We boarded our 2 year old Chocolate Labrador Retriever at the Dog Barn. It seemed like a an awesome Kennel based on FB information. We dropped him off on Friday afternoon with a Monday morning 7:00 am scheduled pickup time. At 6:44 am Monday Morning we received a call from Kari that our dog had slipped his collar and ran away. This is day 20 and he is still missing. If you read this post please help me find my dog.

Bea, Bob and Stella. My babies.

From what I'm hearing & reading from others that have boarded their dogs here, they mysteriously "go missing".

**Health & Welfare Concerns as well as lack of organization and accountability**…read more During my dog's recent 4-day stay, multiple serious issues emerged: **Health & Welfare Concerns:** When I picked up my dog, it was immediately apparent she had not been given adequate access to water. Her oral mucosa was extremely dried out--a clear sign of dehydration. This is a basic care requirement for any boarding facility. They also did not give her medications correctly, giving them at the incorrect time of day which can cause adverse health outcomes. **Lack of Organization & Accountability:** When I arrived for pickup, the staff didn't know where my dog was. She was described as being "somewhere in the groom area on the second floor." Despite having her grooming started at 11 AM, at 5:30 PM when I arrived, there was no clear tracking of her location or status. More troubling: she was supposed to return to daycare, which was explicitly included in the premium boarding package I paid for. **Hidden Fees & Price Gouging:** Beyond the already expensive room rate, Red Dog charges for everything, including bagging food but not returning the individual food containers your drop off, while refusing to provide any transparency about what actually happens behind closed doors. You pay premium prices for services you can't verify are being delivered. **Unsubstantiated & Inappropriate Allegations:** Most concerning: Red Dog claimed my dog, who is a certified therapy dog with extensive professional experience in hospitals and clinical settings, tried to bite someone during grooming. This allegation contradicts her entire behavioral history and working credentials. As well as impeccable boarding, grooming and daycare experiences at other facilities. Red Dog Boarding demonstrates poor animal care standards, organizational chaos, aggressive pricing practices, and a troubling lack of accountability.

She let us know about nap time and was willing to accommodate anything he needed if he was not able to rest independently. (He did great and Michelle was on top of his need the first day). The owner is very responsive to any questions or concerns you have. Her staff love the dogs and your furry friend gets a big hello upon arrival. Our pup comes home happy but tired and ready for cuddles and rest. Also, the packages they offer are extremely fair and worth it. Thank you Happy Dog!

I…read moreinteracted with a young woman who was absolutely lovely to talk to, very kind and clearly cares a lot about the dogs. At the end of the stay, my dog came home exhausted and happy, and I got to see some awesome pictures of his stay. The second time I brought my dog here a few months later, I was met by Michelle, the owner (she hadn't been there the first time when I dropped off, or during the temperament test). I will admit that I made a couple of mistakes here -- I was 15 minutes later than my anticipated drop-off time (but still within the drop-off window), and while I had seen an email from her when I booked my reservation, I missed the line at the bottom of the email with the link for my confirmation, and so I missed the info that was included through that link about how to prepare his food. This is entirely my mistake, I dropped the ball there by being distracted so I missed some important information that I should've known in advance. However, when I arrived with my dog, Michelle was clearly very irritated with me from the get-go. I apologized for being late, and tried to hand her my dog's food (I had put his meals in individual ziplock bags trying to make it easier, and put these inside a plastic container with his name and instructions written on it). Michelle scolded me for bringing a container and said she couldn't accept it; she took the ziplocks out and then scolded me for not writing his name on each bag, for separating out his food when they could have done it, for "bringing rawhide treats" even when I clarified that they were completely rawhide-free (she still refused to take them), for bringing his daily medication in his pill bottle (I had used an old pill bottle of his so it would have his name and dose on it, but she kept telling me she "couldn't be responsible for getting it back to me" even though I told her that was perfectly fine), etc etc. No matter how many times I tried to apologize and own up to my novice mistakes, she just kept circling and circling with her complaints. Now, I'll admit that I'm pretty sensitive and anxiously attached to my dog, and I was so shocked that I began to tear up as she continued to scold me (this feels so strange to write as a grown woman!). Michelle either didn't take a breath to notice or else just didn't care. I completely and wholeheartedly understand that she is running a serious business here, and takes the health and safety of our dogs very seriously which is why she has these rules. I am GLAD they have these rules. However, after I apologized the first 10-15 times and told her I understood, that I hadn't been told any of this the first time my dog boarded there so I didn't realize; I would expect her to ease up. I myself work as a manager at a preschool center, so a somewhat similar field, and I cannot IMAGINE ever talking to a parent/client the way she spoke to me. After she took my dog from me mid-scolding and left me standing at the door shocked and without getting to say goodbye before my first real time being away from my dog, I ended up sitting in my car for another 10 minutes just trying to compose myself. To top it off, my boyfriend was the one picking my dog up the next afternoon; he was coming directly from working in NYC, and was worried about traffic, so around 4:45 he called on his way to let her know his ETA was 5:45 but wanted to let her know JUST in case traffic pushed it past 6:00; Michelle told him firmly "You can get here anytime between 5 and 6." This feels like a pretty rude reaction to someone who is calling you well in advance as a precaution. In the end he did arrive around 5:45, but was reprimanded for not having our dog's leash (since he was coming from out of state, I'd think it's pretty obvious why that happened, but thankfully our dog is small enough to be carried). Happy Dog Pet Resort is excellent with dogs. The other staff that I met were friendly, kind, and compassionate. My dog was very happy there. Unfortunately, it's the owner Michelle that completely soured the experience for me and has left me looking for a new daycare center. I can't justify leaving my favorite being on the planet again with someone that could be so cold and compassionless.

As someone who once worked at a boarding facility, I keep realistic expectations about how much special attention my dogs are going to get. It is very demanding physical work, especially when they are at capacity. If my dog was seriously incapacitated or needed life-saving meds, I would find a different facility that caters to that. We had Max in their daycare program, which he loved, but after a few visits, he was asked not to come back because he was "leaning" on the staff. He's 150-lbs, and leaning is his love language. Since that's 50-lbs more than the average employee there, I totally get it.

The woman at the front desk at pickup (who I believe was the owner) was rude, barely spoke to me other than taking my credit card, and had no reasonable explanation for how my dog got injured - while she stated my older dog nipped at her, the vet told us that it was not consistent with a bite wound after he examined her. My dogs came home smelling so horrible and were so dirty that we had to bathe them before we could give them the cuddles that they clearly had been lacking for their entire stay. Sendaishi's website says they give dogs love and affection during their stay, but ours couldn't stop shaking and clinging to us when we got them back. They also drank what had to be a gallon of water each as soon as we got them into the house. Luckily, we have pet insurance to cover most of the cost of the urgent vet trip, her pain medication, and antibiotics and she's starting to put weight on her injured leg after a few days. Save yourself the trouble, cost, and heartbreak and don't bring your loved fur babies here.

We searched the internet and found Top Dog Pet Sitting Service! This company were not only very responsive, including the owner, but they did an outstanding job in reassuring us that our puppy was in great hands! We started by making an account and profile on Chloe and it was so easy and user friendly! We then chose our time of day we wanted them to come and our preferences of how many times and how long we wanted the pet sitter to stay. When everything was booked, we met Cassandra and Alisha and Chloe loved them RIGHT away! That was something my husband and I really liked, is that the sitters who would be watching her, met her prior to us going away. All of this happened in a span of 2 weeks since our original plans of who would watch Chloe fell through. During the trip, Cassandra and Alisha were AMAZING! We received email updates with pictures after every bedtime visit (we chose 3 visits a day with just one update but you can customize to however you want!). Those pictures and updates are what got us through the week! It was great because the girls not only cleaned up fuzz and animal pieces from her toys, but also helped clean the containers that had her food in them. During that week, Chloe was on a special diet of chicken and rice as well as medicine and a powder probiotic. the girls did WONDERFUL with managing that entire situation. Jessica, the owner was also beyond amazing for getting back to us so quickly when it was the day before we left for our vacation and she had to be put on all of this medicine and special diet. This company was amazing and we will most definitely be using them again in the future and going to be requesting the same 2 girls since Chloe loved them so much! I cannot recommend this company enough for all of your dog sitting and pet needs!!! :)
