I am updating my review because I suppose this place was subsequently shut down for a two week (deep) cleaning. Had to find out on the Joliet patch website ... Finally got to come here... Firstly, this place is like very reminiscing of a mother's / family members basement. It's nice and cozy. Came here in the middle of the day, and the crowd here is mainly middle age people. It's got an outdoor area. It's quiet and it may be sketchy on the outside its amazing on the inside! Things look really modern and great! Even the bathrooms. It's got food, pool tables, slots, darts. Plenty of parking too. I actually recommend this place and would want to come here more!

Northside Burger was great. With beer battered onion rings.

Ordered the Northside Burger. It was awesome. Cooked perfectly medium rare. A lot of nice char. Changed side to onion rings. Very good too. Looking forward on returning to try something else for lunch.

I think security waiting on me..

They may have a plumbing problem.... The smell of sewage slaps you in the face the second you walk in the door.

Not a very good crowd or good service from a bartender trying to serve eighty people. The food is cheap on Sunday for a reason as it is bad.

Now, having a restaurant option that is 5 minutes away is a welcome treat. We went in on a Wednesday evening. It was late, probably too late to take our kiddo out, but this time of year is busy. After a day full of school and sports, we needed dinner. Papa Magoos was on our way home, so we gave it a shot. I walked in and almost immediately wanted to leave. It was 8 p.m. on a Wednesday night, there were maybe 15 people in the restaurant area, and there was a DJ blasting tunes loud enough that you couldn't have a conversation at your own table. Kind of an odd play for a Wednesday night, but maybe I'm just too old. Fortunately, we asked the waitress if we could sit in the side room with some video games - a much quieter area. Another couple had their kids there and all of the kids bonded over the hockey table. Service was great - our waitress was very attentive, honest about recommendations, and didn't steer us wrong. For an appetizer, we started with cheese curds paired with their ranch, buffalo, and marinara. Let me tell you - the cheese curds were a solid 8 out of 10 - but the portion size was huge. It's by far the largest order of curds we have ever received. I almost wished it was smaller because they were so good we ate the whole order - and it was just too much! All of the sauces were delicious. After those curds, my wife and I decided to split eight wings and fries, and the kiddo got a hot dog off of the kids menu. The bone-in the wings were served naked, as in just fried with skin on - no breading. The wings were enormous - and after those curds, we ate only two. We got four tossed in buffalo and four plain, with Garlic Parmesan and Mango Habanero on the side. The buffalo is a bit nontraditional looking, but it's excellent. The Mango Habanero was also nontraditional looking, but it was decent as well - but don't expect a lot of heat; it's sweeter, and the buffalo was hotter. The Garlic Parm was my least favorite, but it wasn't bad. We had to order a basket of fries on the side - which was entirely too much, but the fries are really good - straight cut, done a bit well and topped with some kind of salty seasoning and parsley. The kid's hot dog was not bad - it was served on a bun that was just a bit too big and fancy for my 6-year-old, and the hot dog itself was either overcooked or had a tough skin that I had to cut with a knife for him. Either way, it tasted good and came with a generous portion of fries. Two fountain drinks, a water, and a 20% tip came out to $60. It's not the cheapest, but that's the world we live in today. I could have saved $8 or so by not getting the huge order of fries with the wings. I've been taking a break from alcohol for a bit - but I did notice they had a slightly above par selection of craft beer on draft. Mostly IPAs, but at least it's not just Green Line from Goose. They had selections from Buckle-Down, Lagunitas, Revolution, and cans from Will County, among others. Don't worry, all your favorite macro lagers are here too. Papa Magoos definitely exceeded expectations - and I'll be back to try different things on the menu. Bonus that it's a short drive away in an area that is pretty much a desert of restaurant

My aversion was confirmed here at McBrides. I had a taste for a salad, and swung with a Wedge-how could they foul THAT up? (I soon learned exactly how) On a chalk board nearby I saw "Burger special $6". I'm not against dropping a coin or two for a good feed, but I've found a lot of places that look like this are akin to those coin-operated machines with a claw that you try to snag an expensive looking gift, only to have it drop just short of the hopped that delivers it to you. Close, but no Cicada... How could they foul up a burger? (I soon learned exactly how) The Wedge was weird-all the stuff heaped on top of the Iceburg slice, and the waste was...weird. Not bad or spoiled, just. Weird. The burger tasted odd, too. I'm betting it was out of a box. frozen as a penguin's ass. Y'know...penguin ass might have been the protein source for this, but I digress. (kidding, but that's how odd the "burger" tasted) I had a Guinness, which was properly poured, and a properly poured pint of the black stuff is worth 2 stars. The service was efficient and friendly and the place was clean. Eat somewhere else and stop here for a drink...

The atmosphere is more like a sports bar, but the food as we would learn is like that serviced at a fine dining restaurant. We arrived on a Friday night around 8:30 PM and were immediately greeted and seated. There were some patrons at the bar, and a couple of tables and booths were occupied. We ordered drinks and appetizers right away. V ordered the Basement Old Fashion and I ordered a Chocolate Martini. The drinks arrived first, and V made a face when he tasted his drink, the funny thing is, his comment was that it was all alcohol, the exact opposite of his typical drink review. I tasted his, but I'm not really a bourbon person, so I didn't care for it. My chocolate martini was ok, nothing special, but I've never had a chocolate martini I didn't like, so it was safe. We ordered Steak Bites (well done) and Capese Bruschetta appetizers. They arrived soon after the drinks. We started with the Bruschetta, which is a good-sized serving, six pieces piled high with cheese, tomatoes, more cheese (I'd swear), basil, and topped with a splash of balsamic vinegar. It was very tasty, and we cleaned the plate. Next, we tried the Steak Bites, I wasn't sure what to expect, but the steak was seasoned and cooked to perfection, the portabella mushrooms, roasted peppers, spring mix, and ranch were paired to make my mouth water for more. Both appetizers were quite good, but the steak bites were exceptional. As we were eating the appetizers, our waitress asked if we wanted anything else as the kitchen closes at 9pm (she thinks?). I was surprised by this as they're open until 10pm Fridays. At any rate, we ordered the baked Salmon entree for V and the Shrimp Po-boy sandwich for me. The salmon was offered with a couple of different toppings, V selected the lobster topping, basically it was smothered in a lobster sauce, and it tasted quite good. He mentioned how good the vegetables of the day were several times, so they must have been very good. He said his garlic mashed potatoes were fine, I tasted them and they were dry. That was the only true negative, they just needed a little more milk, or butter when they were made. I selected the Shrimp Po-boy, which came with fries. The fried Shrimp, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Pickle, and Remoulade Sauce on French Bread was really an awesome tasty combination. The pickle pulled it all together for me. The fries were flavorful and really hit the spot along with the sandwich. For desert, V ordered Carrot Cake. The waitress was on her game, and brought two forks :) The cake it's self was most and flavorful, the iciing was yummy. On the side they included thinly sliced strawberries with whip cream. The waitress was good, she was timely, friendly, and followed up after each course. In summary, presentation, food quality and quantity, as well as service were all top notch. The only true ding was that the mashed potatoes were a little dry. I cant take a star off for that. .
