In working with Peggy, and strictly in my experience, I discovered that, while acupuncture is not a panacea, it's not a placebo, either. There are some things it works well for, and, some, not so much. Some effects are lasting, others are temporary. In practice, I found I need to use acupuncture tactically as an adjunctive therapy. You can easily be lulled into this as a weekly getaway or spa treatment. Peggy has convenient hours and a very cozy, comfortable room at Central Family Practice. It's such a welcoming escape from the stresses of everyday life that you have to be careful not to abuse the hour-long escape of incense, essential oils, and music. What I respect and appreciate about Peggy is that she is a holistic Eastern-centric practitioner. Her treatment plan starts with a very thorough dossier of paperwork involving your medical history, and a required 30 minute assessment and interview prior to the first session. That's far more than you'll get with any Western doctor on the first visit, indeed. Without a doubt, Peggy rocks. If you're thinking about getting started with acupuncture, I'd give her a try. After seeing the remarkable changes in coworkers around me, I finally got on the wait list and man am I grateful that I did. Lyndsay has transformed my mind, body, and soul. The best part, this is not your average Acupuncture practice, where someone comes in, puts a bunch of needles in you and leaves then comes back 30 min later and you're done. I've been to many of those practices around town, with ZERO results. Lyndsay starts each session by understanding what is going on with you not only physically, but emotionally. She is with you the entire treatment, reading pulses to understand where blockages are formed and then works to open them up. Every single detail is thought through and explained. From the first treatment till a year and a half later, I walk out feeling like a new human. My stress levels, on average, are through the roof, my shoulder, back, hip pain constant, hot flashes, psoriasis, you name it, all manageable now thanks to her and this practice. There is no way to vocalize the feeling you get after treatment, it's like a rebirth, I kid you not...you walk out feeling superhuman. If you are looking for someone to help all things you, this is the place. Five Element Austin transformers mind, body, and souls. You will NOT be disappointed.

It's been a slow process, but my overall health and wellness has improved dramatically, and my sessions with Paddy are like a little oasis in my week. Paddy really takes the time to talk with me about what's going on in my life and with my health to get a sense of the bigger picture, and her treatments bring on a sense of ease and relaxation. I also love that she incorporates bodywork into her acupuncture sessions - always a welcome treat for my perennially tense neck and shoulders! Paddy is also a genuinely kind, thoughtful, and spiritual being with a lot of wisdom to share. I appreciate her on so many levels.

I went to Dr. Pea back in 2014 for a consultation. At the time, I was not contributing to Yelp,…read moreso this is a much belated contribution (so I will add the disclaimer that things could very well have changed since then...example, she has a new studio.) At the time, I visited Dr. Pea for a consultation because I was looking for a nutritional change and she had good ratings. I found some of her advice helpful, and some...just bizarre! She recommended a book "The Tao of Healthy Eating," which I read through once and never used. I'll be honest, I used Weight Watchers instead and found MUCH better results that way...I didn't need to spend the $$ on alternative treatment of herbs and acupuncture to get me where I wanted to go. During the consultation, she also made a semi-insulting (but now funny) comment about how if we were both chickens, I would be tasty (due to being overweight) and she would not be (being thin). Came out of the blue and is probably not the best way to attract clients! Seemed like a momentary loss of tact. I am giving 3 stars only because she seemed like a person with good intentions. I also had limited experience there-- that said, if you are considering a visit, just be aware her methods are not for everyone.

After only ONE visit, my back stopped hurting. This was the first time in 10 years I didn't' have back pain and it was a result of Jen's great care. I'm a runner, and after doing a half-marathon a few years ago, I developed persistent ankle pain in one side that wouldn't go away. I went to a doctor, had an MRI, did physical therapy for a while, saw a chiropractor for around 6 months, and tried all sorts of insoles, but it just wouldn't go away or even improve. I had pretty much given up when a friend and fellow runner recommended Jen. She'd gone to Jen for plantar fascitis and had gotten immediate relief. I had done traditional acupuncture once before (just to try it; not for any sort of physical issue), and while it was nice, I didn't really experience any noticeable effects. So I couldn't imagine it would help with ankle pain, especially when nothing else had. But I hadn't tried the style of acupuncture Jen did for my friend, so I figured I had nothing to lose here. Jen immediately made me comfortable and listened to my issues, then talked me through what she was going to try. She focused on releasing my tight calf muscles, and the sensation was totally weird but not painful at all (like a brief, fluttery muscle spasm, and after the session my muscles were sore, as if I'd worked them out). After enduring things like deep muscle stripping (which left me bruised for days) to trigger point therapy massage (AKA extended torture), I was really relieved at how easy and even relaxing this was. After two sessions, I went on vacation. One evening, after I'd gone for a morning run and then walked around the city all day in crappy sandals, I realized that my ankle wasn't bothering me. At all. This was the first time since the pain began that I hadn't felt it after a run or after a day on my feet (not to mention BOTH). I couldn't believe it, but this was the first and only thing that worked. Like, at all. I've since kept seeing Jen to maintain my happy ankles (the persistent pain has never come back!) and also to address other issues, from wrist pain to allergies to neck cramps. I always look forward to my appointments, and I leave completely relaxed and feel real improvement in whatever we worked on every time. Not to mention that I always enjoy seeing Jen and chatting with her--she is such a sweet, funny, genuine person. You won't find better! Acupuncture has become something I really rely on to maintain my overall health now, and it's 100% thanks to Jen.
