I had an orthodontic emergency where my permanent retainer broke, and there was exposed sharp metal in my mouth. I was not originally a patient with Chan & Chen Orthodontics but they still took me right away. I called many other orthodontics offices, and nobody else could take me that day. It was the Friday before a 3 day weekend, and I was very scared I'd have to go the whole weekend with the sharp metal in my mouth. Chan & Chen Orthodontics fixed my permanent retainer quickly and did a great job, for a reasonable price. I would highly recommend this business.

However, once I mentioned I was from CA and how much I typically pay there the estimate was jacked up to conform. Nowhere in the nation do they charge $700 for a chair bonded tooth. Now I am stuck with a horrible look which means no more smiling! I can buy a plane ticket to LA and with bonding included at $350 be far ahead of dealing with this work. I called to make an appointment in order to replace a retainer that I lost a year ago in a house fire. When I called, the receptionist that responded told me the price. I asked if I was going to have to wait a week like last time I got a replacement. She said no and that retainers are made within the same day of the appointment. I said okay and agreed to an appointment date and time. The day comes of the appointment, and everything is going as how I remembered it was last time. Until I get attended by what I assume is an orthodontic assistant (?). I noticed no actual orthodontist on site. So, the orthodontic assistant didn't ask me about my current state of teeth or what I was looking for, in which I found odd. I tried explaining some things, but the woman didn't bother to ask me to elaborate so I assumed she understood the purpose of my appointment (my teeth had shifted and I was looking for a retainer to shift my teeth back to how it was post braces, which Dr. Leonard did for me back in 2017). Anyways, she creates the mold and comes back maybe 30 mins later. She comes back with a clear retainer like the ones Invisalign uses. I told her this isn't what I wanted I wanted a Hawley retainer in which she said oh we make these now and told me if I don't like them I can make an appointment with an orthodontist who is only on site Wednesdays. I asked her will this be a monthly thing, and she proceeded to tell me this won't help shift teeth but only maintain my current state of teeth. I could only think "are you kidding me???" I wasted my time to get here and pay my hard earned money for someone to give exactly what I didn't ask for. Why would I want a retainer to maintain teeth that have visibly shifted? Having previously read the reviews before my appointment, I decided to leave instead of further dealing with them. With the way things are being ran and just the overall attitude of the situation, like this woman couldn't have clarified or the receptionist told me, knowing I have had this done before and have been a patient of Dr. Leonards since 2008. I could have easily complained and made a Wednesday appointment or whatever, but it's the principle. She saw the state of my teeth and thought "what she needs is a plastic retainer that does not help her situation at all". I don't plan on going back here and I plan to get my retainers elsewhere where they actual listen to my concerns and use common sense. His teeth look beautiful! He never once complained about going to the office because Dr. G. and the staff are really friendly, kind, and gentle with the kids. My oldest son has autism. I was very concerned about him because of sensory issues. But he ended up doing even better with his treatment than my youngest did! This was all due to a very personal, understanding, hands-on approach by Dr. G. He directed information and comments about what was going to happen, or has happened, to my son and treated him as he should: like a teenager who has the right to know what is going on with him physically; like a teenager who needs to take charge of his own health. My son notices when he is treated age-appropriately and respectfully and responds in kind. I had been very sad to learn that my oldest's teeth were a complete mess, or an "involved case," as Dr. G. referred to it. Of all kids to have so many problems going on! He even had a tooth stuck in his palate toward the back of his mouth! But with the wonders of oral surgery and skilled orthodontic treatment, you would never know that tooth was ever up there. It is right where it belongs now! He just got his braces off a couple of weeks ago after 3 years of treatment, and his teeth look amazing! Side notes: I paid the same amount for both boys and was told that no matter what the treatment involved, the price is the same. I am quite sure that what Dr. G. did for my older son went far beyond "the usual" orthodontic treatment! Also, the wait time in the office is very reasonable. Even if the waiting area is packed, we never have to wait an unusual amount of time for the kids to get called in. The staff is also very understanding of the fact that I occasionally come in late because my oldest son is coming from a school a half an hour away (traffic).
