This school is amazing. Both of our kids have been going there for almost a year after transferring from a different daycare. It is amazingly clean and organized. The Doctors Luce Daycare (TDLD) came highly recommended by a close friend of 20 years, whose son had been attending TDLD and it was worth the wait it took us to get off the waitlist. Our twins joined TDLD in 2019: our 3-year long experience with TDLD has met and exceeded our expectations and we were saddened to have left the nurturing environment of TDLD due to my job location change. TDLD offers the best combination of support system needed for working parents: loving teachers, 6:00am to 6:00pm care, onsite kitchen and in-house chefs that prepare gourmet meals 4 times a day, round the year care with closures aligned with Federal Holidays, classroom cameras, daily and weekly feedback through Class Dojo, Go-Home meal service, bilingual English/Japanese medium of instruction and last but not the least the only 5-star QRIS rated child-directed curriculum in the area. If the above is not convincing enough, please allow me to share our story...our twins had GERD due to their premature birth and when we started at TDLD at 15months of age, they suffered from severe reflux and feeding issues. Director Danielle Barth and Teachers Lisa and Becky took this challenge head on and helped our twins outgrow their feeding inhibition with love, patience and perseverance. Our twins went from struggling with bottles to enjoying Chef Daniel's and Chef Nathan's gourmet cooking in no time. We also took advantage of the Go-Home meals to continue the experience at home and it is a boon for families with two working parents. Soon after we joined, the pandemic hit...thanks to TDLD and their dedication not only was there no lapse in care throughout the entire global health crisis but also, they kept the kids safe with no school closures due to outbreaks...Kudos to TDLD management for continuing to support their entire staff throughout the pandemic despite operating with reduced capacity. Loving, nurturing and stimulating environment provided by TDLD has made our twins independent, curious and sociable: we experienced the beauty of this when they were chosen to join Japanese immersion Montessori pre-school (ages 3 to 6) in our new location. Our twins were invited to interview at the Montessori school based on the personalized assessment (collection of work and ASQs) of twins as compiled by TDLD throughout their stay; we are extremely grateful for TDLD teachers and their diligence to document the child's progress from as early as infancy. Our twins' thirst for knowledge and confident well-balanced demeanor as inculcated by TDLD led to them being accepted to join the program after in-person assessment. We had the chance to go back and visit the school after a few months and our twins were so excited to meet all of their teachers (Danielle, Lisa, Becky, Tomoko, Elsa, Lynn, Susan, Aurora, Candy, Katy, Ashley, Cara, Yoko, Simin, Melina, Brennyn, Kim, Rosa, Liz, Brigid, Eigo) and chefs (Danial and Nathan); it was heart-warming to see their interaction with every single teacher at the school... They not only remembered everyone but also had missed them. We cannot thank TDLD enough; they have been our village and helped raise our kids well. I am so grateful to have found The Doctors Luce Daycare. Here are the reasons why: The hours (6-6) The food (breakfast, lunch, two snacks...they even provide organic purees for the babies!) It is Japanese immersion Their pediatrician is in the same building...how convenient is that! All the teachers know all the kids even if they are in different classrooms. This makes transitioning a little easier. They are eager to learn from my youngest son's therapists because they want to create an environment he will thrive in. They have a very robust curriculum. I feel like my boys will have a head start when they start kindergarten. It isn't a cheap daycare but I do feel like they are a great value!!! read more

Was doing a walk thru from out of town, for daycare. Can't say enough about how impressed I was with the facilities & staff. The kids also seemed very comfortable there, and all that I met (age of course) was very talkative. Danielle (Dir for daycare) took so much time that I thought I was derailing her schedule. My child went to school here for about 1.5 years. Overall, it is an OK daycare and a bad preschool. THE GOOD: Most importantly! It's a safe place for the children. They provide breakfast and lunch for your children. Lot's of time savings. The 2 guys who prep the kids food are SUPER friendly and all the children seem to love them. :) They have video cams that you can log into to see your child. This is VERY rare to see. While I only logged in a couple times a day, I knew people who stared at their kids all day and it made them feel better . :) The owners also have a doctors office next door. I didn't use the doctors, but having doctors next door is comforting just in case. There is a dinner program. You just grab it when you pick up your kids! Food is decent and the prices are reasonable...GOOD VALUE!!! We used this every 2 weeks or so. THE BAD: They are disorganized in managing classrooms. While they will tell you that kids move at specific intervals, it just doesn't happen. Kids are moved around like pawns according to who's enrolling and your kids could be the oldest or youngest by far in a classroom. I have *heard* instances where children get moved around every 3-4 months. Not having that stability can be taxing on the kiddos and can affect their development. In my case, movements were just at a random times and happened swiftly. Teachers clean during the day. (wait what!?! isn't that a good thing?) I love that the place is always clean, but vacuuming, doing laundry, cleaning windows is all time NOT focused on the children. The saddest part was watching the teachers vacuum and seeing children crying out of fear. BTW, I saw all this in the cameras. :) It's my personal opinion that teachers should focus on children (singing, art, skill development etc). Cleaning should be left to a cleaning service that works after hours. No curriculum for the school or for individual classes. Take this as you will, but others school have "Letters of the week", "Animals of the Month", "sport of the week", Music classes. This place does have much of that and what they did have didn't really get followed. MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCES.... Newborn Class teachers were REALLY good. After that, meh. Communication was always an issue. Getting teachers to give you information was not easy. When there was hitting going on in the classroom (which is normal at 2 yo), I was told that my kid is "too sensitive" when I inquired. While the sensitivity of my child is an opinion, it really doesn't have anything to do with hitting and pulling hair and more importantly what was being done to address this behavior. :( I was really disappointed at the response I received and expected something a little more helpful. My child had trouble at drop-offs and didn't want me to leave so she clung to me. In 2 different classrooms, when that happened no one came over to help out. There were days I had to stand there for 5 minutes until a teacher paid attention and helped comfort my crying child. Some rooms were not equipped to handle children's needs. When it was time to potty train, there was no toilet in the room. We were told that the kids can go into another classroom when they need to go. YIKES....First, for the price we pay, I would expect a toilet in a 2 year old room. Second, for anyone who has potty trained before, when a toddler needs to go, THEY NEED TO GO :). Waiting for another teacher to come to ensure the "ratio" rules are followed and expecting a LO to "hold it" isn't a path to success. The director pretty much told us to deal with it. BTW....this was our final straw and decided to move after this. There is no outdoor playground for children under 3 (or 4). The LOs had to play in a little alley way on the side of the building. To be fair, there was a small indoor playground for the winter. 3 STARS... I know this review is more on the negative side, but I put ALOT of weight on "safe place". My feeling towards this daycare is that they have the right intentions, but they are still trying to figure it out. If you're looking for a safe place for your children, don't want to make lunch everyday, and value the ability to watch your kids all day long, this can be a good place for you. If you want your kiddos to be in a more "preschool" atmosphere to learn, work with teachers that are more "understanding", have teachers 100% focused on the children's needs vs house-keeping, have more predictable classroom moves that is based on child's age and needs, I would look elsewhere. From my understanding, they have started making moves to fix some of the things I mentioned above, but do you really want to be a part of the "fixing stage" or part of an established process? I chose to go to a more established place. I have since moved to another daycare and have been there for about 8 months. Both of my kids went to Dr luce daycare from march 2012. The youngest one just graduated from the preschool and joined her kindergarten happily . i can not say how we appreciate the convenience for us working parents . Facility -clean Healthy Food -onsite cooking lots of organic, less sugar , almost none preservative . i don't see anywhere to compare this place for worry free lunch. caring teachers-- we were so lucky, both kids met only great and caring teachers field-trip and outdoors etc -- OGA/ indoor soccer weekly from 2+. other holiday trips and performance are provided too. communication -- for issues , we have no problem to talk with Danielle (director) or classroom teachers sick days -- Children gets minor sickness in daycare not get dismissed immediately. My kids get a chance to get checked by Dr Mari/Dr macus onsite. The vomiting or high fever is not allowed to stay though read more

Today my youngest is graduating from Drs Luce Daycare and we're so sad to say goodbye to this wonderful daycare center. They took in my two boys three years ago after our previous wonderful daycare closed. I can't say enough good things about the program and the staff at Drs Luce. The teachers are skilled and caring and work so hard with the kids on an individual level. Their education philosophy is diverse and includes a variety of fun and educational actives including weekly field trips to Outdoor Goals and OGA, Onsite marital arts instruction provided by Aim High (who I also highly recommend), Japanese language and cultural immersion, free/choice time, hands on/applied learning, and critical thinking. They also foster creativity, individuality and emotional intelligence. Most importantly they genuinely know and care about my children and communicate with knowledge and compassion. My youngest was three when we joined drs luce, but several of our infant/toddler/preschool teachers joined DL at the same time, so I can rave about the staff for that age group as well. The director is compassionate, friendly, direct, easy to find or reach through e-mail, and quick to respond. I've toured a number of centers, spent four years with kids at Bright Horizons (now closed), and I highly recommend Drs Luce. Despite the sorrowful circumstances of losing our first center, I'm grateful we had a chance to go to Drs Luce and I wouldn't send my kids anywhere else. I should also add that the food made from scratch onsite is excellent. We've taken advantage of the go home meals program since it started and I'm really going to miss it. read more

Finding a provider you can entrust to care for your child(ren) is probably one of the toughest decisions as a parent. For us, we put this decision off and were fortunate to take time off from our jobs to stay home with our son until he was 2.5 years old. So when we decided to put him in daycare, we knew we needed to find the perfect place who could work with us and him to make the transition. With both of us being former teachers and working in education in various capacities (my PhD is in education), we were very particular with the type of center we were looking to attend. We toured a bunch in the Beaverton / Hillsboro area and even considered a few in downtown Portland. We heard about the Doctor's Luce Daycare (TDLD) from a local parent who has a sister who works there. Hearing the positive perspective of current staff prompted us to schedule a tour. Immediately, we were impressed with the center's organization and communication. The daycare director provided up with a thorough tour, answered our millions of questions (without judgment), and followed up with us afterwards when we still wanted to know more. We were 100% convinced this was the place for our son. We were fortunate to receive a spot and enrolled him ASAP. At the time of enrollment, he was struggling with speech and had never spent time away from us. The staff worked with us and him to ensure a smooth transition (providing us with tips for scheduling / drop off, allowing us to come in tour the room again, meet with teachers, etc.) I can't say the transition was easy for our son - but it was made completely bearable by the unbelievable support and love our family received from the teachers and staff. Since his first day, he now talks about how he loves school, asks to see his teachers and friends, and has no tears at drop off (!!). We have come a long way! Since the start of his time at TDLD, so much has happened to make us respect, appreciate, and love the place -- but here are a few highlights: - The daycare director's experience is notable. She has phenomenal communication and is extremely organized. She cares about the children at the center and personally reached out during the transition to help offer support for us (as parents). It brings us peace of mind knowing she is leading TDLD. - The teachers are INCREDIBLE. Each staff person knows our son by name and goes out of their way to say hi to us or make us feel welcomed when we are there. His classroom teachers are absolutely incredible and in just a month of being there have become family. They care for our son more than we have thought possible. He actually enjoys seeing them (he's added them to his nighttime "goodnight" routine for people he loves and wants to recognize each day). When we leave, he asks to go back to see them. They are truly incredible in their ability to care for children. - As a former educator, I know a lot goes beyond love and care. I am continually impressed with the curriculum at the Doctor's Luce. Our son went from struggling with speech to coming home counting in Japanese! He was exited from speech therapy and now talks with confidence. He still has a lot of growth to make in this area -- but the support he's received has been wonderful - Despite the strides in speech, our toddler is still a picky eater. But the teachers work with him to encourage him to try new foods. The menu at TDLD is incredible (with personal chefs on site!) with a take home meals program for parents! - The cameras are great peace of mind - especially when making the transition for new families. The transparency shows how committed TDLD is to providing exceptional care. Some other notable things we love and appreciate: - The diversity of the students and staff - Having a pediatrician office attached in case of an emergency - Added extra curricular activities provided for older students (e.g. soccer, martial arts) - The security of the facility (someone is ALWAYS at the door, keypad entry, keypad sign in/out, fully enclosed perimeter) - The support staff who continually go out of their way to help provide additional support to teachers - The low teacher/ student ratio - The bilingual / multicultural focus - Extended hours (6am-6pm) - They are open most major holidays - They have flexible pick up and drop off (do not adhere to strict times) - Curriculum is emailed weekly and posted outside of each classroom - SUPER FAST responses to e-mails / phone questions. - High vaccination rate (in comparison to most centers in the area) - Indoor gym space and great outside play area TDLD does not offer part-time daycare; however, after touring a bunch of places that did, the difference between the quality of care was remarkable and the cost insignificant. We were 100% confident paying $200-300 more a month for the FT care at a quality place like TDLD than somewhere that was substandard for less. If you can afford it, look no further! read more

I really like Dr.Luce. With my first son I was so scared on picking the right doctor, after coming here for my sons first visit I knew we choose a good doctor :) Every time I call with questions or concerns they always get back to me the same day and every time I need to schedule an appointment they always do their absolute best to work around my schedule. We are due in July with another baby boy and will definitely be bringing g him here as well :) read more

This seems like a great place at first. However, after I moved they were not able to provide me with my kids shot records. They promised to follow up with me but never called back. Very poor customer service, which makes it hard to trust their other services. Just because they speak a little Japanese does means they offer good service. Very disappointed! read more

I have two girls who have been in Dr Luce for many years. My big one just graduated from there. She still loves to huddle with her teachers and is fully ready for her kindergarten. As a parent, I think Dr Luces daycare provides a great education environments with great staff and especially they teach children in a good academic way. We have been working with The Doctors Luce on a professional basis now for 7-8 years and could not be happier! Their staff is always very courteous and extremely caring toward all of the children in their care. We have been seeing the pediatrician here for 4 years. I have been extremely happy with how the office is run, they seem to try and keep the patient load low so it is easy to schedule appointments and I never have to wait past my appointment time. We have never had a major medical problem with either of our kids so I can't really speak to how they have dealt with those issues, but for general well child visits and routine stuff things have been great. read more

Really love taking our kids here. The staff's personal service as well as the pediatricians makes this place hard to beat. We really enjoy the fact that our kids can play instead of wait in a boring exam room. Love that we can get ahold of our pediatrician all hours immediately. Didn't know they are solar powered too, very cool. We always feel like we get top-notch care with compassion when we take our kids in. read more
