If you have priced installed made-to-order window coverings, you have probably found that the prices vary, as well as the quality of the products. Understanding this, my wife and I needed some new window coverings for our living room, dining room and a guest bedroom. We researched until we found five companies that had a large number of high reviews, above 4.8 on a scale of 5. We found all the sales people to be pleasant and their offerings varied, but one stood out above the rest, and that was Window Spaces. A small, local company, Katie, the owner, came for the estimate. After measurements, and spending time understanding what we wanted, she provided several options, with various price points. She was patient, thoughtful, knowledgeable, and seemed focus on matching our wishes with our needs. We indicated we wanted quality products. She gave us a bid that included Hunter Douglas products, a Roman blind for the guest room and draperies from the Hunter Douglas owned drape manufacturer. Of the five bids we received, Katie's bid was both the lowest and had the highest quality products. In fact, we had a bid from a company that deals solely with Hunter Douglas and when I called to let him know we would be going with another company that also offered Hunter Douglas. He asked if I could share the bid. I said it was a couple of thousand less than his bid. He seemed surprised and doubtful, but I assured him the bid was very explicit and Window Spaces listed the specific products, fabrics and manufacturers. Katie told us specifically the time frame for manufacturing, shipping and installation. She sent us confirmation of the orders to the manufacturers and their promised shipment date. Her customer skills are outstanding. She kept us informed and let us know when a part of the order arrived and offered to have it installed sooner than the promised date if we wished. On the day of installation, Hunter arrived first to install the blinds and was followed by Katie. Katie came in and she and Hunter installed the drapery sheers. Then she steamed them making sure they hung just right and picture perfect. There is something reassuring about dealing with a small business owner who obviously enjoys and is committed to the quality of her craftsmanship and serving her customers. Our remote controlled blinds stopped working. Since these blinds are more than 12 feet high, we couldn't change the batteries ourselves. Katie, the owner, scheduled the appointment for the next day. Excellent service and prices! I knew exactly what blinds I needed for one room of our house. I called several companies for quotes on the exact same product, color and dimensions. Window Spaces was SIGNIFICANTLY less expensive for the EXACT SAME blinds. I believe it is because they do not have a physical showroom. They bring everything to your house which makes so much more sense! I have to say the service from both Katie and the installer Nick was truly excellent. We purchased two blinds from Katie and are VERY happy with both. The first was a roller shade with large headrail for our kitchen window and it looks wonderful. The second was a honeycomb shade to fit inside a skylight well in our kitchen ceiling. That shade is the coolest thing ever! It operates from a remote control and allows the shade to be completely closed, completely open or any position in between. It's a wonderful solution to the dilemma that often accompanies a skylight....the light is lovely but can be overwhelmingly bright during some portions of the day. Now we can control that light perfectly! We found Katie to be professional, knowledgable and very responsive. 2/11/21 update - changing my review to 5 stars as I do love my shades and Katie has been great to work with. Her response below is a great example of that! Katie was a pleasure to work with. She was very patient and knowledgeable as we discussed the window covering options for my home. Unfortunately we agreed on an initial solution and then had to start over when she informed me later of the exposed hardware details which I didn't prefer. In hindsight I should have asked to see detailed drawings and specs on the attachment hardware before we chose a manufacturer and fabric. It was an issue because I originally didn't plan to install valences. Also when the installation crew came out to install they were not informed of the preferred attachment heights for the valences as Katie and I had discussed in detail prior to ordering. I found that I had to review these details with the installation crew and supervise the install myself which was not ideal. For example, two of the valences were ordered the incorrect size and one of the shades was the incorrect fabric. The crew installed it all before notifying me of the discrepancy. So, they had to uninstall so that Katie could re-order. She re-ordered and had the new valences and shades installed as quickly as possible. Overall, I'm providing them 4 stars because Katie is very knowledgeable, honest, kind and strove to always provide excellent customer services. I always knew the timing for material shipment and delivery and the installation crew did a great job (considering the incorrect material which they installed anyway). I worked with Katie in 2021 for new window coverings in my house. She was so helpful and came with great ideas and is very knowledgeable on a wide array of potential products to use. She listens carefully to what the customer wants and suggests products accordingly. However, this review is not about my initial contact with her during selection in install, which was all outstanding - this review is about how she stands behind her work. Eighteen months after the original work, on a Sunday and three days before I was expecting out of town guests, the rod for an eight-foot living room drapery (across a double sliding glass door) separated from the wall connection, so the rod and drapery were hanging down towards the floor. There was no breakage, it appeared that the screws in the attachment popped out of the wall. I hoped to address the matter ASAP since I had guests arriving. I texted Katie on that Sunday (really feeling badly about doing so but knowing her schedule is busy and wanting to at least get on her radar if possible), and I really was not expecting a response but hoping I might connect with her on Monday, but Katie responded within minutes on a Sunday. No excuses, no questions, no claims that it is not her problem - just the opposite, she was immediately compassionate and apologetic and told me she would look at her schedule and address the issue right away. She followed up several times with updates of when they could take care of it, which happened Tuesday morning with Nick coming out to re-install with deeper screws and carefully tidying up. It was a smooth process to review the samples that Katie brought with her to our house, and she was very knowledgeable and comprehensive in proposing solutions. Katie was very patient in explaining the pros and cons of different window treatment options that we were considering, and we ended up ordering one shutter, two blinds and four Roman shades. After the installation, we both noticed that one of the larger Roman shades was hanging uneven at the bottom (a fabrication issue, not the install), so we decided to see if the shade would settle on its own.
