I signed up for my first-ever woodworking class here, and it was great. The instructor (Baran) expertly guided us through every step. We learned how to use the miter and table saws, then sanded, nailed, and stained. Voila! I walked out with a pretty awesome wall shelf. Would highly recommend.

My son wanted woodworking/ to make something for his 9 year old birthday party. It was a bit tricky since most shops won't work with kids that young, but Baran was very accommodating and spent so much time trying to find an appropriate project allowing maximum kid involvement while also maximizing safety! My son and his 2 friends absolutely loved it! They made a gumball machine. Baron has such an easy going personality, clearly liked working with people/kids and the shop is gorgeous - light filled with vintage glass panes and is absolutely spotless. Thanks so much!

So glad I took the live edge table making class! It was fun and I learned alot. I've showed plenty of my friends this table Dave and Priscilla taught me to make. They are excellent teachers and I definitely look forward to trying out other classes!

The DIY joint is great for anyone that wants to learn about woodworking. I recently finished the live edge side table w/ bow ties and epoxy class with Priscilla. I've been wanting to build a custom desk top for a standing desk, so I decided to make a river table instead of a side table. In class we learned how to flatten a live edge wood with a router, and reinforce cracks with bow ties and epoxy. For an absolute beginner, building a table top from scratch was pretty intimidating but Priscilla was really encouraging and hands on throughout the entire process. I absolutely love this place and is looking forward to taking an intro to furniture making class!

    DIY serving tray: Super-Bowl-tested, drunk-dude-with-munchies-approved

Booked a beginner's woodworking class here on a whim, since I've always had a deep admiration for the art form and desire to learn it. And I'm glad as hell I did. The space was huge, clean, modern, well-kept, and our instructor Priscilla was professional, patient, and super helpful with everyone in the class. She also never talked down to, rushed, or mothered our efforts: basically the best thing you could hope if you want to learn how to woodwork from a pro, but still feel like you actually made the thing yourself. Everybody else in the class was super friendly and helpful (something that was surely aided by the fact that we were free to BYOBooze for the class, also a huge ++++) and I was so glad I went, even though I went alone (there were others there alone too so this also was a non-issue). Also, I tested the serving tray we made the very next day at a Super Bowl party, and it didn't break into a million pieces, so I consider it a resounding success overall. Although I'll be sure to return for any future, slightly more advanced woodworking classes, I was so impressed with this one that I'm also going to check out the other, non-wood-related courses DIY posts because what we made and did was that dope and I had that much fun. Go here.

    Live Edge Coffee Table Class

I had such a great time during the 3 week Live Edge side table class! The class was perfect for a beginner (I've never used power tools before) but moved fast enough that I felt like I was constantly learning and making progress on my table. Priscilla was amazing to work with! I had some custom specifications that I wanted (including a larger table and shorter legs to turn it into a coffee table instead of a side table) that she worked with me to make work. I've never felt so empowered to take on a craft that was in the past so intimidating to me. I highly recommend this or any other class at the DIY Joint. I've even already signed up for the Open Studio Certification because I can't wait to create some more unique projects for my home and friends/family. Thanks to everyone at the DIY Joint for a fun class, can't wait to come back!

My goal for this year has been to try new things and have new experiences. And as someone who loves…read moreto create, work with my hands, get messy and fill my home with things that I made, a potter course was a no brainer! Blue Skies Pottery has been on my radar for a while. I no longer live in Hoboken, but still really wanted to try my hand at their wheel course! For 2 hours, you get to done an apron, and learn from one of their very kind and patient instructors. We first made a bowl but mine somehow did not make it to the actual bowl stage. I was encouraged by the intructor saying that going too far is what pottery is all about. Why play it safe when you can just mush it back into a big ball and start over. So try 2 was for a vase! Sure it's short and swirly and imperfect but I personally love it and it now holds all of my make up brushes proudly. Their beginners course is $75 for a two hour lesson. You can choose to fire your piece or pieces for an additional $15 a piece. So really the wonky vase you think looks silly is actually a $90 ceramic masterpiece... You pick them up a month later and marvel at the fact that this was just a blob of clay 30 days prior. I'm now soooo excited to try one of the 6 week courses and get better and better, but really just mostly love the idea of working with my hands uninterrupted each week. Thanks for a wonderful experience!!

Each class holds a maximum of 8 people (please don't be late). This was always something I wanted to do ever since I saw the film, Ghost. Sue makes it a point to know everyone's name from the start but she gave me a special one...mom, because I came with my 21 year old son. Lol. She kept the entire class laughing throughout by getting to know each of us personally. I really enjoyed the group we were with. I already knew that I wanted to make a bowl so I can display it in my home. I wound up with a little dish instead. On my 2nd attempt I was like okay, you got this, you can make a bowl. I must have put too much pressure on the clay while going too fast on the pedal. Sue shouts out...look at mom go, she made another good looking plate. I guess I can use it as a jewelry dish. The pieces need time to dry. Choose the colors you want on the wall and they will glaze it for you. You pick up the finished pieces in 4 weeks. Please check out their website for prices. This was an introduction session but they also have weekly classes. I thought it was so sweet of Sue to ask if I had fun. I replied...I sure did because YOU made it fun for all of us!!! I highly recommend this activity if you've never done it before. I found it very therapeutic. You will also have the softest skin ever after you wash the clay off your hands. I had a blast. This place is located in Hoboken, NJ, hometown of Frank Sinatra. It's full of tree lined streets, cafes, and amazing restaurants. So come make a day out of it.

The store layout here is a big congested and feel the checkout area and online order area could be better designed. I placed an order online for store pickup and it was ready in less than 10 minutes after I placed the order, which was quite impressive (I couldn't go until a few days later). The pickup area is located to your left as soon as you get off the escalators. There really wasn't a shelf to get your items and your bags situated after you pick up your item and the waiting area was quite small. No one was there when I went to pick up but a line of about 5 people behind me formed as I got my item making it a bit tricky to navigate to leave the area while also trying to stuff my item into my bags. The general checkout area was quite tight as well. It's long and it's sometimes hard to see if a self checkout counter is open. Self checkout itself is pretty easy to use and I like how the machine is able to detect if the handheld scanner was properly placed back in its slot before it moves forward with checking you out. I was able to find my account easily and apply all my coupons during my transaction. To some degree I understand that many retailers are tighter on inventory to reduce how much needs to be sold at deeper discounts after certain holidays are over. However this also means certain things run out and there's no selection left which could also mean lost sales, which was the case when I came to look for a couple Christmas-related products a week before Christmas and much of that section looked decimated outside of wrapping paper, kitchen/dining supplies, some decorations and wearable accessories. They were already setting up for Valentine's Day. Walking around the store, I still appreciated that this location is still around, it's been a while since I've visited so I was glad to see still a strong selection of frames, scrapbooking supplies, paints, yarns and ribbons/trimmings. They also installed more self-service checkout machines. The shopping stop wasn't altogether unfruitful in that I picked up a pack of baked goods boxes (to place home-made cookies/pastries inside before gifting to others). I hope next time to find more of what I need!

In fact, I loved it so much that I went out and got that same gift for another friend's engagement. While the gift shop portion of Hudson Paperie is fantastic, I'm knocking off a star because I was not too impressed with their wedding invitation service. The consultation does not feel super personal, they mainly just throw a ton of big books at you to look through on your own. Which is not a huge deal, but but not for the price. Invites here are incredibly expensive - more expensive than most other invite avenues that I've come across. So for that price, it would have been nice to go through different styles with a consultant instead of being left to sort through 100+ books on my own. But, if you are fine with that they do have tons of styles in their books to choose from. So the selection is great, I just was not too impressed with the service for the price.
