A proper pub for grown ups, with a lovely atmosphere and the food was great. I had a steak and my girlfriend had the Sea Bass and we both licked the plates clean. Staff were really good and prices were very fair. Enjoyed it so much the two of us went back next day for Sunday lunch. We hadn't booked this time and the place was busy but it wasn't too long a wait before the manager found us a table. Fantastic roast with real, homemade Yorkshire pudding and washed down with some kick ass Bloody Mary's. Go there !

When pre-booking for a table of two, we realised that we weren't going to be able to make our…read morereservation time. So ringing to rearrange always makes me a little nervous (I hate being a pain in the bum). But the conversation I had with the Harts representative was so reassuring that I immediately felt comfortable with my new booking. We were also staying at the hotel that weekend (which I will also review) and had a pre-dinner drink in the bar (which again was fantastic) and was a perfect start to the evening. Arriving at the restaurant (if I'm completely honest) I was a little disappointed with the décor. It reminds me very much of a fine dining establishment in America... which I personally think is quite an old fashioned take on being "modern". But none of that matters when you receive the service and the standard of food that we received that evening. I started with the tuna cerviche. It was garnished well with coriander making the dish light and refreshing. The tuna was absolutely delicious and sometimes I avoid it because it can have a jelly-like texture which I don't enjoy at all. But this was perfect. I then opted for a sirloin main course, and my, oh my, it was one of the tastiest pieces of meat I've ever eaten (and I do love a steak). It was cooked to perfection and exactly as I'd asked for it. Juicy, tender meat served with thrice cooked chips, roasted veggies and a sauce that was sweet and rich. The sauce was actually so yummy that I asked for more so I could dip my chips in it (you can take the girl out of Stoke, but you can't take Stoke out of the girl). We then had a melt in the middle chocolate fondant, with pistachio ice cream. Now this was where the service could have gone terribly, but it didn't. We ordered two desserts and the waiter had misheard us. When one dessert arrived with two spoons, the waiter immediately came to us and apologised profusely. Now I was already stuffed at this point and was ready to cancel the dessert anyway, but the manager then arrived to explain that the dessert was on it's way and would not be added to the bill along with two complimentary glasses of champagne. Now that is service. We were made to feel welcome and looked after in a professional yet friendly way. The little stumble at the end of the meal could have been a disaster in some establishments, but at Harts it just proved that everything is done with grace and expertise. Harts will certainly have my heart for a while.

The restaurant wasn't super busy, but the ambiance was comfortable and despite the fact that we were probably much louder than any other table there it didn't feel like we were disturbing the peace the way it sometimes does in nice restaurants. From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable. Our drinks orders were taken immediately and the service was attentive but not over-bearing. My brother's girlfriend is vegetarian which usually means she has the option of only 1 or 2 dishes on the menu, but Hart's had a separate vegetarian menu they brought for her which had about 10 dishes on it- again a sign of the excellent service. It sucks when vegetarians are treated like second-class citizens and Hart's was quite the opposite. The food itself was excellent. I ordered the game terrine followed by the sea bream from the set menu (they had no problem with my mixing and matching, which is always nice). Both were delicious. I also tasted the mushroom fricassee starter which was great, and the venison for main course which was truly delicious. The only downside was that they had run out of 2 dishes - I assume because it was right after Christmas and they weren't expecting a busy night. Definitely a disappointment, however, when we mentioned that we were really disappointed that there was no calve's liver left because the person who had wanted it had never tried it before, they actually brought out a small taste of the dish for him to try - in addition to his main course and at no charge. Again, another sign of the excellent service. All in all, a great experience and if you want to have a nice dinner with great service, I can recommend no place more highly than Hart's.

First off I needed a dine and go lunch before my trip to the Thornbridge brewery (something had to soak up the beer...) and I got a really tasty smoked salmon white roll for £3.50. The next occasion was a few hours later when I popped in to see if they had any bakewell tarts left that I could buy and take home for dessert that night. They were just literally shutting the doors but the friendly owner let me in and sold me a few slices - at a discount even due to her saying they would have been better eaten that night (I love independent business') I literally didn't have time to hang around and smell the roses but it's a really cool sandwich shop and deli - plus the sandwich and tarts were pretty damn good!

Out of the centre slightly, we easily got a table without a booking, the restaurant itself being quite expansive, with a good range of seating and plenty of space. Our round table was perfect for lunch, very sociable. There is also outdoor seating too, which would be lovely on Summer's night. A woodburner added much needed heat to the restaurant, but it was still a little chilly where we were sat, because our table was next the large glass entrance door. The Pointing Dog & Duck has a sizeable bar, with a good variety of beer and wine, but it was soft drinks all round, as most people were driving. There are separate lunch and dinner menus, both of which had a decent variety of classic and more unusual dishes. Going straight for the mains, there was a good selection of dishes like fish and chips, Steak Frites, and Caesar Salad. Between the five of us though we had a pizza topped with duck, Hoisin sauce and coriander, crisp, large and tasty; a mushroom and spinach rigatoni, probably the pick of the dishes, packed full of flavour, and a decent sized portion. Two of our party opted for the Hake fillet, with Chorizo and Cannellini beans, a hearty dish perfect for a winter's day. I went for the Pdog Bacon Cheeseburger, again a sizeable, tasty burger, with a mountain of fries, but maybe next I'll be more adventurous next time. One course and lots of talking later, we were all pretty much full, no room the intriguingly named 'Snicker's Mess', maybe next time. This is definitely a venue we will visiting again soon.

Refreshing, strong, plentiful... the best. The loaded hashbrowns were okay - the potatoes were a bit undercooked and cheese sauce served it's purpose I guess but the bacon was perfect, the right amount, fried to perfection, and honestly the saving grace of the meal.
