After waiting an embarrassingly long time to get a haircut, and after deciding I want to stop straightening my wavy/curly hair, I decided to get a haircut by a curly hair pro. When I booked a curly cut with Jennifer, the online booking system was straightforward and simple. I was nervous to get a haircut in this Covid-19 world but I was very comfortable with the whole experience. I waited outside the salon until Jennifer came to get me at my appointment time and once inside, had my temperature taken and was offered sanitizer. There were plastic barriers hanging between the chairs and it was easy to distance from the other stylists/clients. Now for the actual cut -- OMG was I ever satisfied with the result! Jennifer was friendly and took the time to find out my hair history and what I wanted to do. During the styling process I asked some questions and learned about caring for my hair properly. My long, fine hair that had been limp and barely forming a wave ended up hydrated, shaped, and curlier than I'd ever seen it before. On top of that, the salon was nicely decorated and spotless. Highly recommend! read more

I'm super upset after my appointment today. I have fairly wavy hair and wanted guidance on products to use and how to get the best out of my waves as I've always worn it straight. I walked out 45 minutes later, a limp, greasy uncurled mess, where I immediately went home to wash my hair again. Maybe my stylist didn't understand waves versus curls and didn't know you don't need that much product otherwise the waves get weighed down too much. You also do not constantly brush it as you're working on it. She really didn't seem to have any idea of how to help me get the most out of my hair. I also wasn't educated even though I stated I was looking for guidance. I couldn't believe it when she tapped me on the shoulder and asked if there was anything else she could do when I was basically sitting in the chair with soaking wet hair I basically paid $75 for nothing. read more

The Curl Lounge - How I left the salon - Hair Salons Near Me - Toronto, Ontario

My experiences for coloring my hair professionally and how i felt: 1. I stopped by to book an appointment with someone who does coloring. The receptionist assigned "Sydnie" to do the colour. Fee: $140/hour and it will take 3 hours to do. Total $420 for the process. 2. I met with her for a consultation ($50). It lasted 3 min and she did not touch my hair. She looked at the pictures of the colour i wanted to get and stated that she could do that. 3. Three weeks later, i went to my appointment and was very exciting about the new change that was going to happen! 4. During my coloring process, someone came in. I told Sydnie that i needed to go to the bathroom (less than 5 min) . I came back and she was cutting the hair of the person who came in. I waited 25 min on my chair with 2/3 of my hair with a product. As my head was only 2/3 done, i asked her if it was ok for me to wait like that. She stated yes. So i waited. 5. When the person left, she pursued on the coloring process to complete the other 1/3 of my head. She apologized for it only at this moment. I didn't respond. 6. When she bleached my hair, i thought that was the final color. I asked her if this was final. She replied no. 7. When the all process was done, I looked at my picture and my hair and told her that it was too dark. She said " I swear that it will be much lighter when you wash it. And if you don't like it , we will change the color at no charge". 8. I got home very annoyed and could not sleep. I was extremely disappointed about the end results. 9. Next few days , i met with the owner. Conversation: She said " This is not what I heard from Sydnie" . She said that " I was rude and aggressive with the employee" . I was shocked. The only time i talked was when i was waiting for my hair to be completed and when i saw my hair bleached. I would have NEVER be rude with anyone. I even called a friend to ask what should i tell the employee while i was waiting for 25 min with 2/3 of my hair with a product. Solution: The owner has colored my hair much lighter. Conclusion: Everything has to do with the person who has the comb! I made my decision on the fact that it is black owned and the space itself. I was wrong. My experience with the hairdresser assigned to me for coloring was terrible (She was doing someone else hair while i was waited 25 min on a chair with 2/3 of my hair with a product) and the result was awful (see photo). First time customer over here that will definitely be back! I'll start off my saying it's a spacious salon, simple but beautiful and modern decor. Everything looked very organized and I love how every hairdresser was a woman of colour #blackgirlmagic. I actually found out about The Curl Lounge as I was running errands in the neighbourhood and saw this pop up. As the obedient Yelper I am, I immediately looked up their reviews and noticed nothing but great reviews with pictures to go along. Also, the fact that they are active on IG, is a big sign to me of a business that is savvy and in with progressive business trends. I got their $80 Curly Cut Promotion which included dry cut, wash + treatment and wash and wear style. My hairdresser was Takeyce who I really cannot say enough great things about! She not only evened out my hair cut that I had years ago, she made my curls look the prettiest, softest and bounciest they ever have. Not to mention that she was super friendly, personable and made great conversation. I attached 2 pictures of my trim -- one that I took off of their IG story right after my trim, and the second is a closeup of my curls fully dried. The halo light was definitely a nice added touch because good lighting is important for headshots. I also love that I was served nice hot tea while I was getting my trim. I definitely look forward to coming back every 3 months for my quarterly trim . read more

Beyond satisfied with my first ever Bang cut!!! I actually came here after walking away from this other salon who basically turned down my bang cut request (which I know, makes no sense lol) and so I quickly found this location and am SO glad I ended up cutting my hair here with Keisha who immediately made me feel comfortable based on her vast knowledge in the curl types, face shape and up to date styles. Unlike this other location on Danforth that also "specializes in curls," it was just so effortless to get the message across as to what I was looking for (along with photos that I brought). Keisha "got"me right away. Her cut was so efficient and her explanation of what products to use and not to use was very helpful. I also got a deep treatment which was definitely worth it! My curls are back and my mood lifted as well!!! Everyone here were so nice and friendly and helpful even on the phone the receptionist was super understanding when I sounded very upset at that time. I will definitely be back for the bang trim and treatment!! read more

I hate leaving a bad review especially since I previously left a 5-star review but this, as in today at 10 am, would have been my second time going for a wig install with Mychela, except I received a cancellation call 2 hours before my appointment. Apparently, she is sick, but given she was also late to the first appointment which I didn't initially mind because the hair turned out fire, I am extremely frustrated because now, my hair is a mess and I cannot leave my room until I figure out what on earth to do now. I was given extremely short notice, and when I voiced my frustration calmly, whoever was on the other line was not sympathetic at all. Of course, I didn't shoot the messenger, as she wasn't Mychela and she wasn't the one who cancelled on me two hours prior but some empathy would have been great. I have an incredibly hard time believing she just suddenly woke up sick and had absolutely no inclination that she had the flu or cold or whatever ailment she has in days prior because *everyone* can feel a sickness coming on. It would have been nice to know that she was at least beginning to feel under the weather yesterday so I could figure out a plan B, but now I am left frantically begging other hair salons to do my hair because how am I supposed to go to class later this afternoon with undone hair? I was given the option to reschedule to SATURDAY, mind you it is TUESDAY, which I find absolutely preposterous. It's so unfortunate because I will never be booking with The Curl Lounge again. I don't appreciate having my entire day messed up and groveling to others and in a complete panic because I had a date planned later this evening but of course, that is now cancelled. Everything is cancelled. My entire day and potentially several days are now in chaos, and to describe my frustration in words is impossible. All of the stylists are very talented and knowledgable, but just know that if you are booking with Mychela, there is a chance your day(s) will be messed up too. Or, it could be great because she does really know how to install wigs and you'll get to see for yourself if she doesn't cancel suddenly on you. Flip a coin. What a disaster. read more

My stylist was very kind and nice and she did a good job on my hair cut but for the price I went in expecting for her to give me product recommendations and teach me how to better style my hair. I unfortunately didn't receive any teaching and even had to ask her what products she was using and how to use them myself. Im disappointed that for the price I paid I wasn't given any tips to style or recommendations for products for my hair. I also left with my hair still wet, I expected for it to be styled to 100%, and the stylist didn't give me any instruction for after the cut so had I not know I needed to scrunch out the crunch, I would have walked around all day with my hair crispy. I was disappointed that I was leaving without my hair 100% styled. Not worth the price for a curly cut in my opinion. If I was given tools, education, and recommendations, I would pay that price for it, but not just for a cut. read more

Not to mention, she used high quality products that were effective for my hair type. Everyone was friendly, the ambiance was peaceful and ultimately I felt taken care of.
