I went to an event in the Atrium area of this building downtown on 5th street. It takes place every 3rd Thursday of the month its a perfect lead in to enjoying the Downtown Grille afterward. The Atrium event offers a free appetizer from the Downtown Grille, on the same floor, accompanied with wine and beer at an extra charge but well worth it to sip and listen to the changing live music performers, local and out of town. The music is excellent and there is plenty of seating and a few standup tables to place your drink and appetizers. We thoroughly enjoy this series and will return again as we have in the past. At the conclusion of the Atrium event we walked across the lobby and entered the Downtown Grille restaurant. It is smallish with inside and outside dining options. The first time we went here the place was busy because of the lobby event so we sat at the bar, asked for a menu and ordered our drinks. There is a wide variety of creative appetizers and dinner entrees to choose from. We thoroughly enjoyed our appetizers, drinks, atmosphere and quick, friendly service. Took a customer who has religious dietary restrictions to this restaurant. They were fantastic in understanding and directing to proper entrees and sides. The interior is bright and friendly with loads of natural sunlight. It has a large outside seating area as well. The staff is very friendly and ready to help. The food is listed as American fare but it is done with their own twist. I had the Chicken Marsala and it was delicious. My group also had the gnocchi; the ribeye and salmon and there were no leftovers. This is on my restaurant rotation now. read more

Highly recommend the crispy frites. Wow - the best fries I think I've ever had at a restaurant. I also love the fact that they use local vendors as much as possible! You can never go wrong with Bobby Boy Bakeshop goodies. The only downside was the parking and the fact that the restaurant is in a corporate building. We thought we would give The Downtown Grille another chance. Andrew was a good server and the presentation for each dish was great. HOWEVER once again both dishes including the appetizer were so salty we could not finish it as hard as we tried. My husband ordered a 16 ounce filet. Although the steak was tender, it was way too salty. Same with my chicken Marsala. Super tender but way too salty. I tried to eat as much as I could. We don't mind paying for a good meal occasionally but this was disappointing. read more

We went here for our annual Christmas Eve eve dinner with friends and now we've already planned another girls night! Firstly I wasn't expecting the dishes to be as massive as they were. These are definitely shareable plates. Secondly the flavor coming out of these dishes is unmatched. The pork schnitzel with the beer cream sauce is one to remember. Downtown Grille has made it to the list of top 5 best meals I've ever had ! Beautifully decorated I expected it to be a lot bigger but it was perfectly cozy . Everyone was friendly and very helpful. We started with the crab dip . Absolutely amazing . Perfect crunch of breadcrumbs on top accompanied by nice fresh chunks of crab . For dinner we shared lamb chops and the rib eye topped with the bone marrow butter I believe . The meat was velvety and buttery it melts in your mouth. Friend took me to this upscale classic restaurant downtown W-S on West Fifth Street. Plentiful tables with room for large parties. The layout was perfect. Kim was our host who took care of us. I ordered Grill Octopus that was cooked to perfection. My selection for main course was Bone In Rack of Lamb. Loved it! Selection for side dish creamed corn that is one of my favorite choices if have on menu. Service was top notch. Only complaint was for a cocktail wanted a Bloody Mary where they had NO MIX. Why? Ordered another cocktail. Not an inexpensive dinner but one where you visit for a special occasion. Overall we were Pleased with service and food choices. I was too full so skipped dessert. No cocktails, but I was tempted based on the descriptions. I did get a tasty sip of the Dark and Stormy Night. Yowza. Honestly, the best burger I have had in years and I loved all the tasty touches of red onion jam, aioli, and arugula, plus a grilled brioche bun. The frites were crispy and delicious, brushed with herbs and reggiano. So simple, yet so delicious. I look forward to returning and trying the entrees and everything else on menu! read more

We went there to continue our anniversary celebration....booked an early reservation and enjoyed the atmosphere, even prior to the evening crowd showing up. Thomas, our waiter, was very helpful and knowledgeable. My wife got their chicken dish with cream corn and it was pretty good and had lots of flavor. Did have some spice, but it complimented well with the sides. I got the ribeye....thank God they actually seasoned their beef in a proper manner. Full of flavor and the medium cook was perfect. The sauce that came with the beef was very tasty too....almost like a reduced A1 but with no horseradish kick. The beef itself didn't need it since it was seasoned very well. Probably the best ribeye I've had in a restaurant in quite sometime. We got the fries and fingerling potatoes for sides as well and they were just as good. Didn't try any dessert...seems as if they had some seasonal things going on, but we were stuffed from our dinner anyways. All in all we'll be back. Wow just wow! Absolutely loved this place. The quality of the food, the atmosphere and the service was impeccable. This place is fairly new and was as clean as a whistle. The seafood served in our ceviche like dish was to die for and paired perfectly with the other items in the dish. The bread that they serve is also fresh baked and complimented with a maple butter. Just out of this world. The mushroom risotto dish I had was divine. There were several types of mushrooms in it and each one served a purpose and consisted of a rather unique taste. Another great fine dining place in downtown Winston that is good! Been meaning to try this place for awhile....heard mixed reviews but I think they have it together now! Great service , nice atmosphere, great variety on a pretty small menu, huge wine list, this is important! I loved the casual seating at the bar, but the tables were nice white tablecloth type setting. Our sever was awesome, super knowledgeable about the menu and food in general. We got a nice bottle of red wine, and the octopus as an appetizer and the truffle fries. Both of those were excellent, well cooked octopus, not chewy! Loved the the potatoes and sauce on the dish. The cheese on the truffle fries was awesome too! I shared the mushroom bolognese, this comes with house made pasta which was so good, perfectly Al dente. The sauce was so thick and you wouldn't miss the meat if you didn't know, they had the mushroom consistency down really well. The burger and fries another friend had also got the thumbs up, it looked amazing. They source their meats and veggies from local outlets and so you always feel good about that at a restaurant. They also grow some of their herbs on the patio. Which is where I'd like to come back when it's warmer. Our dessert was also delicious. The Baked Jalisco, a spiced brownie with horchata ice cream , nice and cinnamony! With dulce de leche, and a awesome toasted meringue. It looked so good, and tasted chocolaty and a little spicy, but not in the hot way, like cinnamon. Great mix of meringue and cold ice cream, then the smooth brownie. This is a must because it's just different. Hand made squid ink orecchiette, seared shrimp, Calabrian chili and preserved lemon cream, with brown butter panko crumbs, honestly I can't rave enough about this. Our birthday girl opted for the catfish and grits, which she said was creamy, rich, cheesy, again unique. The catfish was a nice different touch. It looked amazing with grape tomatoes and black pearl mushrooms, and winter greens. They gave us a complimentary dessert for her birthday and you can pick anything off the dessert list. She chose the old fashioned bread pudding. With Bobby boys sea salt bun, golden raisins, custard chocolate and whiskey sauce, this was a extremely, rich and decadent dessert. Not what you expect when you hear bread pudding, but again unique, and great marriage of flavor. I loved the whiskey sauce. Our bottle of Prosecco and espresso martinis were also great with our dinner and dessert. I love that everything we've had at the fine dining location is always better than I think it could be. I finally made it to The Downtown Grille and I'm so glad I did. To be honest, when it first opened I looked at the menu and just wasn't intrigued enough to go but I've been hearing some good things so I decided it was finally time to go try it for myself. Located downtown on the first floor of an office building it doesn't sound that exciting but they've done a great job creating some upscale ambiance. It has a nice adult feel and sets the right tone for a great meal. Our server was very good, and it felt like a treat to have great service to match the meal....a rare offering in my opinion. Pictured is the salmon with winter vegetables in a curry pepper coulis and the ahi tuna small plate special. We finished off the meal with the baked Jalisco which was so much better than it looks in the picture. It's a spiced brownie with horchata ice cream, meringue and salted caramel sauce ...so good with all the different elements of a little heat, cinnamon, chocolate and salty sweet finish. Went in during the Black theater festival and even with their closeness to some of the event spots they weren't too busy but had several groups that were in town for the festival. They have several two tops and with the natural lighting it is a very bright and calming restaurant. Our waiter was Tom and he gave great recommendations and descriptions of all the food items and great answers to our questions. We opted for the Thursday special which is a burger, fries, and a beer or glass of wine for $25. The wine options have every wine preference covered with bubbles, sweet, and dry options. The burger was juicy and flavorful. It was seasoned well. I loved the house made pickles and the dressed greens. I've never seen this dish prepared with cheese before, but they graciously re-prepared the dish without cheese for me. The newly prepared chicken Marsala was quite flavorful and tasty, with a healthy portion of pasta, mushrooms, and shallots. The atmosphere is quite nice and modern without being stuffy.
