So if you need a filling you must get a referral to a dentist. And I had to rinse my mouth in what amounted to a storeroom (the dental chair didn't have the integrated tap and sink) But $80 is really cheap and the service is good. This review has been a long-time coming and I want to be thorough so it will be lengthy. Grab a…read moresnack and settle in. I was a patient a Royal York Dental for over 7 years, maybe closer to 10, and I left because I finally had enough. I have a clear memory at my initial appointment of being told that if my insurance situation ever changed, to let them know, as they would do what they could to manage cost. At some point I went freelance and let them know I no longer had insurance. Unfortunately, by the time this happened the business had already changed ownership and my dental visits only seemed to get more expensive from there on out until I finally decided enough was enough. In recent years, every visit at Royal York Dental I was told - strongly - that I didn't take care of my teeth. I was told I didn't floss enough and as a result my gums were recessing and in the near future I would probably need a gum graft. A GUM GRAFT. I also should buy an expensive Sonicare toothbrush - which they just happen to sell there. I got so many units of scaling I could have opened a rock-climbing gym. Nothing was ever optional, everything was "necessary". Not to mention, my cleanings were always painful no matter how well I took care of my teeth (so. much. scaling). There was even a time between visits where I flossed every single day. I made it my mission. I went in and was told I need to floss more and I was headed towards a larger issue. They made me feel like I lost the dental genetic lottery no matter what I did. I started to ask around among my friends and I realized - none of them were *this* unhappy with their dentist visits. I was convinced I must have bad teeth but I'd give a new place a shot because the cost at RYD was just getting to be too much. WELL - I just had an incredibly thorough (and oddly enough, not painful) cleaning, exam and x-rays elsewhere and both the dentist and hygienist said my teeth were actually in great shape. My recessing gums? Turns out they aren't changing and in fact, they are what they would expect from someone who had braces. Nothing to worry about. Especially not with how well I take care of my teeth. HUH. They also charge the provincially recommended amounts for dental services. And the front desk staff were wonderful. I came home in shock. Do not go to Royal York Dental. After years of being lied to I feel obligated to share and warn others. Going to the dentist doesn't need to be expensive or worrisome. Lastly, if you're a current patient reading this and you feel like maybe there's some dental gaslighting going on - it's worth it to start over elsewhere.

My wife and I had both been looking for a new dentist after we were underwhelmed with our last…read moreappointment (about a year ago). Our stretch of Danforth is really well-served by dentists, but we were very interested in this new, well-appointed "Dental Hygiene Spa" kitty-corner to our local park. We'd heard good things, but only went ourselves very recently. First, and this is important: Impressions isn't a dentist's ofice - it's run by dental hygienists. (The Ontario government made it possible for dental hygienists to operate without a dentist's supervision with the Health System Improvements Act of 2007.) While they can refer you to a dentist, all they can do in-house is cleaning (scaling), polishing, sealing and fluoride treatments. That's enough for me, and I trust that someone who sees teeth all day can recognize a cavity, but they don't have an X-Ray machine, so they can't see between teeth; if that's what you're looking for, look elsewhere. I was really impressed with Impressions. Georgia, the hygienist who worked on my teeth (potentially their only hygienist?), was gentle but very thorough. I had a full examination beforehand, then a full scaling & polish. Before she starts the examination, though, she dips your hand in a bath of (hot, but not boiling) paraffin wax, then puts your hands in plastic bags and then (and I found this part cute!) oven mitts to keep the wax warm longer. I'd never had a paraffin wax treatment, and I really found it made my hands lovely & soft. And to have it at the dentist? unthinkable! My wife generally has trouble with her teeth and needs a lot of thorough cleaning, but she said Georgia was gentle and didn't hurt her gums much, a huge plus for her. Natalie, the receptionist/administrator, was really organized, and she contacted my insurance provider to find out exactly what was covered under my plan, then laid it out for me in a document she prepared. My only gripe is that we had to pay, then wait for the insurance company to reimburse us, rather than the thing I've seen a lot of other dentists do, send the form in to the insurance company and get them to send a cheque directly. She did send the form in for us, though, so it's not all bad news. All-in-all, we were really impressed, and we'll definitely be back. Impressions is a really great addition to the neighbourhood!

I was completely surprised and satisfied with my experience here…read more I don't have insurance and I can't book a cleaning with a dental office without the full (and pricey) checkup. The hygienists at Impressions were super thorough and explained everything. They do an initial checkup, charting your teeth and gums. My teeth were heavily stained and they were able to clean them up perfectly. Not only that but they discovered the issue. I was using bad mouthwash! Above and beyond that, they give you a paraffin wax hand treatment to help relax you before they do the cleaning. I'll definitely be coming back!

She is caring and professional. The receptionist is pleasant and helpful. The hygienist and the dental assistant are gentle and efficient in their work. Overall it is a wonderful experience to go to the dentist. There is no pain and no fear here. Dr. Razi is the best dentist in my lifetime. I truly recommend this dental office.

The two hygienists who have worked on me have also been fantastic - I have some sensitive particular areas and they have been very careful and able to give cleanings much more gently than the dental office I used to frequent. Dr. Razi also actually cares about her patients and her work, and is willing to work out payments whatever your circumstances. People come first at her office. If anyone can make a dental experience pleasant, it's her.
