Please read all negative reviews first, yes this is a new account because my son posted for me using his account and the post was removed. Please note that most of the positive reviews for this dentist are new accounts. Do not go alone to this Dentist and if possible record your interactions. Do not sign anything or give them any banking information unless you have a second opinion (regarding the work that they say you need) and are 100% positive you trust this establishment. I had asked my son to review this business for me but it was flagged and removed because it was a "third-party retelling" of the situation even though I was standing right next to him giving him all the details. But here it goes under my own account, using the same email address that The Downey Dentist has on file for me. Original post: This dentist's office is the definition of (shady business practices). I just went in for deep cleaning (which I didn't even get) and they wouldn't let me leave until I signed for a 10,000 loan for what I later learned, through my regular dentist, was unnecessary work. When I got home I immediately called and told The Downey Dentist that I was not going to get any work done with them and to cancel any further appointments. When I called they told me that the loan (that had not been finalized yet) was "non-refundable" although I never received any treatment. I have been in contact with consumer affairs since then and I already reported them to the Better Business Bureau. Now I'm going to spend some time on review sites sharing my honest opinions. BTW who is Arielle "RelsReviews" P., the elite yelper that gave this dentist 5 stars, really over 60% of her nickname is Reviews, I wouldn't be surprised if she is a professional yelper. Most of the other reviews for The Downey Dentist have less than 5 reviews on their account. Do your self a favor and stay away from The Downey Dentist and their Shady Business Practises :( Update: After my original post, I called ScratchPay (the credit financing company that The Downey Dentist works with) and they told me that if there was no activity on my account by May 29th the credit would be closed out and I would owe nothing. Come to find out The Downey Dentist finalized the credit and got paid on May 17th. When I called ScratchPay They had their investigation team call The Downey Dentist and the investigation team was told that the $2500 was used to buy the supposed implants for my treatment. What!!! what Implants? I never even got the deep cleaning I had originally gone in for. when did they ever do any molds oy take any measurements, the last time I had said that they were shady, now my opinion of them is far worse. ScratchPay is (in my opinion) complicit because I kept them informed every step of the way, and they did nothing to stop The Downey Dentist from finalizing and receiving payment of the loan, also Yelp is (in my opinion, obviously) on their side by deleting a true and honest post that my son posted on my behalf using his account while allowing what I assume to be incentivized posts to remain. Sonia is amazing. She is very helpful and very attentive to the patients. You go in she has a beautiful bright smile and acknowledges everyone. She made my sons experience so smooth. I went into the office on 8/17/22 at 9:30am I had an appointment for a consultation for my son. My son came in with so much pain, he was crying and I was overwhelmed. She asked me what was wrong I told her he had a really bad tooth ache. She said don't worry we will do something for him, it's ok. My son and myself moved here to CA from another state on 8/2/22. Therefore my insurance information hadn't transferred yet. She was really worried for me that I didn't have the funds to get this extraction that needed to be done. I told her I had another appointment to get his physical, I explained to her that this medical location, I was told they have a program I can sign up for Medi-Cal and have it right away it was just bad timing because I had the consultation before the Physical Exam. Sonia said go right away go sooner then your appointment fill it out once you get it call me back and we can see if we can accept it. I called her I gave her the ID number and she said yes come in right away. I went in she attended us so fast before we knew it we went home and he had finally caught up on his sleep from being so restless from nights before. Sonia made our experience that much more amazing. Next day 8/18/22 I called the office because my son woke up with pain, I wanted to go in and have him checked out. Jennifer answered she was starting to help me then she said she would call me back (I understand things come up and employees get pulled in all directions) over 1 hr and 1/2 goes by and no call mind you my son is still in pain. My goal was to get a visit in again to reassure he is ok by getting him looked at or to find out if there is a bigger problem. I called back to see if there was an answer for me if we could go in Sonia answered and I explained to her what happened she got a time for us right away. 2:30 we go in and again very helpful and made us feel very welcomed. If your overwhelmed, shy or unsure on what to say or how to question look for Sonia she is very helpful. read more

I'm leaving this review on behalf of my father because his English is not the best. He has been raving about this place since he first started his dental work 3 weeks ago. Since then I have found him speaking to my neighbors, my uncles, siblings and just about anyone that he came across lol. It just made sense to share his feedback with anyone that cares, especially on here. Again, I am speaking through him and will be posting my own spectate review later this week. Yes he convinced me too lol. My dad had not seen a dentist in over 20 years. We all knew he needed work didn't expect that all his teeth had to be removed. We went to other dental offices for second opinions and were very discouraged because of the price. To make things even worse my dad didn't want anything removable. To be honest I stopped going with him to consults. I just felt frustrated at how overwhelming everything was. He wasn't too happy about it either. We got a flyer at our house that we ignored for weeks that I pointed it out. I figured one more consult won't hurt. And this one was free! My dad tells me everyone was extremely welcoming and spoke Spanish which is a huge for him. They made him coffee and even offered him a donut. Which I think was very cute! He says you forget your at a dental office when you are there. He confused the assistant that took his x-rays for the doctor because she was very smart and knowledgeable. When he finally met the Dr. he says that her words seemed so direct and her explanation made sense. His teeth still have to be pulled but the decision making for him was so natural. He got on a payment plan and although he is investing alot of money his treatment will be long done before he is even done paying it off which is a relief for us. They already started pulling his back teeth. The recovery process is taking time but I've heard them call him to check up and that makes him feel special. Amazing staff, the nurses are great and the receptionist team is amazing! On the other hand Dr. Joe isn't so great. During the entire process he has been nothing but unprofessional. He would never tell me what he was doing during my appointments or tell me what to look forward to next. He would do his work and send me on the way, leaving me in the dark. I would ask questions and he would reply to me as if I was stupid and should have known the answers already. Not only did he talk to me like that but I've heard him speak down to the nurses the same way. One of the screws before I had the actual tooth, fell out of my mouth. I was never told that was a possibility and when I returned and asked about it, he said "sometimes even new cars have loose screws". The day I actually received the tooth was horrible. He quickly put it in and gave me the mirror and asked how it looked. At the time I was unhappy because he left space in the corner. He never told me there was a chance of space being left. He tells me he'll try to get the lab to fix it. He also mentions "this is better than having a hole there" which shouldn't be a doctor's mindset when trying to give their patient a perfect smile. However, being sick of his lack of competence and work ethic I decided to just leave. I left to get this awful experience over and done with. As i'm looking at my teeth when I finally got home I noticed the implant was crooked. You can clearly see he just shoved the implant in and called it a day. Now I'm stuck with an awful crooked implant. Just a warning During one of my visits, the receptionists insisted on me leaving a review on google for them. Felt cornered but I did it anyway because the whole front desk team has been absolutely amazing from the start. My visit to this dentist started almost about a year ago now. I was recommended by a good friend of mine as I had been jumping from different dentist locations trying to find the fit for my situation. As a kid, I suffered from porous teeth, and was now looking for a a better smile. The introduction process was quick and straight to the point. I was going to need extensive work as I had old silver fillings and many sensitive teeth. After x-rays I was given a full breakdown of what the plan moving forward would be. They were very knowledgeable, professional and helpful. The dentists, pinpointed every detail and every possible scenario that would take place during the process. After sitting down with two of their most experienced receptionist/organizers **Angelica and Sonia** they proceeded to brake down the payment arrangement and also help me find additional financial help with care credit. The plan was in place and up to this day they have almost fully reconstructed my smile. My level of confidence Throughout my professional career has improved majorly! I don't hide my smile anymore at meetings with some of my biggest clients. Today I had an appointment to get my molar crowns installed. I still have more work left to be done, and I look forward to seeing them again in a week. I am truly satisfied and excited to finally be able to eat my favorite meals! I honestly always look forward to visiting their location in Downey, CA as they always make me feel welcome. I would like to tell you about the best dental experience that I have had in my 34 years of going to the dentist! With all the things going on with the covid -19 ,I did not know what to expect when I finally got to go to the dentist again. The staff at The Downey Dentist office was very much concerned about the well being of me and my family, when I arrived at the office. I felt very safe being in there care, while in the office. I also had a very new awesome procedure that I didn't even know about till I got in the chair to have a old filling repaired by Dr Bui that I had years ago. They told me about a laser that they could use, that they would not have give me a shot( the worst thing about going to the dentist! ), I said let's try it. Talk about painless, absolutely no pain what so ever, I could not believe it. Left the office without one side of my face being numb for a hour or two,was absolutely the best thing. I would recommend this procedure if you have a chance. It was the best experience I have had at the dentist ever! Dr. Mancini, Sonia, Angelica,Tosha And the rest of the staff are amazing. I needed a root canal done ASAP and they helped me out since the minute I walked in. Having a phobia of the dentist my whole life, I've avoided seeing the dentist in such a long time. The staff there helped me out since day 1. I have a whole treatment plan and scheduled appointments for the next 3 weeks. This is awesome as I can plan ahead of time. They also have in house specialists so you don't have to go to an offsite location to get certain services done! Special thanks to the Receptionist and office staff that greet me with a smile every time I walk in the door. That and their amazing personalities make anyone feel welcomed! My daughter was a first time patient today at Downey Dental, she is normally very anxious about going to the dentist but the entire staff was very friendly, comforting and professional. Took the time to explain in detail procedures needed while answering all my daughters questions and concerns. Just had my first visit last month. free x-rays and dental exam. A great one stop shop for anything that you might need from basic hygiene care two root canal's ,crowns ,even tooth implants. There are three or four dentists all specializing in different areas. All very transparent in communicating what will be done on your visit before the work actually starts. The pricing for all these procedures are very affordable and competitive. The front desk is very attentive to the patients appointment times. Ask for Zonia she experienced and very knowledgeable. she makes all patients feel welcomed. They all are definitely a great team together and really deserve a five star rating. read more

From the front desk to the dental chair, this was the most pleasant, positive experience I have ever had. The dentist was very caring, and astute, and I felt he was completely honest in his recommendations. I had gone to him because a dentist has said I need a tooth pulled and an implant. It would have cost me about $5,000 at their office, EVEN WITH MY DENTAL INSURANCE. The "Downey" Dentist would have done the procedure for half that!!!! But, Dr. Mancini, explained exactly why I didn't need that procedure at this time. He saved me thousands of dollars (and misery!). I have finally found a dentist I can trust. The office was clean, organized, and made me feel comfortable right away.
