From the initial telephone call to book an appointment you will be greeted by the wonderful receptionist, who is extremely helpful. Upon your arrival you will be greeted and made to feel welcome and comfortable in their clean reception area. The hygienists are all so wonderful - extremely knowledgeable and gentle - making cleanings comfortable. I have been going to Dr. Dang for a few years now, but today I needed something more... I had really bad tooth pain and in I went. The tooth was cracked and in the end it had to come out... Amanda, Mimi and Dr. Dang did an amazing job of taking care of me, fitting me in and making sure I was okay throughout. It's not easy when you have a broken tooth and are desperately poring over the list of dentists your insurance works with. After seeing a lot of sketchy places on the list, or calling and getting receptionists who clearly didn't care, I stumbled upon Dr. Dang and his team at Bathurst-Dupont Dental. So glad I did! Not only was my tooth easily fixed, but Dr. Dang gave me about the most thorough dental exam I've ever had. He discussed all of his findings and recommendations with me, and even asked for my input on the treatment plan (i.e., does this work for you, etc.). Speaking of treatment, he's very conservative in his approach, which is nice because so many dentists will try to push unnecessary services like whitening treatments. He noted a couple things to monitor and gave me some advice to help get rid of a small cavity without needing a filling. Also he's genuinely pleasant and was sincerely apologetic when he was running slightly late. The office staff are great too, and it was extremely easy to make an appointment--they're super responsive via their website. The office itself is in an older building in the Annex, one of those with a lot of doors and stairs and twists and turns, but it's well-marked to get to the office. It's not the fanciest place but certainly not sketchy, unlike a lot of other dental offices in the neighbourhood. Highly recommended. read more

"Wonderful experience". I have hated going to the dentist for as long as I can remember. The trauma was such as a child that my mother would never tell me when we were going to the dentist. However, when we turned that corner and realization struck of our destination all hell would break loose. I would scream all the way to the dentist, in the dentist office, on the dentist chair and all during the appointment until we left and I was sure we were not going back. My phobia for the dentist did not improve through the years and my reluctance impeded my ability to do preventative oral care. I visited the dentist only when I had no other alternatives. I. Had. No. Choice. I developed an infection in a broken root canal. The infection further advanced into a fistula and erupted draining into my mouth. To say I was in pain doesn't cover the half of it. I know I had to go but I was scared. I googled dentists and started reading reviews to get a sense of whom I should choose. It may sound crazy but in this case it really helped. I clicked on Bathurst-Dupont Dental and read the reviews on Dr. Matt Dang. I felt reassured by what I read and made the call, two days later I was in his office. He examined my tooth and took an x-ray and told me what I suspected, the teeth had to be extracted, it simply could not be saved. I expressed my fears and he listened. I was concerned because it meant that I would have to have my gums cut as the teeth had broken in such a way that there was nothing for the dentist to hold onto in order to extract it. After listening to my woes and reassuring me, Dr. Dang gave me a referral to Dr. Tom Manh Nguyen. He also gave me a digital copy of my x-ray that I could simply forward to the Dr. Nguyen myself, how cool is that. It was a refreshingly great visit and I like that he just listened - one of the best character traits in a dentist, the ability to listen and be empathetic. Thanks Dr. Dang. read more

My family has been going to Bathurst-Dupont Dental for the last 3 years and we couldn't be happier because the staff are so good to us! I wasn't happy with my last dentist who I had for 13 years! So, I really wanted a fresh start for my 2 young boys, and to find a good family dentist who they would be comfortable coming to see as they grow up. Dr. Dang is very caring and gentle with them, which really put me at ease as a parent knowing they are in good hands. I don't like going to the dentist myself, but Dr. Dang is very patient and always explains what he's doing. He's very knowledgeable, but at the same time, he talks to you and listens to what the patient says, which is very important to me and kind of what I was looking for in a dentist! The office is beautiful and has a nice modern feel. The staff are very warm and friendly and make you feel welcome...no crusty secretary! Dr. Dang's wife recently joined the practice too. I've only had her once, but she is lovely and it was a good experience. So, I definitely recommend this dental office if you are looking for good quality care, which is hard to find these days! read more

I was really happy with the service I received from this dental clinic. I went in for the "first visit" appointment, which included a cleaning, xrays, and a visit with the dentist. Everything went very smoothly. I've had some rough, painful cleanings in the past, but the hygenist was awesome and it was a comfortable experience. I didn't get to see Dr. Dang for too long, but when we met he was kind, personable, and knowledgeable. Would highly recommend! read more

EXPENSIVE AND PAINFUL. I live in Europe, I'm from Nova Scotia where I have a wonderful dentist, but in visiting Toronto I thought I lost a filling and went to "Dupont-Bathurst" for a checkup. While I was at it, I asked to have my teeth cleaned. I called about a dozen other places and couldn't get an appointment so was happy when Dupont-Bathurst said they had an opening the next day. I told them the situation and provided all my information. I was examined by Dr D who seemed nervous. He examined the location where I thought I'd lost the filling (upper left) and said he was pretty sure that everything was okay. He asked his assistant to double check and went through each tooth on that side with her. She agreed that it was okay. I wondered why he would ask his assistant, presumably not a dentist, to confirm his opinion, then I thought maybe he was a student dentist. I delicately asked whether the filling could have been from elsewhere in my mouth and he seemed to jolt to attention, as if he'd not thought of that possibility. He examined my other teeth and said they looked fine but that if I wanted to be sure I should have X-rays done. I didn't particularly want X-rays as I think this is usually a money-grab by dentists and I thought, shouldn't he be able to do a proper examination of my teeth to find out whether a filling is missing? Well, he didn't seem that confident so I agreed. Again, there were no indications of a lost filling but he checked, double-checked and triple-checked. He charged $90 for that consultation and $47 for the X-rays. Then began my teeth cleaning, in another chair, with a hygienist. The first half hour involved collecting information. She - literally - measured the gums for every single tooth in my head and entered the information into a computer. This took so long, and I was wondering whether I was going to be charged extra for it. Then she showed me her results and while I sat imprisoned in the chair she lectured me on what I should and shouldn't do, flossing technique, brushing technique, angles of the toothbrush, the whole nine yards. I told her I only wanted a cleaning but she said "it's protocol." I also had a neck and face examination which was part of this "protocol." I told her I was just visiting Toronto and unlikely ever to be coming back to the dental office but she said, "it's protocol." I had no choice. Eventually, she started cleaning my teeth. I've had my teeth cleaned, throughout my life, probably 60 times or more and never endured anything so painful. Instead of scraping off the calculus with an instrument, she used a small drilling apparatus that makes a high-pitched screaming sound. The worst part was that she kept jamming it into my gums. I have a very high tolerance for pain - I've had cavities filled without freezing - and never experienced anything like this in a dentist's chair. I told her, very nicely, that she was cutting into my gums and she answered, snarkily, that she could ask the dentist to freeze my mouth. I was thinking: are you out of your mind? Freeze my entire mouth (at what cost, I'd like to know) for a basic teeth cleaning? I told her absolutely not. She went back to work with that horrible drilling and the pain only got worse. In addition, she wouldn't pause so as to let me relax my jaw, which was cramping. I put up my hand several times to get her to stop and told her my jaw was cramping. She would stop and let me relax for a second, then resume without giving me any chance again, requiring me again to raise my hand in alarm. When it came time to spit, I spat out a whole mouthful of blood. I also noticed that the tray of tools had visible blood dribbled across it. Do you know how much blood has to be in your mouth in order to soak an instrument to the extent necessary to dribble across a whole tray of instruments? I was in her chair for almost an hour altogether, about twenty minutes of that time while she tortured me. My eyes were literally watering with the pain. She didn't floss my teeth, which was a surprise because every other time I've gotten my teeth cleaned it included flossing. By this time it was nearly noon and, I suppose, she was anxious to go to lunch because she rushed through the polishing, skipping around the front of a few teeth, missing others and just finishing. I was only charged a half unit for that. I was so happy to be done I couldn't get out of the place fast enough. The bill: $320.00 - for a checkup that lasted 10 minutes max, and for a teeth cleaning from hell. They did give me a discount for not being insured. There's a reason some dentists have openings. If you have children you care about, I'd consider elsewhere. read more
