Avoid at all costs. They are the most expensive dog watching location by far (well over $50 a day), and despite this are not safe. My dog was attacked by another dog during her 4 days stay, sustaining bite marks on her eye and paw, then we we're lied to about the severity (they had to carry her to the car). They have refused to return our calls since the incident, I have left 2 messages and called 4 times in the last week without any response. If you care about your pet, go somewhere else. read more

I was in need of some dog food and my regular place was closed. I Googled the dog food company and found out that Dog Stop carried the food. I headed over there as they are close. I pulled up and there was a group of people hanging out outside which I did not give much thought. I walked in and the place was empty. There was no one to be seen at all. I saw the brand food but they keep it behind the counter where customers can not go????. I waited about 10 minutes and finally a man and a woman walked in from outside. The man stayed on my side of the counter and the woman heads behind. She walked right by me and went in to the back room. Totally ignored me and went into back. The woman came out about 10 minutes later. By that time I was fuming mad having to wait 20 minutes almost. Finally when the woman came back she came up and asked what. What????? how about hello how can I help you today. Super pore customer service. I said I was intrested in the signature dog food in a 14 pound bag. She only had a few bags left and they where the bigger size. She said she did not even have an order in yet??? I said thanks anyway and left. I would never go here again. They had my last review reported which was a joke and proves they are hiding something. Here is the deal: We had our dog stay at this location twice in less than a year. Both times our dog came home with an infection. She had explosive diarrhea and was in bad shape. I called them after the 2nd time and no response. Obviously this place is dirty and needs investigated. Basically we've endured up to 5000 dollars in vet bills and highly advise to avoid this place. Update as of June 19th- The DogStop said in their response that they knew our dog was sick. They never told us. Also the "Hate speech" must be a lose term when I said the staff has an unkept nature. Well, I would generally not leave this type of review, but given how upset my wife is and how bad they butchered my dog, I have to do it. This was our second grooming appointment, they cut our shih-poo wrong the first time (fairly minor issues compared to today), but thought we would give it another shot. This time, they flat out butchered our dog. Took his coat down to an inch from about 6 inches. See the pics for a before and after, absolutely ridiculous. My wife provided crystal clear instructions. We haven't used their training or doggy day care, so can't comment on those services, but I would stay away from grooming if you want something particular. read more

Update- the owner said they called a woman and asked if they could shave my dog- there is no woman- I'm single it's just me at that number on file. TOTAL BULLSHIT LIES. you shave my collie and didn't ask or call anyone. And then make up some bs. WOW. and never had the balls to call me even today or respond to my emails. Nice service. They are a bunch liars and frauds, the pictures you see is not what it actually is, the dogs are not even allowed to play with toys and no one their trains or disiplines the dogs because they say it will hurt the dogs feelings, they get shoved into a room and forgotten about. Our German Shepherd has had two stays at the dog stop. The first stay about when he was about 8 months old. No problems. We just picked him up today (7/8/23), and my dog could barely bark. It was basically a squeak that came out. Since the pup cams were down the entire time he was there, I could not see him. I dont know how long it takes to fix their camera system, but for us, it was 6 days that we did not see him. I texted The Dog Stop, inquiring about why my dog could not bark, and they said they didn't know. My thinking is that he was kept in his cage all day barking, but per The Dog Stop, that was not correct, and again, since the pup cams were down, I don't know what was going on. He was groomed right before we picked him up. Did something happen there? He's a big dog, and I'm wondering if they had something tied around his neck too tight to cause the trauma to his vocal cords. I will never take him there again!!! I have been boarding my fur child Jake here for about 2 years. My husband and I travel a lot and this my my go to place for long weekends. I personally love the cameras because I can check in from time to time. Jake is a rescue and has separation anxiety so the day care aspect where he is with other dogs and a room attendant is helpful in making his stay a little easier on him. Dropped off both our dogs today to be groomed today and we wanted to speak with the groomer regarding our puppy who was being groomed for the first time. The groomer was late so we never spoke with them and instead spoke to the manager and left specific instructions as to how we wanted him cut. His hair was 5-6 inches long and we wanted 1-2 removed - we were very specific about this and the manager said that she would be sure to tell the groomer what we wanted. We picked him up and was shackled to see that they had shaved our pup and took 4-5 inches off the dog which has left him looking like nothing we asked for. The manager was apologetic but didn't offer any assistance in fixing the problem. Such terrible customer service is unacceptable especially these days. Groomer was late and then ruined our puppies hair, with so many other options in the city and given what they charge I expected so much more read more

Had an appointment for 4/4/2020 when two days before hand, i got an email saying they were no longer doing services on the weekend. No problem. However they couldnt even call me to reschedule. I had to call twice to reschedule myself. That appointment was supposed to be today, 4/10 at noon. My review is only based on my training experience as I have not used any other services here. We have brought our pup to two different one-on-one training sessions here and it has been absolutely worth every penny. Brett Reynolds is the trainer and I would recommend him to anyone that wants to modify their dog's behavior! We adopted a Min-Pin Terrier mix puppy at about 7 months old. He was social at the dog park and was very friendly with people whether at our house or elsewhere. Around 10 months, we began seeing some different behaviors in our little pup, especially when on leash around other dogs or when there was a fence between him and other dogs or people. It got to the point where we were no longer comfortable taking him out as regularly and stopped going to the dog park. We have since learned that our little baby suffers from something called "barrier aggression." I explained the situation to Brett through a phone conversation and a few follow-up emails. When we arrived for our session, we talked through specifically what we wanted to work on and then got started. I learned so much in an hour! It was not only helpful in modifying my dog's behavior, but also in giving us the confidence in training him properly. We purchased a Gentle-Leader collar which has worked great for us. We also learned certain commands to direct and distract him around other dogs, which avoids him escalating into a blind rage where it is very difficult to calm him down. At the end of the session, Brett brought another dog into the room and we were able to try out the new commands while we still had him there to give us feedback. We have continued everything we've learned in the two sessions during our time at home and have noticed a significant change in our dog's behavior. He's not perfect by any means, but seeing the progress he's made is motivation for us to remain consistent and follow-through with everything we learned from Brett. I look forward to more training sessions and possibly trying an agility class in the future! read more

Used to board our rescue dog here. They are the best. Other places have interview processes or just don't accept dogs that they think will be difficult. Our dog was one of those seemingly difficult dogs. The first time it didn't work out and they had to crate her. But they didn't give up on her. The next time we took her we were surprised to learn that she didn't need to be crated. The staff are very perceptive and were able to find the right mix of dogs and dog temperaments so that our anxious anti social rescue could join in one of the group rooms during the day. We were thrilled to be able to watch her on the webcam in the chill dog group. I highly recommend this place. read more

We used to love taking our dog here. His tail would always be wagging getting out of the car, and he would run inside to see all his friends here. So when we needed somewhere to board him for two weeks (with about a month in between boarding sessions), we didn't even hesitate to call the dog stop! The first week we boarded him, I got a call the day before picking him up saying that he is covered in cuts and scabs from "before we dropped him off". We understand that dogs play and get cuts, but when there were at least two dozens cuts all over his body, we became concerned. This was just chalked up to him playing with some "energetic puppies". The second time we picked him up (roughly a week ago), we noticed that he was coughing a lot. The next day, he began coughing mucus up. The day after, throwing up. After taking him to the vet, getting two different types of pills, AND monitoring his coughing to make sure he doesn't get pneumonia, we realized that a place we once loved is never getting our business ever again. Such a shame, reasonable prices for boarding and everything, but not worth paying to get your dog healthy afterwards. Heads up, too: on their puppy cams, you can see them letting dogs fight and even hump each other, while nothing is done to stop it. read more

I cannot begin to express my gratitude to all the staff at this location for taking such good care of our dog Tank!! We have used different facilities for Tank from private locations to "franchise" locations and this place is hands down by far the best!! Tank can be a fussy dog; he's a grazer and isn't neutered so he's not allowed play time when being boarded but the staff gives him extra attention and has one on one play time with him to insure he's not forgotten!! He gets so excited to go to "camp" as we call it! He actually eats his food when he is there for a few days ( we've had problems in the past with him not eating while at a facility for a stay) which makes us quite happy as it appears he's enjoying himself!! They are his family away from his family!! They trim his nails every time he leaves and the do such a fantastic job and it's cheaper than taking him to the vet! They pay attention to the instructions I leave which tbh isn't much!! The place is always so clean and although it does smell a little "doggie" in the wait area it's by no means a "pig farm" fast check in and fast check out and a super awesome app that has basically everything at your finger tips!! We love this place and have told others about how well they care for Tank while we are away and I literally do not have to worry about Tank while we are away!! I have stopped here maybe 10 times to buy food and supplies. The staff is nice, store is pretty well stocked, BUT - this place stinks to hell and back!! I've owned animals all of my life, I've worked in shelters, I've worked at farms (think cows, pigs, in barns). This is far and away the worst smell I've experienced in regards to keeping animals. I earned a discount towards grooming or boarding from purchases - NO WAY would I bring my dogs in here. I can barely keep my lunch down just paying at the register. I'm a resident of the cork factory and the dog stop has been highly recommended by all the residents that I've met whom own pets. The prices are reasonable and it's great exercise for your dog. That was not the experience we had when we took our dog to be groomed. Last week we took our dog to get a summer haircut and they made his fur into a mess. It was pretty obvious the minute we picked him up that they did a poor job. It was very uneven in noticeable areas around his neck area and legs. It's like they buzzed one side and completely missed on the others. It's just fur and the price was right, no harm done it will grow back. BUUUUT several days after the haircut my dog developed kennel cough. Not only did my poor dog get a bad haircut he also developed a serious cough. Now we sacrificed the price of a cheap haircut for a sick dog and an expensive vet bill. NOT WORTH IT! This was the first and last time we will be taking our dog there. read more

Very friendly staff, great prices. The reason I'm giving a lower rating is that our dog came back covered in urine from head to toe. The white parts of his coat were yellow and he smelled awful. No exaggeration when i say head to toe smelled of urine. We have kept him in many other kennels before and even ones that have many dogs running free in a smaller indoor area but have never had him come back like this. we never went inside to check out the facility so not sure the reason for this, whether its a cleanliness issue or just an unlucky onetime thing. The people here are what makes this a great facility. My dogs run to the door and every time I walk in they know their names and are happy to see them. When I pick them up, they are exhausted but happy. I've used their trainer, Brent, and he is fabulous. The best compliment I can give him is that he is realistic and gives you baby assignments that you are able to accomplish, rather than 57 exercises that you are never going to do. My dog and I are much better creatures after working with him. Lastly, I highly recommend their pet sitting services. Rhianna and Samantha are extremely reliable and wonderful caregivers. Give any of the Dog Stop's services a try and you'll be pleased. read more

We just moved away from Pittsburgh, and we miss the Dog Stop! When we lived in the Strip, we were so lucky to have The Dog Stop in our neighborhood. We used the Dog Stop for Doggy Daycare, boarding and grooming and they did an excellent job with all three. We trusted them on multiple trips to take care of our fur baby (and he had a great time/ he would pull on his leash to go back in even after being boarded). The groomer was our favorite in the seven years we've been grooming our dog. Really nice people, clean place and you can feel at ease when they are taking care of your dog. read more

I had an 11am appointment and was there a bit early, an hr and 15 min later or so i got a call that they were ready. They both looked awesome and smelled so so good! Our German Shepherd loves coming to the Dog Stop Strip District for daycare! They provide a safe and caring environment for the dogs. It gives me peace of mind knowing that she is not home alone all day. She is having the chance to socialize with other dogs and burn off extra energy. In fact, she usually comes home, eats dinner, then falls right asleep! The staff members are all awesome - they knew her by name by the second time we came to daycare! She's a bit shy at first, so their enthusiasm really helps her warm up to the environment. Another bonus is the "ReTail" rewards program - every $120 spent earns us a free day of daycare! I've taken my westie for a few private lessons with Brett Reynolds. He was recommended by a friend. He's amazing and really has a way of working with dogs. He immediately gets their respect and attention. I had previously taken my dog to a puppy class, and we got nowhere. I did the private lessons to try to work on some issues we were having. What he helped accomplish in a few sessions was very impressive. Of course, I needed retrained with some things as well. We'll hopefully be starting some group classes. The only reason for the 4 star is the facility itself. The review for Brett is 5 stars ++. There's no good waiting area for classes and the smell when you walk in isn't pleasant. At times, I didn't feel my dog was necessarily safe. We had to wait where all the other dogs exited. Not all of them appeared friendly and there really wasn't anywhere else to stand or sit. It would be great if there was a separate entrance for the training classes. That's the only recommendation I have because Brett is the best trainer I've had the pleasure of using. read more

I've been taking my pup here for about 2 months and am slowly tapering off. My dog loves it - he gets excited going there and I know he is socializing with other dogs, which he LOVES. I do like that this place is kind of a one-stop shop, I can take him there for daycare, grooming (they do an OK job, but nothing spectacular), food needs, etc. BUT, it shouldn't take me waiting for 15-20 minutes to pick up my dog. Stop up-selling products, or hire someone specifically to do that, so the rest of us dog parents can grab our fur kids and head home. Additionally, I've been there for 2 months, my dog is well known, yet the staff at the front desk can't ever seem to remember who I am, which drives me nuts since it's not like I was going intermittently. It's a customer service issue that when you are paying X number of dollars to entrust these people with your dog and they see you a number of times throughout the week, they should at minimum make the attempt to recognize you. And finally, at previous doggy day cares/groomers they had a system that allowed the groomers to see exactly what style they did to the dog previously and also included notes on things like "take him on a walk at 3P per the request of dog mom", they don't do that at Dog Stop and they really should. I was going on a 6 hour road trip with my pup on a Friday night and left my dog with Dog Stop to wear him out for the day, requested a walk for him at 4P so we could just head out.They didn't walk him and the front desk wasn't really great about how they responded, it felt like a "oh well, sorry about that" when there was a real inconvenience; they compensated by offering him a free walk next time. But, it cost me 30 minutes of my road trip when I was trying to beat rush hour and he wasn't as exhausted as I had hoped going in to drop him off for the day. Overall, I love that my dog loves going here, but I hate that I'm paying such high cost for poor customer service. read more

My wife and I have been Dog Stop customers since its inception in the east end. After we moved to the suburbs we started regularly utilizing the Dog Stop in the strip district for daycare and boarding for our 2 dogs and I can't say enough about the place. The staff is polite and knowledgeable and you can tell they genuinely care about dogs. Our dogs get excited to go and after a stay our dogs are exhausted so I know they got attention and the opportunity to play. I highly recommend the Dog Stop east end, strip or south hills and while I can't speak for the other properties because we haven't taken our dogs there based on what I have seen at 3 of their properties I'm sure the others are exceptional as well. read more

I will NEVER use the Dog Stop to board my dog again. I took my dog there this weekend for the first time. Thankfully, she only stayed for one night. They do not have any sort of outdoor area, and do not even attempt to take your dog for a bathroom break. They close at 4pm on Saturday and Sunday, so if you take your dog there on a weekend they are alone in a crate from 4pm until 10am the next day - WITH NO BATHROOM BREAKS. Also, when I showed my concern, they told me that the dogs smell where other dogs go to the bathroom, so they will just go. Oh, that's comforting - so my dog is in an unclean crate that smells like dog pee? Then, when she was picked up the next morning it was obvious that she did not go to the bathroom for the entire 24 hours that she was there because she got sick as soon as we got outside. This is inhumane, and not a place where I feel comfortable keeping my dog overnight. read more

I always took my Yorkie there for the last year and half. For the 1st few times, they seemed to be ok and the staff was always friendly. Then over the last 7 or 8 months, the quality of grooming went down hill. My little guy was always shaved or not cut enough or uneven. I did try and give them a few chances. I decided to give them one last chance, because they are always good with scheduling and I needed to get him in. BIG Mistake! I went to pick him up, the groomer came out with my baby wrapped in a towel and said that she just sliced his arm and that I needed to get him to the vet for stitches ASAP. "Go.. Go!" she said. As she handed me my baby and his blood was streaming down my arm, I flew out and rushed him to the ER. He had to get stables and on pain meds and antibiotics for the next 10 days. Then the groomer said "well that doesn't sound to bad." The Banksville location is no better. I tried that one twice and I feel bad for ALL those dogs thrown into on room, with one caretaker. They always seem to overcharge me also. When I tell them, they do change it. read more

Took in my Golden Doodle to get groomed. When I came back after work to grab him, I did not believe that the dog being returned to me was mine. The woman shaved half of his body and tail. Left all of the fur on his head, belly, legs, and the end of his tail. Her excuse was that his hair was too matted, and that he had been getting too overwhelmed by her cutting it so he was throwing up and pooping on her table. Mam, your job is to cut my dogs hair. Not only did she half-ass his hair cut (which is so embarrassing that I refuse to take him out in public), but she also charged me $85! My dog is now suffering from PTSD because she was so careless with him. He is not the same dog. Barks and cries all day and night, rubs on furniture awkwardly, even uses the house as his bathroom now. Their advice to me was to "buy him a t shirt because he feels naked." I also had to spend another $50 taking him to the vet and getting him prescribed to a medication for his stress levels. Their "groomer" is a careless butcher, and should not receive your service. read more
