Downtown Grille has made it to the list of top 5 best meals I've ever had ! Beautifully decorated I expected it to be a lot bigger but it was perfectly cozy . Everyone was friendly and very helpful. We started with the crab dip . Absolutely amazing . Perfect crunch of breadcrumbs on top accompanied by nice fresh chunks of crab . For dinner we shared lamb chops and the rib eye topped with the bone marrow butter I believe . The meat was velvety and buttery it melts in your mouth. I almost regret not ordering the waygu special but im hoping it'll be around when we visit again .

One of my consistent favorites in Winston Salem! They really focus on local produce and it shows in all of their dishes. My favorite Friday night is grabbing a bar seat, ordering a dirty martini, and spitting all of the small plates. There's usually some sort of crudo which is always refreshing and light, and recently I've been loving the tomato specials!

Friend took me to this upscale classic restaurant downtown W-S on West Fifth Street. Plentiful tables with room for large parties. The layout was perfect. Kim was our host who took care of us. I ordered Grill Octopus that was cooked to perfection. My selection for main course was Bone In Rack of Lamb. Loved it! Selection for side dish creamed corn that is one of my favorite choices if have on menu. Service was top notch. Only complaint was for a cocktail wanted a Bloody Mary where they had NO MIX. Why? Ordered another cocktail. Not an inexpensive dinner but one where you visit for a special occasion. Overall we were Pleased with service and food choices. I was too full so skipped dessert. Again high end restaurant that has major attributes.

Had a fantastic meal at The Downtown Grille. We opted for small plates and cocktails and loved our choices. The standouts for me were the chicken, crab dip, and crème brûlée - but everything was phenomenal. Also loved that they had a special on the small plates the night that we went. Will absolutely be adding to our rotation.

Lovely restaurant! Perfect for a special occasion! My fiancé took me here on my birthday + I adored the place. The setting is high end + elegant! (Reminds us of the Titanic haha...) As a vegan, this restaurant is very accommodating to people with dietary restrictions! Amazing dishes. Highly recommend the farmer's plate and bread service. Plus, the drinks + coffee are to die for! ++ The employees have all been extremely kind to us each time we dined here!

The building is beautiful! The staff are friendly and welcoming. The food and cocktails were good. To be honest though my favorite part of my salmon meal was the cucumber salad. It was so light and refreshing. Summer was captured in a bite!

    Tres leches, delicious

I had the pleasure of celebrating my 39th birthday tonight, and I can't thank our waiter Alex enough for the incredible hospitality. From the moment we arrived, Alex made us feel welcome, offering thoughtful food and drink suggestions that were nothing short of perfect. He's truly a one-of-a-kind human being. We're visiting Winston-Salem for my niece's graduation and decided to sit at the bar. My partner and I found ourselves talking about basketball, the little things that make us happy, and just really connecting with each other and with Alex. It reminded us of the beauty of genuine human interaction. I also want to thank John, the manager, for the time and conversation. The culture you all have created is something special it's clear that this is a place where everyone can feel welcomed. Every recommendation was spot on: the crab dip, Caesar salad, chicken marsala, steak, tres leches cake, and the drinks phenomenal from start to finish. Thank you for giving us the best gift of all: connection. Thank you again to all the staff and the amazing chef. Cheers to days like today.

We had a delightful evening. Sat at the bar. Via was very friendly and helpful throughout our entire meal. We ordered the wedge salad which was amazing. Brussels in peach vinegar aioli, blackened grilled salmon in a white bean & pancetta salad and the fermented chili fried chicken. It was all cooked perfectly and was delicious.

Another great fine dining place in downtown Winston that is good! Been meaning to try this place for awhile....heard mixed reviews but I think they have it together now! Great service , nice atmosphere, great variety on a pretty small menu, huge wine list, this is important! I loved the casual seating at the bar, but the tables were nice white tablecloth type setting. Our sever was awesome, super knowledgeable about the menu and food in general. We got a nice bottle of red wine, and the octopus as an appetizer and the truffle fries. Both of those were excellent, well cooked octopus, not chewy! Loved the the potatoes and sauce on the dish. The cheese on the truffle fries was awesome too! I shared the mushroom bolognese, this comes with house made pasta which was so good, perfectly Al dente. The sauce was so thick and you wouldn't miss the meat if you didn't know, they had the mushroom consistency down really well. The burger and fries another friend had also got the thumbs up, it looked amazing. They source their meats and veggies from local outlets and so you always feel good about that at a restaurant. They also grow some of their herbs on the patio. Which is where I'd like to come back when it's warmer. Our dessert was also delicious. The Baked Jalisco, a spiced brownie with horchata ice cream , nice and cinnamony! With dulce de leche, and a awesome toasted meringue. It looked so good, and tasted chocolaty and a little spicy, but not in the hot way, like cinnamon. Great mix of meringue and cold ice cream, then the smooth brownie. This is a must because it's just different. We had an awesome time here, and I look forward to coming back another season, because they change their menu every season which I love when places do that. So glad to have finally tried DG! Second time back here, and it just gets better....we had the best server in Alex, so knowledgeable and helpful and full of good suggestions. Thank you Alex! Our food again was outstanding. The truffle fries are one of the best in town. The octopus is good good with the Patatas bravas . Great mesh of textures. The shrimp pasta, wow this new addition to the small plates menu is so unique and I love the slight lemon flavored sauce. Hand made squid ink orecchiette, seared shrimp, Calabrian chili and preserved lemon cream, with brown butter panko crumbs, honestly I can't rave enough about this. Our birthday girl opted for the catfish and grits, which she said was creamy, rich, cheesy, again unique. The catfish was a nice different touch. It looked amazing with grape tomatoes and black pearl mushrooms, and winter greens. They gave us a complimentary dessert for her birthday and you can pick anything off the dessert list. She chose the old fashioned bread pudding. With Bobby boys sea salt bun, golden raisins, custard chocolate and whiskey sauce, this was a extremely, rich and decadent dessert. Not what you expect when you hear bread pudding, but again unique, and great marriage of flavor. I loved the whiskey sauce. Our bottle of Prosecco and espresso martinis were also great with our dinner and dessert. I love that everything we've had at the fine dining location is always better than I think it could be. It's a great problem...if your thinking of coming here, don't wait to long!

An incredible experience. The food was absolutely amazing, the service was very knowledgeable, and the chef even comes out to serve some of the dishes, which is a rarity. The atmosphere is really nice and calm and extra extraordinarily clean.

hands down my fave bar in Winston. see via. she's the coolest and the smartest and her mixology slash personality will make you wish you were into women if you are, in fact, not. also. they will chase you with the leftovers you forgot. god I love this place.

I finally made it to The Downtown Grille and I'm so glad I did. To be honest, when it first opened I looked at the menu and just wasn't intrigued enough to go but I've been hearing some good things so I decided it was finally time to go try it for myself. Located downtown on the first floor of an office building it doesn't sound that exciting but they've done a great job creating some upscale ambiance. It has a nice adult feel and sets the right tone for a great meal. Our server was very good, and it felt like a treat to have great service to match the meal....a rare offering in my opinion. Pictured is the salmon with winter vegetables in a curry pepper coulis and the ahi tuna small plate special. We finished off the meal with the baked Jalisco which was so much better than it looks in the picture. It's a spiced brownie with horchata ice cream, meringue and salted caramel sauce ...so good with all the different elements of a little heat, cinnamon, chocolate and salty sweet finish. Lovely

Went in during the Black theater festival and even with their closeness to some of the event spots they weren't too busy but had several groups that were in town for the festival. They have several two tops and with the natural lighting it is a very bright and calming restaurant. Our waiter was Tom and he gave great recommendations and descriptions of all the food items and great answers to our questions. We opted for the Thursday special which is a burger, fries, and a beer or glass of wine for $25. The wine options have every wine preference covered with bubbles, sweet, and dry options. The burger was juicy and flavorful. It was seasoned well. I loved the house made pickles and the dressed greens. I'm usually not a fan of special sauces but the comeback sauce had a little space and not too much mayonnaise so I actually enjoyed it. The fries were flavorful and crispy. I couldn't stop eating the fries!

When we first walked in, it was busy and we heard the hostess tell the couple in front of us they would need to wait over an hour for a table - Lucky for me my wife made reservations and we were seated immediately! It was a bit on the noisy side but not so bad we couldn't have a conversation. Our servers, Thomas, was fantastic start to finish with good recommendations, attentive service without being overbearing, and a great personality. Good staff make a business shine! We started with glasses of wine and were impressed with how generous they poured. Perhaps it was a visual illusion, but they felt like very large glasses of wine and made it feel like a very good value. They have a good selection of wines to choose from along with a full bar. Appetizer was the Crab Cake Egg Rolls, something I don't think I've seen anywhere else. They're cooked in Beef Tallow which gave a very savory flavor and crispy texture. They were a bit on the oily side but overall flavor was delicious, and I really liked the dipping sauce which was like a very herb-heavy tartar sauce. For entrees, my wife had the Filet and I had a New York Strip. I don't have the words to describe how delicious and perfectly prepared both of these were. I didn't even bother asking for steak sauce because the perfectly tender and seasoned steak didn't need it. Nobody wants to pay high prices for a steak and receive something low quality, and I was thrilled with the quality of the steaks here. Surrounding tables likewise had great looking meals and I overheard them voicing pleasure too. As sides go, the baked potatoes and salads were excellent too. I got the hot bacon vinegarette dressing and was surprised it was actually served quite hot. It had a really rich and slightly tangy flavor that was unique and I really enjoyed on my salad. I have no complaints here and will absolutely be back. Of course it's on the pricey end, but this is the type of establishment you reserve for a special night out, not your average Tuesday night. Give it a try and you won't be disappointed!

Anyway, we ordered the pot roast nachos and a cup of the soup du jour which came very quickly. Both were excellent and a great start to the meal. The attire is business casual or totally upscale as you prefer. This time I came here for a seminar. Their were around 50 attendees so we were seated in the back room on the 3rd level. This is an absolute stellar, caring and accommodating staff starting with the reception people to the amazing servers. I have rarely experienced such hard working, special waitstaff that really care for the comfort of their guests. The food was quite wonderful. We started off w shrimp cocktail shared around the table due to lack of room and so as not to interrupt the meeting. After shrimp appetizer our next dish was a delicious crab dip. Next came the Caesar salad a very simple dish not like the famous salad much lighter in taste. It was just okay. The main dish I selected was filet, medium, if you like your steak med rare this is for you I prefer mine cooked just a tad more done. Nonetheless it was delicious and so tender! The dessert was cheesecake or triple chocolate. Im not big on either of the 2 desserts but they included it w the meal so I selected the Cheesecake to take home; it was plain and unadorned. Can't complement the staff enough they made sure all 50 of us had our food quickly, still warm and efficiently served like a well oiled machine. There were smiles on their.faces and no hint of stress or anxiety just excellent service. I was very impressed. The only thing I don't like is the stairs to the different dining areas. It's a little challenging especially if you've had a cocktail. This is part of the construction due to the slanted topography. If it wasn't as such you wouldn't be able to see the romantic view of the forest all lit up below. It's a great place for dinner so zip in, there's plenty of parking!

I'm not drinking at the moment, so I sadly wasn't able to partake in the craft cocktails The Katharine is known for. However, I did enjoy an alcohol alternative, Evergreen N/A (seedlip, thyme lavender syrup, lemon juice, soda water). It was a nice, light, citrusy beverage. We also shared some appetizers together. We ordered the Oeuf Mimosa (deviled egg, caviar, microgreens), Escargot á la Bourguogne (garlic herb butter, cognac, red wine reduction, puff pastry), Roquette Salade (baby arugula, baby kale, shaved parmesan, toasted pine nuts, lemon vinaigrette, balsamic reduction, cracked pepper), and Gratinèe Soupe à l'Oignon (croute, aged gruyere, chive). The deviled eggs were delicious as expected, which was no surprise, as they are known for them. I would have liked to know that the order only came with 4 egg halves since we had a group of 6. We would've ordered two if we had known, since they're not the easiest things to split. It was also funny to see the table "fighting" over eating every last pine nut on the salad plate. For our entrees, everyone at the table tried to order something different from the menu so we could fully experience it. We were mostly successful, as the only repeat was the Boeuf Bourguignon (braised beef short rib, cipollini onion, wild mushroom, brussels sprout leaves, pomme puree, red wine sauce). The Bourguignon had a nice sweetness to the sauce that balanced the dish's saltiness. I ordered the Saumon et Gruau de Mais (seared salmon, stone ground grits, smoked garlic buttermilk sauce, black lemon, chervil, chili oil). The salmon crust was so flavorful and well seasoned, and the grits were voted the best side by the table for being nice and creamy without being too heavy. Other entrees that were ordered included Truite Meuniere (North Carolina trout, haricot verts, parsnips, chili-almond crunch, brown butter, lemon), Steak Frites (8 oz Brasstown Farms flat iron steak, truffled parmesan pomme frites, beurre de fete), and Steak au Poivre (12 oz pepper crusted NY strip steak, sauce au poivre, pomme puree, brussels sprouts). Both of the steaks were cooked beautifully. Playing musical chairs with each other's food was probably my favorite part of the night. I highly recommend doing this with your friends! Last but certainly not least, we decided to share some desserts to round out the evening. We ordered the Bittersweet Chocolate Pot de Crème (dark chocolate, torched marshmallow meringue, toasted graham crumb, chocolate ganache), Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee (organic Tahitian vanilla bean custard with burnt sugar), and Banana Pain Perdu (croissant bread pudding, caramelized banana, vanilla bean ice cream, banana chips, salted rum caramel). All of the desserts were stunning, and the banana bread pudding was my personal favorite. The rest of the table was fighting over the pot de crème. The Katharine was spectacular and delivered on everything I hoped for in a nice dinner with good friends. I definitely recommend checking it out!

Had dinner and breakfast both here while staying at the hotel for the weekend. Dinner, reservations…read moreare highly recommended. We had dinner reservations at 8:30 our evening there, our host greeted us and seated us within a couple minutes the place was packed. The interior of the restaurant is 1930s art deco, think "Metropolis" and inspired by the original design of the building. The restaurant itself is not very big and gets busy, when full it is also loud. Dinner was very good, the service professional and attentive. The food was good but not exceptional and at the price point, it should be. A dozen oysters on the half shell, were a good start. My entree was good, however very basic in thought and presentation. Trout, nicely cooked with green beans on top, then shaved carrots. Nothing new or original. The Salmon my partner ordered was even simpler in its presentation. Again nothing inventive or original. The food was good but at the price point one expects it to be great. Breakfast, is walk in service, it is as well busy or was on the two mornings we ate there. A different experience overall, more rushed and noisy. The food was okay, but nothing special or beyond ordinary. When breakfast is $30 bucks or more each it needs to be great, this was okay to average. Then with the slow turn around on our order from the kitchen, almost half an hour to get eggs, sort of a let down. The second morning was better as far as timing goes, the food was again okay but nothing special. 3.5 Stars rounded up for the dinner service staff's effort 01132

The staff are the friendliest people in Winston Salem. Luis is a tremendous dude. Aside from his in depth knowledge of the menu, he had excellent recommendations. The small talk was absolutely our pleasure. Luis is a cool guy and wonderful soul. As first timers, we went with the ribeye tacos. Let me tell you, it's a legit ribeye on a taco. It was a fantastic cut of meat and incredibly tender. Luis recommended the habanero salsa. Chef's kiss! It was perfect. Anyway, I loved the place. If you're downtown, check it out.

The atmosphere is lively without being overwhelming, and the bar area is a nice spot to unwind and people-watch. The bartender was attentive and welcoming, which definitely added to the experience. I ordered a mango margarita, which was refreshing and well-balanced and one of the highlights of the visit. I also tried the shrimp and scallops dish served in a pineapple, which was flavorful and fun in presentation, though I did feel the pricing leaned a bit high for what you receive. Overall, it's a solid spot for drinks and a casual night out, especially if you're sitting at the bar. I'd return for the margaritas and the vibe, just with the expectation that it's more of a splurge than an everyday stop.

We sat outside for dinner and had an amazing culinary experience. The heater was on just right, the food was amazing, and the service was great. Responsive but not too pushy. We started with the bread service and it blew us both away. The breads were all so flavorful (and we're a sourdough family). It was on another level. The spreads were fantastic and he even enjoyed an olive tapenade even though he's not an olive guy. For dinner we got steak frites and a fish special that had a crab beurre blanc sauce. Both were fantastic, and we'd order them again in a heartbeat. The price for a great experience like that was totally affordable. We've paid more and received less. So get here and enjoy yourself! Might want to make reservations though if it's a weekend...

These were truly the most flavorful things on the menu and they set this restaurant apart from all others so it's extremely disappointing. The new chef from French Laundry (or so I was told) changed their bruschetta and bruschetta and now it's mostly greasy and has very little balsamic. Their French Onion soup is still delicious with a flavorful broth and nicely melted cheese. It's a very narrow old building so seating on either side is not very comfortable, but we have stayed to hear a set from a jazz band that was enjoyable.
