A wonderful English pub nestled in a beautiful location, the decor is traditional pub but with modern upgrades to the bar, but its the food that's the real winner here. Specials listed on chalkboards around the pub offer alternates to the solid menu, i really wished i could have ordered about 5 appetizers and 6 main's but alas, only one stomach! Prawn cocktail app was traditional English, small prawns in a delicious marie rose sauce with a few slices of granary bread, this was a huge serving, could almost feed two (but there was no way i was sharing!) For mains i went light, grilled salmon with baked potato with seasonal veggies, absolutely cooked to perfection grilled salmon with a decent sized potato with carrots and green beans. Other winners at our table were the Sunday roast, meat and potato pie, ribs and chicken and the southern fried chicken. Great value, clean, and a well diverse menu make The Railway one of my favorite places to visit when i'm in England.

There's plenty of space and the pricing is very fair for what you get. Only minor quibble might be that the music is sometimes a little on the loud side and I always feel vaguely rushed when that's the case, but like I say: a minor quibble in what is otherwise a very nice little local haunt.

On the main road, is a large car park, which opens onto the pub's beer garden and the rear entrance. The pub itself dates to the 17th Century and is grade II listed. The facade is pretty as a postcard, with creeper growing over the stone walls. Inside, a fairly thorough makeover gives it a more modern feel, with white and pastels complementing the wooden furniture. They have an a la Carte and fixed price menu. The offering varies from sandwiches and light bites to full meals. I had the garlic mushrooms with grated Parmesan on brioche toast (£7.95), friends had the Locally Sourced Ham, Free Range Fried Eggs & Chips (£10.95); and Beer Battered Haddock with Chips, Peas & Tartar Sauce (£13.95). The meals are great and they have specials on the blackboard, most of us had the burgers at £12.95 each which is a great price! The manager also came to say hello to make sure we was all happy! I've only been on wet, dreary winter days. But I bet the outside seating is fabulous in good weather. The food is delicious. I've had a roasted vegetable and hummus focaccia, and the red onion bhaji. The pub has a more formal dining are and a bar with tables, you can reserve a table in either section. The atmosphere is good, no doubt helped by a decent playlist on the sound system and a number of Pete Mckee canvases on the walls. The beers are from the Thornbridge brewery and are excellent. The food is also very good, priced in the gastropub range, but is worth the price. I'd recommend booking as it can get (unsurprisingly) pretty busy especially on a weekend lunch time.
