Our server was very friendly and with such a small space, it was easy to get her attention. The location is very low-key, but fun! Reservations are an absolute must, because even the small counter is booked. I wouldn't plan to get full as you would for dinner, but the idea of some great nibbles, drinks and a fun place to catch up with friends is unique. And they have done it very, very well!

Marvol has an ambitious name and ambitious goal...and like its sister restaurant (the eponymous…read moreEllinor), a paradoxically unassuming location. And like Ellinor, many may double check their Google maps as they get nearer to the restaurant, wondering if they're in the wrong place. Unlike Ellinor, Marvol lives in a small, obscure corner of Appleton - it's not in an established neighborhood full of progressive diners with progressive views and progressive palates. And I love them for it. Sure, it may have just been a business decision to minimize overhead, but it says something bigger. It's an Appleton restaurant - everyone is welcome. True to the owners' approach to dining, Marvol's seating is more than cosy. It's intimate. You have to be okay with getting close to a stranger for the journey. Marvol's food doesn't disappoint. More important than the storybook plating and the flare, the food screams of excellent sourcing. Marvol's trout belly and roe, Kendall's greens, Wisconsin sweet corn and crab. Every ingredient can stand on its own - but they're so much better together. Whereas Ellinor caters to the many with mainstays and midwestern must-haves (red meat, burger, pizza with pork in it), Marvol feels like a small test kitchen full of new ideas. Some will land, others won't, but it's all part of the experience. It kind of feels like Chef Adam is inviting us into his brainstorm, where he jots down his ideas for the week on a notebook - and that's the menu. Though I had my favorites, I don't think going through them would help you. Because Marvol has probably moved on. All I can say is, you can trust Adam. Note: A huge selling point of Marvol is their drinks. I did not try any, as I don't drink alcohol. There is no official NA cocktail menu.

Stone Arch Brewpub - The giant pretzel is a must order

They have an upstairs tap room, an arcade, and a bar and restaurant downstairs. The service was all-around incredible. The employees were warm, friendly, and professional, and they seemed to know exactly how often to check in without interrupting our meal. They spaced out our drinks, appetizers, and entrees just the right amount. Our server Andrew was particularly great. We had a soda flight of their craft sodas for a super super reasonable price, and every single soda was spectacular. We're spoiled in the craft soda department by virtue of living in Wisconsin (Sprecher, Potosi, etc), but this was definitely the best craft soda we've had. Even the wacky flavors like blue raspberry were rich and flavorful--they didn't taste overwhelmingly artificial. I cannot recommend their soda enough, although I imagine their craft beer is pretty good too! We also had a delicious mocktail, which always goes a long ways in impressing us. All of our food was reasonably priced and so, so, fresh and delicious. The Bavarian pretzel with the beer cheese was heavenly!! We loved our entrees as well. Even something simple like the fries were perfectly done--fresh, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside I don't think we could have asked for a better experience. Everything we had their was top notch, and despite the number of things we ordered, our bill was not very high at all (about $50 for a mocktail, a craft soda flight and a soda pint, an appetizer and two entrees.

It was definitely not made in house. The salad was supposed to come with spinach but it didn't, but the server gave me spinach to add in. But it was really basic, for 16 dollars. I wouldn't say any food here was amazing. Come for the beer and atmosphere but eat elsewhere.

Seeing that Mr. Brews was open until 11pm (other spots close at 9 on a Friday night - what the heck!) we drove on over. Location is a little hidden but well-lit and ample parking! We were greeted with a fairly empty restaurant, except for a few folks at the bar and a few couples at both high and low top tables. We made our way to a table near the window and was quickly greeted by a friendly young woman. She promptly brought out waters, gave us time to search the menu and placed our orders within 7 minutes! I opted for an NA beer, which was served with an ice-cold beer glass - which paired nicely the order of cheese curds we started with! I chose the Kentucky Bourbon Burger Bowl - which All beef burger, shredded cheese, grilled onions, bacon, and crispy onions, served on a bed of greens topped with our Signature Kentucky bourbon mayo - YUMMMMMM! Everything tasted SO good, fresh and my portion size was massive. My husband chose the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich which he found to be underwhelming. The chicken was SO paper thin and almost nothing to it - which was surprising - so he was a little disappointed in the ratio. However, flavor was on point. Prices were reasonable and I'd return, when/if in Appleton again!

It's a bit (a lot!) hard to find, as one address sent us to Pick N Save up the street. I had to call them and still couldn't find them. They don't have a sign on the street yet.
