I made an appointment for my 19 mo old son after a friend recommended this practice. I must say, I was not the least bit impressed! If there was an option for "0" stars I would have chose it. My son suffers from chronic eczema. After going through a slew of tubes of hydrocortisone and other steroids and I was looking for another solution. As you can tell from the review, I didn't find one!
Upon entering the waiting room, I immediately noticed the "stuffy" atmosphere. There is nothing friendly and welcoming about this office! It has a victorian theme- (high back wood settees- fit for Queen Elizabeth herself), which seems to suggest you are walking into an older hotel lobby. Needless to say, and the office staff went along with the decor. After waiting about 10 minutes one of the receptionists did strike a pleasant conversation with me in regards to my son and her own children. She was nice and made the time in the waiting room seem go by faster. After 20 minutes of waiting my son decided "duty calls". Since this practice does service little ones, I was amazed to see there was not a diaper changing station in the bathroom. I asked the front desk receptionist if there was a diaper changer I could use. She said, "No, there was not" and apologized. At this point, I'm thinking, "Ummm, you see pediatric patients, but you don't have a diaper changing station?" Luckily, I remembered when I walked into the building there was a pediatric office off to the right. I told the receptionist that I would be right back as I was going to see if I could use their facilities. You think the lady would have known and recommended I go over to the pediatric office, but she didn't. Only after I said I was going there did she pipe up and say, "yeah, that is a good idea" (or something to that effect).
I came back after changing my son and waited another 8 min or so until our name was called. So, it was approximately a 40 min wait from my initial appointment time to get into the room. After my son's name was called, we waited another 20 min in the room for the doctor. When I entered the room I immediately noticed a rolling tray to the left hand side of the bed. You can imagine my distress when I noticed on the tray laid a blade, gloves, a syringe, and needle. At the time, I thought it was "used tray" from a previous patient, but later was told it was a "prep tray" and because they do so many procedures they keep them in ALL of the rooms. I was relieved that it was not a "used tray" like I initially thought and the instruments were sealed, but I was still annoyed that they sent me into a room with a child under the age of 2 with a rolling tray with instruments. Needless to say, I held my son in my arms for about 10 minutes and barricaded him to left side of the room (opposite of the tray) for the remainder of the time we waited. SIDE NOTE: I understand it's not the practice's responsibility to watch my son to ensure his safety, but you would think common sense would come into play and they would remove a prep tray knowing that younger patients were entering the room. Dr. Jessica Boroweiz was nice, but she didn't take the time to look at my son and really listen to my concerns. She only looked at his face (which was obvious). I had to show/point out to her the rest of the patches. Soon after she observed his skin she sat in front of me and filled out what seemed to "101 cheat sheet" for treating eczema in all patients. I was a bit taken back that it seemed to be so "standardized". To be honest, aside from adding a 1/4 cup of bleach water to his bath water and allowing him to soak for 15 minutes 2 X''s per week- the treatment she recommended was not different from the other practices I have seen. The only saving grace to the entire experience was the nurse, Isabella. She was sweet, caring, and compassionate. She saw me leaving the room and asked how the appointment went. I answered her accordingly and told her I was not very impressed and she was so sympathetic and sweet and tried to reassure me that the treatment should work. Kudos to Isabella!!!
Aside from Isabella, you would think my bad experience ended there, but it did not. I walked out to the check out counter where the check out receptionist was chatting with another co-worker. My son at this point was very antsy after being there over 1.5 hours. I patiently waited. Once it was our turn to check out I was amazed the check out receptionist was pulling down products off the shelf to give to me. No concern for the cost she just rang it all up. Talk about pushing products off on patients! I was so annoyed. I began weeding out the products she laid on the counter--- why do I need to add more products to my collection at home. I bet this is how they make ends meet, because it is definitely not on the service! Needless to say, I'm never EVER going back!!! read more
