My mom and I attended one of the events they host - cross-stitching cats led by instructor Tiffany Tzeng! There were only 12 seats available to be reserved/paid for in advance on their site. The space is beautiful and cozy for the cats around. Mary, the director, briefly introduced us to the organization, the mission, and explained their careful interview process for matching cats with interested adopters, which they call "Tinder for cats" haha. The event lasted 2 hours and 45 minutes but it felt much shorter! The whole time, different cats (all available for adoption) would flop down on the long table all of us sat at and let us pet them. We had a wonderful experience socializing with the cats and the people around us and learning how to cross-stitch too! The Dancing Cat is a peaceful place where they have approx 6-12 cats that live in the space, just depends on how many get adopted and other factors. This is such a lovely and cozy place! It's a really spacious place so you can roam around to play with the cats, sit at the tables or couches, or look at the merch. They only allow max 10 people, which I really appreciate; the one in SF is max 14 people but the space is super small so it always feels crowded. I was part of the first cohort on a Sunday (12pm). Buster Pawsy was super social and wanted to say hi to me the moment I walked in! He then went off to sunbathe on the couch and didn't want to be bothered - he was grumpy and ended up scratching one of the guests, but staff was super good at making sure the guest was okay. Staff also noticed my cohort was quiet, so they encouraged us to play. Super knowledgeable staff/volunteers who were so welcoming! Most of the cats were chilling/napping in their hideouts during my time there. They became more active around 1pm, so if you want super playful or affectionate cats, try going around 1pm once they've warmed up. Highly reccomend to everyone, this place is really good. For a small amount you can spend an hour there with cats, pet them, play with them, even do work on your laptop while they walk around you. All the money go towards helping cats and so far this cat cafe helped over 1,210 cats get adopted, which is amazing. There are also events each Saturday like yoga, crafts, drawing. My boyfriend is a big cat person, and I wanted to surprise him with an opportunity to visit a cat cafe. There's not many cat cafes in the Bay Area, but I saw The Dancing Cat come up as a relatively nearby option. The pricing was great ($15 per person for an hour with the kitties) and the reviews seemed positive, so we checked it out. We arrived at 12 pm on Sunday, which was the first session of the day. The cats were absolutely ~adorable~ upon first arrival! Our host, Ellen, was super knowledgeable about all the cats there, and she acquainted us to each and every cat present. There were about ~10 cats in total. Some cats are shyer than others, but the ones that weren't so shy were fun to play with! Most of the cats are in the main room, but there's places towards the back where some of the super shy cats or cats the like to hide in nooks are located. There are numerous toys and treats available to play or give to cats! The cats during our session were all awake and moderately active. Ellen pointed us towards the bumblebee toy, and a number of the cats were super playful with it! Liquid and dry food treats were available, and they were helpful to get us closer to some of the shyer cats. Luckily there were not many people present during our session, so we got lots of hands on time with most of the cats present. The best part is that all these cats are up for adoption!! Trying to convince my boyfriend to adopt another cat, but he's not looking... for now haha. We went here during the afternoon so we only saw about 4 cats. Only 2 were awake and playing the other 2 were asleep. If you want to see more cats you can go in the morning or evening. There are a lot of cat toys to play with and some treats that you can give them. Employees were friendly and informative. There is even a small table with cat related items that you can buy like stickers, etc. I will probably go back to attend one of their events. read more

Check out these paw-some kittens! The Dancing Cat is a cute cat lounge located on 17th St. near Downtown San Jose. They don't have a parking lot, but there's plenty of free sidewalk parking in front of nearby residential areas. We paid $10 for a 1-hour session with the cats. Masks are required, and you can buy one there for $1 if you don't have one with you. The usual rules apply, don't pick up any of the cats but there are tons of toys for you to use when playing with the cats. I fell in love with a cat named Hula, he was super chill! The cats were super friendly and it was fun getting to play with them. There were about 10 cats total roaming around the lounge space or sleeping. Overall, I had a great experience here and it was also cheaper and less crowded compared to Mini Cat Town at Eastridge. Would definitely recommend! read more

I came here for one of their events (Mew-sic Night: Sitar and Tabla), and had a wonderful experience. It is definitely the perfect outing if you love cats and appreciate diverse types of music. The performers were talented, but also very friendly and good spirited in character, giving off a positive vibe the whole time. The music was creative and soothing, and the musicians even educated the crowd about their instruments and the purpose of their music (adding in some cultural and historical elements). They were very knowledgeable and eager to answer people's questions too. We were able to explore the premises, while interacting with and taking photos of the adorable cats lying on the ground or in cat tunnels, climbing towers or jumping on people's laps, or walking quietly from room to room. A lot of the cats hung out in the back rooms, small areas decorated with pet beds, cat accessories, and cute lighting. They all looked very happy, healthy, and well taken care of. The workers/volunteers were great too, friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The environment is amazing, well designed to be an oasis for cats (and cat-lovers), and with beautiful artwork lining the walls. I don't even own any cats and really loved this place. In fact, if you don't own cats, this a great setting to find a new furry friend. Street parking only, but we had no problem finding free parking less than a block away on a Friday evening. read more

I came here with my brother on a Sunday afternoon and it was a lovely experience! All of the staff there are incredibly nice and accommodating with any questions I had. They were more than happy to talk about the cats and introduce ones around us. The cats were pretty mellow during the time I was here and there weren't that many due to some being adopted recently, but there were some really sweet cats that loved being petted and it was fun to interact with them. The place itself feels so welcoming! There's plenty of natural light coming in and it's well-decorated to create a fun environment. So many toys and treats were laid out so ppl could interact with the cats in different ways and there are also a lot of cat-themed books for reading, which I thought was cute. There's a tiny station for tea and of course, lint rollers were provided too. They sell merch like stickers and clothes too! Unless they have built a ramp since then, it is not wheelchair accessible and not ADA Compliant. Because the facility was not ADA compliant I have not been able to visit during business operations. My boyfriend loves cat so I wanted to take him somewhere to play with cute kitties. I easily made an appointment online and payed the $15 entrance fee. The website kindly stated the hours where the cats would most likely be active. We decided to go on a Sunday at 1pm. When we walked in we were instructed to use hand sanitizer on our hands before entering. The volunteer was extremely knowledgeable and welcoming. She gave us the tour of the facility and introduced us to all the kitties. Idk if the cats can sense my wariness of them (I'm allergic to cats) but embarrassingly majority of the cats would move away from me when I try to pet them. This also happened when I went to another cat cafe . But unlike the other cat cafe, The Dancing Cafe offers a limited amount of treats to feed them so I was able to bribe them for love muahahha. By the end of our stay my boyfriend and I befriended 4 cats and we played with all four cats using a cat toy. The volunteer was happy to see me and boyfriend play with the cats in the back rooms since they don't get as much attention. I stopped in today with my boyfriend after making a reservation online. I am so happy I decided to come!! The overall concept of the Dancing Cat is amazing-- a non-profit to help cats get adopted. It was a very open and clean space, and the staff was very kind and answered any and all questions asked. They had cat treats you could hand out, as well as snacks for humans for purchase. Some really cute merch too! There are a BUNCH of toys and activities to engage the cats in. They also have a wall with info and pics of the cats available to foster and on site. We found this place on Instagram. We reserved a spot online . 2 adults and a child was $40. We got to our appointment and there's only street parking. You have to have a mask or buy one there. You sanitize your hands and walk in. The person who worked there was very helpful and informative. There's a huge room where there's a big table. You can actually bring something to eat or drink. There's cat toys all over and cats are everywhere. There's a big couch you can sit at. The decor is really cute. They have a really clean bathroom. There's another room. It's a quiet room. You have to be really quiet. Most cats are sleeping there or are more scared of people. This is a great place to start if you want a cat. My four year old interacted very well and this is how we are deciding to move forward with getting a cat. The only downside is if you're not in the same area you can't adopt a cat there. First time ever at a cat cafe! I heard about Cat Town in Oakland and KiTea in SF, but I was thrilled when I found out a few weeks ago that a cat cafe exists in SJ. I live in Fremont so Oakland and SF are both a trek for me. I have been a cat lover my entire life and have been dying to go to a cat cafe ever since I heard about Cat Town when I moved back to CA in 2016 (I had no idea they existed until then). I came here on a date at 5 PM and the cats were awake and friendly with visitors. The owner Ann was very informative and welcoming. All the kitties roaming in the main area were adorable, though I especially loved Juliet (black and white) and Bluebell (she's black, but my love for her stems from my naming my car Bluebell - unlike the cat, my car is BLUE). Admission is $10 per person for an hour, and coffee and tea are free. Snacks and sodas can be purchased. The neighborhood isn't the best and the place can be easy to miss but luckily I could park on a side street. I've heard that the best times to go are late in the afternoon or early in the morning as the cats are awake. Any place that provides a loving environment for cats gets my business, feline therapy for me and five stars. I'd love to adopt but I may be looking at various moves in the future related to a career change, which wouldn't be conducive to a cat's well being as cats don't like leaving the comfort of home (especially in a carrier, and I'm speaking from experience). Maybe when my life is settled I'll give one of these sweet kitties a home. read more

I loved every second here! The staff here are really chill and friendly! The awesome lady in the Santa leggings was extremely friendly but also knew how to leave you alone to spend time withe the cats. She introduced us to the kitties and told us a little bit about them. I've had experiences at other cat cafes where staff are literally looking at you at all time and watching you like a hawk being nit picky on how to handle a cat. I didn't get that feeling at all here and I really liked the vibes here. It was so relaxing to be able to pick up a toy and play with the cats, pet them and sit there enjoying some tea or coffee while watching the little cats do what they do best. It's great that they made a sanctuary here for cats in need of homes and that they get to associate with humans before they find their fur ever homes. Located near Downtown on Julian and 15th, this cafe is somewhat small, ~12 people max occupancy, so reservations are recommended. The private event i attended allowed our group chillax time with the felines, and a group-activity; collage making! LOVE IT!! This cafe offers other social event like yoga, birthday parties etc, all for a very nominal fee. All the workers here are volunteers, and the cats are rescues (available for adoptions) I would recommend this cafe for people wishing to just relax in a peaceful environment, maybe work on a school report (and not in the mood for a cafeteria), or on the lookout for a new a feline friend. It's beautifully appointed, spacious and comfortable . There are plenty of toys to play with cats if they are willing, and a lot of spaces to pet them if they are quiet.
