Food: This has to be among some of the best desserts in Melbourne. Everything was beautifully crafted, and tasted exceptional. They are like little pieces of edible art! Atmosphere/service: The seating area is quite small, and obviously gets busy. We timed it well and managed to get a table straight away. Staff were happy to discuss the range of sweets on offer, and provide advice. Despite the cafe being busy, we didn't feel pressured or rushed to leave our table once we had finished eating. Would I recommend it: Yes, to be honest, if I had the time (and the funds) I'd probably hang out their every day just to enjoy their beautiful selection of sweet treats!

Fancy pants desserts that satisfy your sweet tooth and your need for social superiority. When tucking into a plain, everyday brownie or boring, old mud cake isn't enough, then Le Petit Gateau will serve you up some tiny, indulgent treats that combine so many flavours, textures and techniques you'll feel honoured you were even given the opportunity to take a bite. Don't believe me? Then let me give you an example. Their famous Brownie and Passionfruit Chocolate Gateau starts with a thick, brownie base. Then they add a layer of rich crispy praline. On top of that they smooth on a generous amount of passionfruit custard, which is topped off with sinful chocolate mousse. The whole cake is then covered in silky ganache and a sliver of tangy passionfruit jelly. So if you're still reading this and haven't already jumped off your chair and made a mad rush to Le Petit Gateau, you might also like to know that many of their sliced cakes are available in larger sizes for special occasion. Everything here is also made onsite, in fact you can actually see the kitchen from the café. So pull up a seat, order a coffee and cake or two, or perhaps even a macaron, and watch them at the back whipping up some delicious magic.

This place is ideal for a catch up either for business or with friends. The window display offers a range of delicious French treats and entices people inside. The service is excellent and food is very good. It's a small place but it's big on quality. The coffee is excellent. Thank you.

A very slick enterprise this place. Had the brownie, it was very light and fluffy with a nice little mango jelly slice in the middle.

Thanks Joe for the prompt delivery and time and effort you have put in for making this delivery to happen. Very good services .

I loved the Lemon Tart, as it was neither too sweet or sour, and I love tart pastries!

If you are in Melbourne/Australia, you should definitely give Laurent a try!!…read moreThis is one of the best, and one of my favorites Bakery/Cafe I have been to. I tried their Hot Chocolate & dessert cake, called "Monte Carlo". It's a Chocolate mousse with cafe creme & chocolate biscuit covered with milk chocolate glaze. The glaze outside was shinny, smooth, and light, which is perfect for me. Texture, creamy, but not too sweet. Dessert was great, and Hot Chocolate too. Located in the city, 5 to 7 minutes away from Flinders Street railway station by train (Melbourne, Victoria). A cute, nice, fancy French bakery/cafe in the city, nothing can be better than spend a free day with your friends/love/family at Laurent. Services and staffs are great! I didn't have to wait for long, they take good order, and give you great recommendations, and ask for your opinions after. Customers will always feel welcomed, and happy when the staffs are always smiling. Overall, great place + dessert! Try it out, if you have a chance, definitely worth it. Love and miss this place.

Finally succumbed this afternoon. Pleasant surprise - they serve a pretty large latte in a bowl (like those I recall from trips to Paris) rather than the thimbles served all over the city! I also tore up a delicious lemon tart. Woohoo - good times!

I've been to France on the odd occasion, and I must say that every time I was in a Parisian bakery I'd think to myself "Wow, this feels a lot like Blackburn." That's not entirely true, but Blackburn and France are joined with a wonderful bakery serving the most delicious french pastries and more. Wit both owners as pastry chefs, you wont find a better place in a good ten kilometres of here. The only problem I've had every time I go it "What to have?" which often leads to "What to have first?" Vanilla slice with delicious flaky pastry. Tarts. Meringues. Eclairs. Cheesecakes. Truffles. The list goes on. For those after a more savoury selection, there is also pasties, quiches and pies. All bits are made fresh daily on the premises, so the best time to come is mid morning for the best selection available. Come any later and you may miss out. The coffee is a wonderful strong addition to the sugary sweetness of the pastries, and all the energy will keep you going until your next meal.
