When my friend and I were in the Saint Joseph area this past weekend, we wanted a really good cocktail and this place was on a few lists so we had to try it. This was formally the Tiger's Den, but the new owners have shortened the name to The Den. If you haven't been here since it changed ownership, you must stop by. It is cleaner, updated, and they have a ton of custom drinks you can only find there. The specialty drink menu changes every month, and of course they have their usual drinks as well. I highly recommend the Butter Beer, a whiskey drink that sort of tastes like a root beer float with a kick. I also like the Pilot, another whiskey based drink with a burning cinnamon stick that looks like a cigar. Delicious. read more

Such a great bar and book store in the middle of downtown. It's decorated super cute for Christmas. They have special drink menus at Halloween and Christmas time, with a solid menu other times of the year. GO to The Den now. Business is down because of some infinite construction hell going on around their entrance. They are OPEN, the space is adorable, and the bartenders (looking at you Maddie and Christine) are tops! Loved our first-ever visit this evening. Really, the space is lovely--elegant, without being stuffy. Apparently it was renovated a few months back in a mind-blowingly brief five-day period. My husband and I had a drink apiece. It's September 1, so the first day of this month's all-new menu. Mine had tequila and grapefruit something. A touch of jalapeño made it a little sassy. If we lived closer, I'd've enjoyed a couple more. My husband had "My Job is Drink," which was refreshing and also delicious. I love that they change the menu monthly. Brilliant! I'd read online somewhere that you can have outside food delivered. RC's Lunch Car did not disappoint. We got tacos, a Cubano and some loaded fries. Maddie assured us the food was good, and she was right (always believe your bartender when they're talking food). It was also delivered super fast. We really enjoyed The Den. Great atmosphere, yummy drinks, excellent food delivered for the lazy, and fun bar staff. Go visit this great place! Tiger's Den is a great break from the typical bar scene in Saint Joseph. There's no televisions on the wall blaring random sports games or jukebox playing overproduced, anti-intellectual bro-country. Instead, The Tiger's Den is half a unique bookstore, with shelves of books lining the walls, and half craft beer and cocktail bar. This quirky spot in downtown Saint Joseph is hidden gem and a cool place to have unique beers, custom cocktails, and fine wines. read more

As anyone who has been to St. Joe knows, there isn't a ton to do here - but they're definitely trying! This is the sort of place that would quickly become my favorite if I were a local. The drinks are Kansas City prices but are absolutely worth it, with high-quality alcohol and housemade ingredients going into every drink. And the atmosphere is great! Great little bar tucked away that isn't overrun by young drunk people. I've only been once but I had a great time! It was quiet enough to read or carry on a conversation, and they had plenty of signature drink options. It was a tiny bit more expensive that what I'd normally pay for drinks, being that I'm 23 and am used to cheap alcohol options, but this place does a good job of giving you what you pay for. I ordered two drinks roughly 8-10 dollars a piece. Both were good and very strong, definitely giving me my moneys worth in my opinion. This place has a lot of character and I can't wait to go back. One of my favorite local spots that is highly underrated by the community it is in. read more

Great little business started by a great couple. Innovative, unique for the area, combination of drinks and a second hand library. Quite laid back and welcoming. I'm not interested in the drinks myself, but I hear they are very good. I show up more for the Trivia Nights they have held consistently on Monday nights for several months. I drink my pop and get schooled in how little it turns out I know. And it is a great time. I don't know how long the Trivia nights will continue, but if you have a chance, I strongly recommend you check it out! read more

Whilst visiting St. Joseph, Missouri for the Total Eclipse of the Sun, we stumbled upon this treasure. It is a welcome den of progressive thinkers in the midst of a conservative American small town. The drinks were worth every dribble... and the atmosphere is cozy... combined with interesting books for anyone to grab and read... or perhaps purchase. Not knowing a soul, we ventured in and were greeted and chatted up by the owners... two forward-thinking hipsters aiming to treat their guests as family. Very LGBT friendly as well! I rarely give 5 stars on ANYTHING. This is not Simply an exception, the Tiger's Den IS exceptional. Located in recently thriving downtown St. Joseph, the Den is emblematic of what can be achieved with vision, great design sense, business acumen and a reputation for excellence. Owners Brian Myers and Amy Heath have earned their chops here. The book collection is priced well as are the bar offerings. Excellent wine selection, ( I don't drink beer but I hear it is equally good) and cocktails with a good pour. Home infused Vodkas round out the list of library libations! highly recommend!!!!!! read more
