Walking outside of the popular Shanghai Village Dumpling House on Little Bourke Street, I was greeted by the sight of "The Dessert Kitchen." What good timing! My friend and I were debating which dessert place to go after stuffing our faces with dumplings. Lo and behold, the bright lighted sign of "The Dessert Kitchen" overheard our conversation and enticed us in.
They had a dessert special: buy one get one free (after tagging #thedessertkitchenau on Instagram). And, it was the last day they were offering it. Well, that's good enough reason to go in! And so, I did.
Instantly, I was greeted by smiling staff. They had directed us to a table to be seated, and presented us with a menu to gaze at their several dessert options. On the first page, there was a display of the signature item: Purple in Love- An automatic choice for any adventurous foodie. To contrast my choice, my friend picked "The Snowy Land": a strawberry sundae. Included with the new store Instagram promotion, we opted to try the tea jellies!
All the desserts looked so delightful! Purple in Love was very decorative with all its toppings. The tea jellies were nicely presented in a row. They were larger than they appeared in the picture. The Snowy Land had a well-balanced flavor, and not overly sweet.
While we were sampling our buffet of desserts, we noticed some sort of mochi wrapped brownie plate that was brought over to a table next to us. I can't believe I missed that one! Mochi is definitely one of my favorite desserts! I guess this means that I'll have to go back there to try it!
Overall, it was a good experience. It has a nice social vibe- definitely a good place to meet up with some friends. There are so many dessert options, you'll have to keep coming back to try them all! :) read more
