This is the shop i earned my PADI open water certification over two decades ago. They are a great consistent & helpful dive shop. I eventually achieved Divemaster with over 500 dives around the world and 4 years with the National Park Service, aids to navigation and drowning victim body recovery, Lake Powell, Page Arizona. I am helping a friend that has a Mask leaking problem. She may need a new mask, with a better seal on her face. They have 6 Brands to choose from, 2 i would buy myself and one i have 4 masks in similar styles. 2 are prescription lens so i can read underwater. Really helpful. I completed my nitrox class and it was fantastic. Kim is a great instructor! Adrian also had some great insights and tips. Highly recommend. I also did a refresher course a few months ago and it was also a very good experience. I got certified as an OW diver in 1996 at The Dive Shop. The first time I took a breath underwater in the Dive Shop pool....I felt at home. Underwater is where I feel complete peace. I have gotten several other certifications elsewhere (I was not living in AZ) and enjoyed every single dive. I walked into the Dive Shop to take my BCD and Octopus to be serviced...and I was greeted by smiling staff, and my service order was taken. Staff are trained and are more than willing to answer ANY questions, but you can walk around without them being pushy. I like that. I treated myself to a three day scuba trip in San Carlos Mexico, with boat dives and beach time. It will be over the July 4th weekend, and I can not wait to load my scuba gear into my car and caravan down to be with my "people" (fishes n stuff). The Dive Shop offers safe and affordable dive trips locally, as well as all skill levels of classes . There was no YELP in 1996 when I got certified, but had there been...I would have given 5 stars as well. Dive shops have come and gone in Tucson.....and The Dive Shop is still standing. I believe it is is due to consistent PADI training, with no short cuts. read more

The class and pool instructors were wonderful, but class time was always running late because of how many people they packed into the class. Pool was difficult because of how many were in the class. It seems to me that you would want a reasonable number of people in class not just a huge group. This did not benefit anyone but the dive shops income. The pool is way too small for 10 people. There was a lot of confusion when getting gear to go for the final dive for certification. Again, the pre-dive class ran late due to the large number of people and chaos of the shop not being prepared. Nathan Smith is a spectacular instructor and did our water dive at Lake Pleasant. He was amazing! Request him if you use this shop I would give him a 5 star rating. He is the only reason I'm giving this 2 stars instead of 1. I felt really bad for Nathan because when the dive shop manager showed up to Lake Pleasant (very late) the manager was very disrespectful to Nathan and the other employees right in front of us. Unprofessional! Overall I was able to get certified, but I feel like I would suggest finding a place that is more organized, professional, has smaller groups, and that has good communication. My husband and i dropped into the dive shop to get information about scuba. The staff was very helpful, especially considering that we interrupted their lunch! They did not pressure us into signing up for classes or buying gear , they simply let us know the pros and cons of diving compared to snorkeling and such. They offer a scuba discovery class that is FREE , some of the other dive shops charge for this class, so this is great! My husband and i signed up and were so excited to try it out. Our instructor was chet and he was AWESOME! my hubby and i were the only two in the class and we had so much attention and chet helped us feel so comfortable. We are for sure signing up to get out PADI OW cert!! yay for scuba! read more

I am surprised to see so many high marks for the Dive Shop. I found them to be less than customer focused. I took my classroom, pool and open water certification through the Dive Shop. I could not in good faith recommend the Dive Shop. My instructor AJ was top notch. The rest of my experience from customer service while purchasing equipment, having equipment serviced, orientation for dive trip, the dive trip itself was all very disappointing. When I would be in the shop to purchase equipment, have equipment serviced, attending orientation for trip, taking trip I felt like I was an inconvenience to the employees. They were not customer focused. No level of customer service is offered at the shop at all. I would highly recommend looking elsewhere for your training, your equipment and your travel plans. My instructor for the open water certification was sub-par. Not helpful. No personality. He certainly was qualified and did make sure that we all could perform the necessary tasks, but that's where it ended. This is really an exciting accomplishment for me. I was hoping that the entire experience would mirror my excitement for the certification and the trip. It really could not have been further from the truth. I think that the lack of professionalism and customer service from the Dive Shop could have really detracted from my overall excitement about SCUBA diving. I hope that is has not for others as well. Look somewhere else to spend your dollars and get certified. read more

A pretty good experience overall. We did their discover scuba class, which was wonderful to get a feel for it in a safe environment. The staff were friendly and it was very low pressure. The only negative was that there were a bunch of us in the pool, which isn't very big, so you couldn't really swim around too freely without the risk of bumping into someone. But it was a good way to explore scuba and the equipment involved if you've never done it before. We'll be back again. read more

My wife and I certified with The Dive Shop three years ago. The instruction was excellent and paced well for each of us. The onsite pool for the initial skill experience complemented the classroom lectures, as well as breaking the training into structured study and performance segments. We completed our Open Water and Advanced Open Water on organized trips with the staff, as well as a number of additional PADI classes. Since our introduction in 2015, we've completed over 150 dives each with a combination of trips with The Dive Shop family, as well as several vacations planned by us. In addition to the excellent staff, Del Randall, owner, has always been helpful with answers to our questions. Additionally, who would have known the excellent diving opportunities a short drive away in Mexico. read more

Meh. I will not have a birthday party here. We went for our kids friends party, and they sure do stuff down the food in the kids and then move you over the pool pretty quick. We showed up one minute after the official start time (I know this because I had to check my phone to make sure we were at the right place), and they were already singing happy birthday. Once we were rushed into the pool area, it was a lot of lecture on scuba, which I can understand. If there are kids that can't scuba, they are left waiting on the sidelines for the majority of the time. Once the end time neared, the instructors were yelling at everyone to get out, but they could at least help some of the kids to take off the gear--the kids were in a panic to get out but unable to get the gear off quick enough for the instructors, who were just cleaning up and not helping. I'm sure some of the older kids had fun, but it's not a place for everyone. read more

SCUBA CLASS: First, we got a great price. We used the entertainment coupon to get second person 1/2 price. The instructor, DEB PRNCE, was awesome! She is real world people who puts the information in real world words, and makes sure you 'get it'. The classes were fun and fast paced, but if I needed a little extra attention, I got. it. There were only 5 students, with 2 teachers, so attention was not a problem. I had a minor physical problem, and both Deb and Chris really went out of their way to make sure I was taken care of to the best of their ability. Really appreciated that! THE SHOP: every employee I have dealt with has been very knowledgeable, eager to share their experiences and recommendations without making me feel like I was getting a sales pitch. They haven't tried to 'up sell' me, and have even suggested renting equipment and not rushing in to buying anything until I have figured out what I like. I price shopped others, and have found them to be better priced than other stores and have equal pricing on many items to the internet. Since I prefer to shop local, I really appreciate that. read more

The Dive Shop and the staff are awesome! The instructors were prepared and helpful with all our questions. Buying gear was easy and the service was personalized and friendly. They have a wide assortment but we never felt overwhelmed because they helped us find exactly what we were looking for...I highly recommend them if you are new to scuba and we are amazed at the number and variety of trips they offer too.
