We had flown over from Vermont where we run a small award winning inn, and were looking for a place…read moreon a Saturday afternoon to read the papers, drink some beer and soak up everything the US doesn't do with drinking places! I grew up around High Wycombe and used to frequent the Old Crown in Skirmett...sadly now a private house. Despite living in Shepherds Bush at the time...the Old Crown and the wonderful grumpy Peter (the landlord) was my real local. He could abuse one with style...and still serve an excellent pint of Breakspears, and his long suffering wife Liz, was a marvel in the kitchen. So we'd stopped in the overblown Hand & Flowers in Marlow that couldn't or wouldn't serve us a pint at 12.15...come back at 14.45 was their suggestion, and as it was full of BMW driving Buckinghamshire hedge fund types and their loud kids...we voted with our feet and left to find somewhere else. I then remembered reading about how the Stag & Huntsman had been given a make over...and my lord does it work! The place still has individual rooms to drink in, for food our two bowls of roast tomato soup hit the spot and the beer was excellent. I must also commend the staff in particular a young lady (Claire?) who was very competent, organising the staff, taking phone calls and generally keeping the who place toddling along. Her customer care skills in person or on the phone got a 10/10. We sat, supped and relaxed for a couple of hours reading the Saturday papers, and we left wishing that the US could do pubs.....but it can't! Next time we plan to stay once the bedroom door isssue I read about on TripAdvisor have been fixed.

This glorious country inn goes back 400 years and there are many aspects that contribute towards it…read morebeing the jewel of Berkshire pubs. Here are just three: First of all, its location. Deep in the woods somewhere between Maidenhead and Henley, its sylvan setting is a wonderful place to be in the summer. In the winter, a cosy log fire make it equally attractive. I have taken guests from Germany, the U.S. and Italy there and all have been amazingly impressed. Bubbly ladies serve an excellent pint. As for the food, I quote their website: By mixing traditional fare with some more exotic offerings, dining at the Dew Drop will always satisfy the taste buds. Classic offerings such as Steak and Ale (Brakspears of course) Pie and Home-made Fish Pie made from fresh cod , smoked haddock and king prawns, are complemented by the varying Daily Specials - dishes such as Sweet and Sour Battered Chicken or Wild Mushroom Stroganoff are just some of the temptations on offer. The Dew Drop also has one or two more surprises for those walking the culinary pathway; Thursday evenings see the latest port of call in the Dew Drop's voyage around the world of food, as Thursday is International Cuisine night; and talking of ports, we mustn't forget Dave the Fish, who on Friday brings the best quality freshly caught Cod all the way from Grimsby, so that diners at the Dew Drop can feast on fresh Cod in Brakspear Batter and chips. I don't usually eat fish and chips much these days. Our local chippies are not what they used to be and you usually need 6 Rennies for pudding. But here they do a lovely delicate batter and I am getting addicted. Negative aspects? None really. It's right in the middle of bloody nowhere, so don't expect to 'stumble' across it: instead, see the website for the map. Ramblers use the pub, so it's fine if you ramble. Otherwise, you would need to drive. But not necessarily! They are smart enough to run a shuttle service around the local area for non-ramblers (see also website). I have never heard of a pub in the U.K. doing that, and neither so it seems has Mr. Google. Superb establishment: I'd book at the weekend.

This is a lovely country pub - ideal for ramblers and cyclists! But beware, can be hard to find!…read moreThere are some brown signs once you come off the Henley road - and well worth the hunt! The staff are very friendly, the food is great value with lots of specials which seems to change weekly and they always have some great cask ales which appeals to my better half after afew hours of cycling!

I loved that there is a bread basket waiting for you right when you sit down and they took our drink order immediately so I had my Hendrick & soda with cucumber as I perused the tasty menu. And we got a free side of veggies as a nice healthy surprise. Their menu is seasonal & they have specials so there's sure to be something new every time, which I love. -Duck terrine: Gamey and fantastic. The cranberry relish and toast compliment it perfectly. -Thai fishcake: Probably favorite part of the meal. Incredible spices. -Lemon sole fillets with crab meat and sauce: So many amazing flavors. -Monkfish wrapped in pancetta: Nice but the pancetta overpowered the monkfish, which is such a delicious fish on its own. -Sticky toffee pudding: One of the best I've had! Will definitely be coming back to try new stuff!

The selection of beers is great and the decor of the pub is warm and inviting. The menu is extensive and, when the food actually turns up, the produce is home-cooked and tasty. The pub can get pretty busy and the kitchen really struggles to keep up with the orders. The last time I went on a weekday lunch the (albeit delicious) cod and chips took over an hour to arrive. Not much good when you've got better things to do than see how far you can nurse a pint.

The beers are beautifully kept and the quality of the food has rightly caused the pub to receive numerous awards. Because of it's fame, it's not a cheap place to eat, but you will be impressed by the quality of the ingredients and the finished produce. It can be reached via a circular walk from Henley - if you're feeling fit (about ten mile loop) - and is reached by a lung bursting ascent up the side of a steep valley. If you're in the Maidensgrove area, then this is a must to visit.

This is an old fashioned pub with wooden beams and tables. There is a lovely open fire and the staff and their dog are very friendly and accommodating. There is a lovely cosy warm feel to this place. To the food: tremendous. The Tuscan bean soup was lovely and then the roast chicken with cream, mushrooms and bacon was incredibly tasty. We tried a couple of other dishes for research purposes only, and they were equally good. So pleased to have found an establishment worthy of 5 stars in this area!
