This place has gone down hill for a very long time. I was just there for the World Series game 7 and it was honestly the worse experiences at a bar in my life and I am 40. I have had a lot of bad experiences here and the customer service is horrible. This place was so great back around 10 years ago and slowly worsen as the years went by. They charged $50, which is fine, but not enough to get rid of the rift raft that were there just looking to cause trouble in which I witnessed multiple times. They had 2 bartenders at each of the two large bars and it took literally 20 minutes to get a drink. I was served by the biggest jerk of all jerk bartenders. Dont know his name but he was a red head who hated his job and literally had something wrong with him. Everyone around me felt the same way. Put his dirty fingers in all the drinks as he poured. Nobody could ask a question without him giving a smart ass answer. I asked if any beer tubs would be open and he said, "How would I know, I'm over here. Why dont you look for yourself." The atmosphere was so bad, we decided to leave. Even after paying $100 for cover. Didn't care, we wanted out. So I asked the asshole red head for our tab to close and he ignored me. I asked again and he just flipped out on me to wait my turn. I told him to relax and I was just letting him know. He called me a few names and I returned the favor. He threatened to kick me out and I said I was leaving anyways, hence, why I was closing my tab dummy. Then he decided to say, "Oh, you think you are leaving?" In which, he kept my credit card and license for another 15 minutes. When he gave me my check, he purposely over charged me $20. I challenged him on it and told him it was only me and my wife. I had only 4 beers at $10 a piece. You only give out two drinks per person, you do the math idiot. He reversed the charges. Even other people around me were amazed by him and some even told him a few choice words. This is all before the game even started!! I asked to speak to the manager about our experience and he actually gave our cover charge back and apologized. The manager didnt seem too surprised about what I told him about the red headed step child's games and the manager was very professional and understanding. As we were leaving, I saw him approach the bartender. I will never go back. This was the nail in the coffin. Sad, because I really enjoyed this place back in the day. If only everybody treated the customers like this manager did. To sum it up, avoid the red headed prick. Would love to get his name to expose him if anybody knows. He was one of those jerks who hides behind the bar thinking he'll have the advantage because he works there. I usually let things go but this guy needs to lose his job or get another profession. I went to Merkles and it was a blast. They treat you there with respect and the bartenders were amazing. It might be that I am 40 years old now and know how a customer should be treated. read more

We did NOT have a good experience here. My boyfriend and I came to Chicago for our first Cubs game from Michigan-and we wandered into the Cubby Bear before a Sunday game. Within five minutes, we had beers, and also, my boyfriend had his cell phone stolen. How? We sat down at a table, along side the bar area in the back-near the kitchen. The waitstaff walks in a small aisle in betw een our row of tables and the tables on the other side of that dining area. A couple had just vacated it, and we cleaned it off ourselves, no big deal... A table up in the bar area, just a step up above from where we were, but out of that foot traffic, opened up so we moved up there. My boyfriend got up to use the restroom. While he was gone, a member of the waitstaff stopped at the table we just vacated, and I actually wondered what he was doing, since we cleaned the table off, figured he was wiping it off, thought nothing else of it, we didn't know the phone was gone at this point...waitstaff guy walks back to the kitchen. Boyfriend returns from the pisser and discovers his cell phone is gone. We both run down to that table, search, and its gone. We immediatley told the staff, and they were helpful, one of the bouncers and our waitress went and told all of the bartenders and other bouncers that he'd lost it. The waitress assured us that it could not have been a staff member that took the phone-because there are "cameras all over this place". And, that "no one there would do that kind of thing". Well, anyone who's ever worked in a camera monitored envrionment knows where the cameras point and where they cannot see. We looked around and only saw two cameras in our area, none we anywhere near the table where we were. She also mentioned "managers watch the tapes." So, then, we asked to speak to a manager, and if they would watch said tape for us? The manager came over and essentially repeated the same schpiel the watiress gave us. Suggested we keep calling later on to see if it was turned in. But would not "watch a tape". Probably because, the cameras are fake-or dont work-or both. Or, she knows they do not record the area we sat in. They didn't even comp us a beer, or anything. We would not return here, period. Nor would I reccommend it to anyone, period. Having the phone stolen was a major buzkill for our first Cubs game, but we still managed to have a good time. Sad that dishonest people ruined a bit of our afternoon! read more

It was my absolute misfortune to step into this toilet of an establishment over the weekend. It was really disappointing considering the band that was playing was great, and the stage and sound were decent as well. First ponderable that ran through my head -- why are the floors coated with such a thick layer of sticky substance? I'm assuming it's residue from the sleaze that oozes out of the employee's pours all day and night. I shouldn't speak bad about the employee's though, because I really do appreciate the fact that this establishment hires the mentally-handicapped. I understand that the bouncer's minds are underdeveloped and that they don't know any better when over-stepping boundaries, but the management should really consider training them before putting them in a position of such "awesome power". Perhaps leash train them and change their diet as well, that could account for their complete miserableness and anger. One of the bouncers was particularly under-qualified. Not sure of his name, but he had the build of a bowling ball, perhaps more of a chode, considering his height to width ratio and bald head. This specific bouncer should undergo kennel training as well. Good thing they require a 3-drink-minimum, because this should cover all the expenses that they will incur when hiring a quality animal trainer. Glad that I had the opportunity to help their broke-asses out. Really hoping that they invest in a Swiffer now. read more

I spoke with manager Robert today after the Cubs game. He assured me in no uncertain terms that the rules are more important than people and that customers will not be valued over money. We are lifetime Cubs fans and brought several lifetime Twins fans to Wrigley today, one of which was a cancer survivor. Going to Wrigley was on his bucket list, we helped him cross that off today. Even though he's 57 years old, he was not allowed in because he, being a hillbilly from Minnesota, didn't think to bring his id. I understand that the rules are the rules so too bad we'll go somewhere else. I insisted on speaking with Robert even though he literally walked away from me the first time I approached him because I wanted assurance that a person/customer will be valued even if the rules can't be bent. Robert assured me I should have no such hope. "We are all lifetime fans", and walked away from me again. I'm sorry to say neither I nor any of my very large Cubs loyal family will ever patronize this establishment again. I'll be sure to pass this experience on to my friends as well. read more

This event was verging on FRAUD on behalf of Ticketmaster, Cubby Bear and Q101. The Ticket said 9pm for show start, the Cubby Bear said 9pm for show start. Q101 advertised this as starting at 9pm. So - - The Cubby Bear opens up the doors at 8pm, all staff, all signs say the show will start at 9pm. Soon enough it's 10pm, then 11pm, then MIDNIGHT. Metric finally shows up at approx 12:15. Evidently this start time was known to both Q101 and THE CUBBY BEAR. I will NEVER EVER go to see another band at THE CUBBY BEAR. Even though the band supposedly had no control over this (according to their people) - I think that is also total b.s. and I am now soured on one of my favorite bands. They can forget me going to another show again. They were actually letting in people for FREE because of all the WALK OUTS from people who PAID for this P.O.S. show/event. TERRIBLE. I want a refund but you know that's not happening. This is a lesson to never frequent any of those associated with this event ever again. Q101, The Cubby Bear and Metric = you are dead to me. read more

PLEASE BE CAREFUL! I was there on 3/16- afternoon for St. Patrick's Day- I ordered 2 beers from a bartender located in the back and I payed cash. I wasn't even finishing paying him and he start SCREAMING at me about that I need to pay him a F____king - TIP or he is going to kick out me and my friend. My friend just walked up and couldn't believe what was happening and she got scared. He then proceeded to get out his walkie talkie and was yelling to have us both removed from the bar because we didn't pay a Tip- (which we always do) ! He didn't even get us a chance -I don't know if this gentleman was on drugs, overworked, mental illness -but this anger and behavior was unacceptable. I then proceeded to talk to a woman manager who didn't seem to acknowledge what I was saying- because this bartender should have been fired on the spot! I regret not taking a picture and a video of this situation or called the police - I have never seen anything like this! I'm shocked they would even hire someone like this! read more

I agree with the rest of the fans that got "TOOK" last night @ the Metric concert. Total crap and I'm pissed beyond belief!!! I don't blame Metric however, it is not their responsibility for the advertisement of the show it's Q101 and Cubby Bear's fault. Who the !@#$#% schedules a weekday show for 12am? I agree that I would not have bought the tickets had I known the start time of the show. I think the station and the venue knew exactly what they were doing and we bought it hook line and sinker. After everything was tallied up for the night.....I spent $60 for 2 drinks because I left the show after I caught wind of the scam. I had to be at work at 7am today. I agree that money should be refunded along with an apology but I won't hold my breath. Thankfully I have been fortunate to see Metric several times so I'll survive but what a huge disappointment and waste of time! Q101 and Cubby Bear get your !@#$* together. So unprofessional!!! read more

Ditto for me with regards to the METRIC show. I bought my tickets two weeks in advance. I showed up at 7 pm last night hoping to get to front of stage. Sign said "Metric, 12 am, DJ whatchamacallit 8 pm". I knew at that point I had been had. While I consoled myself with the fact that $20 wasted for tickets was a whole lot less than if I had paid $35 PLUS Ticketscamster charges, the fact remains this was a true case of false advertising. Yes, the tickets have a disclaimer that say "Dates and times subject to change" but that does not make for good business. I am disappointed overall and I can only point my anger at the venue and Q101. They are the ones who advertised it up and down Chicagoland (e.g., yesterday's RedEye still said 8 pm show) so I direct my ire at them. I will never step foot into Cubby Bear ever again. Kiss my dollars goodbye, Cubby Bear. read more

been a few times.. not a bad place .. they have a decent ratio of guys and girls which is a plus..there are nights when it is packed and nights when its empty.. either way i never seem to have a good time or a bad time there.. always just an "eh it was okay" time.. i hate that people still allow bars to make you pay covers and this place charges one.. i guess all in all if i want to hear a good cover band, dance with a bunch of tube top wearing girls.. and have a GOOD time, i'll do it for free at a bar without a cover and a better crowd like Uncle Fatty's .. The Cubby Bear although it has been well established and around awhile could learn a few things about service (like bouncers who dont act like they are cool cause they are bouncers and dont talk to you like your still a dumb 21 yr old)and overall good times from too many other good bars in the area. read more

If you are a d-bag from the burbs or a tourist, you'll probably end up here, because this is all you know... But this is hands down the worst bar in the Chicago, game day or not game day. Married couples who go out twice a year getting trashed out of their minds, barely legal drinkers unable to handle their booze, and scumbags posing a ton of attitude. There are way too many fights, and people who cant handle their booze. Also, having lived in west lakeview for over 6 years, I keep hearing stories about people getting their coats stolen at this joint. WTF is up with that garbage!... There are a million bars in the city, pick another one to enjoy your time, you'll thank me later. read more

To all METRIC FANS and CUBBY BEAR PATRONS, On behalf of Cubby Bear Chicago, I'd like to apologize to all fans and patrons who attended the Q101 "Twisted Aftershow Party" featuring Metric on Wednesday, December 16 and unknowingly waited until midnight to see Metric, thinking the band was going on at 9pm. Please know that we would like to make it up to you by offering you two free tickets to show of your choice between now and December 31, 2010, with Metric ticket stub or Ticketmaster receipt. To redeem this offer with your proof of purchase, please email kim@ravenswoodevents.com. Thank you for your continued support of The Cubby Bear in 2010! read more

This is how the door staff will treat you at the cubbie bear. This doorman was calling a friend of mine (who happens to be white) a racist slur that starts with N and it is caught on camera doing just that. He is also initiating a fight once he got off of work with a patron. What is not captured on camera is a doorman trying to throw me to the ground as I tried to capture the attention of a friend leaving the establishment. Cannot believe this is acceptable in 2017... especially after the chaos in Charlottesville. How dare this doorman use this language especially with everyone on staff videoed here accepting his disrespectful candor. read more

Me, Myself and I is right.... The Cubby Bear IS the Fraternity Date-Rape-Testosterone-Sports Bar-Over The Top- Watch Out For People Throwing Up On The Sidewalk - Experience. That is why so many people love it. I did like like 7-8 years ago when I was 22 and drafts were $0.25 and wings were $0.10 each on Wednesdays. I am older and wiser now so I tend to avoid the place like the plague. However, if a young kid who has on a flipped up polo or a track pants on and looks like he has to prove his manhood by drinking and yelling asks me where to go...I send them here. read more

For Salsa dancers Cubby Bear on Sunday nights is one of the best spots in town. The better parts are: quality live music and the start time: 9pm so you can get home at a normal time if you need to go to work Monday morning. You can also get a superb lesson by a Latin Street Dance Studio instructor. The negatives are: music may get a bit too loud. A notch down and it would be perfect. Another negative, on some nights the floor is too sticky which makes it difficult to dance. The food and drinks are quite good. I recommend this place! read more

This place gets ZERO stars from me! After dropping $ in this establishment, we were asked to leave. Why? Unsure, but best believe I will never step in that place again. Rude, stuck-up bitches as bartenders! Their monkey based "security" staff think they are the greatest on earth! Very quick to put hands on people, just because. Won't fight alone, but are willing to jump on a single person when it's at least 2 of them. Anyway, there are by far better bars in wrigleyville to go to other than this zoo. read more

Its like a warehouse to store drunks! Hey, I lived in the area, thanks for taking them off the streets. And paying $5 for a can of beer?!?!?! Nowhere else can they get away with that! It should be a crime. But if your drunk enough to pay that price, and im sure their market analysis figured that out, then all the best to them. It's a moderately good time inside. If you are single, and desperate to date, you will always get hit on in here! You could probably get away with looking like Sasquatch. read more

I'm sixty years old and they threw me out for sitting on the steps away from everyone. They had taken all the chairs and tables out and refused to let anyone sit down even on the steps away from everyone and everything. I told the bouncer I'm sixty and needed to sit down for a few minutes. He threatened to call the police if I didn't get up. I said go ahead. He then pulled me up and started pushing me out of the club. He never even asked if I was okay or anything. read more

Had a great time with some new friends that introduced me to Cubby Bear. I'm new to the area and was very happy with the type of people here, the staff was all pretty nice overall. My neighbor that took me here was part of a special event so that was a little extra nice to get to experience the place without the bigger crowds that appeared later in the evening. High energy level though out the place - from patrons to staff - very cool. read more

Well I guess I gave it 1 star because it was a Sunday (Game Day) and they would not let Minors in. And the minors being my children (7 & 6 years old). I mean it's friggin' Sunday and a Day Game and you reserve the place for drinkers at 10:30AM? Well as much as this place may be a Chicago Institution, F.U. Cubby Bear, you catering-to-drunks-on-a-Sunday-douche-bags. I will never enter your establishment, even without kids. read more
