an interesting social experiment. I was nice in all the exchanges. It amazes how people can be like that. That is one designer and service we will never use. I know Macy's sometimes gets a bad rap, but other services we have used with them have been great. The consultants you get from requesting online do not work for them, just consult. Now, Theresa, on the other hand, was the opposite. She listened to what kind of fabric and colors I was interested in. We had some trouble deciding on a fabric for one of the rooms, and she made many trips to her car to bring more samples. The thing was, she actually paid attention to what we were looking for so the samples that came back were getting closer to what we were looking for. We were able to pick fabrics for the rooms, rods, finials, trim, etc. When I received my quote, everything was detailed and itemized by room. She was available via telephone and email. I also received fabric samples that we had chosen within a week. Then I threw a curve ball and said I wanted everything within a constrained time frame. Some of the fabrics were not available, and would not be shipped for months. She spent a lot of time, at least some time each week in the following weeks, trying to procure the fabrics for me. She managed to pull it all together in a month. That is start to install. It's hard to describe how difficult that is considering one of the fabrics was out of reach for awhile. I had already signed the contract so regardless of them making the time frame or not, everything was ordered. I appreciated the fact that she didn't disappear after closing the deal but really worked at getting it all done. The customer service felt personalized, and I truly appreciated it. The installer was friendly and he did a great job installing everything. My husband, Mr. Practical, who thinks paper blinds are sufficient as window coverings, had to admit the drapes really finished the room. They are quite lovely. Out of all the installs, one of my panels did not hang well. I guess I have to retrain it. When I contacted them, they said they will come back out if necessary to train that panel. The panel itself is gorgeous. You are working directly with the work room and the drapes are sewn locally. The rods are made locally as well. They are well made and beautiful. Overall, the quality of the products is wonderful. I have a couple more rooms I want to dress up and will use them again. read more

Sorry, I've used The Drapery Shop periodically over the last 20 years, and I just can't be bothered to continue to use them. They have great materials and worksmanship and the prices are always the highest around. But their customer service is AWFUL. Just show up and try to get somebody to stop talking on the phone to help. Or get them to stay with you when the phone rings again. The phone rings incessantly - I guess business is good and people don't mind paying the highest price in North San Diego County. But they simply ignore every live customer in favor of jumping for the phone no matter where you are in the "queue". This last time, we ended walking out after 10 minutes of being unable to get anybody's attention (the only ones there, but competing with the telephones).
