The deal did not work out as I thought so this is a review from last November. ‐------------- It was a rough night we purchased tickets for the event in saint paul at the double tree and we decided into turning it into an evening. We booked a room at the double tree hotel where the event was and upon arrival we were told they were overbooked and had no rooms available. There will be another bad review coming soon for that catastrophe. But sat Nov 5th we had 2 tickets for one of thier events and after the hotel catastrophe we were like its all good we will enjoy the show then get another non hilton hotel. We wait in line with our tickets in hand that we purchased on eventbrite and we go to check in they could not find record of us. Talk about bad luck we showed them the tickets and after 10 minutes of interrogation like we were thieves trying to sneak into their show they told us they can setup a small table basically isolating us like the black sheep of the event. We were then told there was no food available because it was all pre ordered but we can watch the shoe and basically watch others eat from a far like if we were in the Christmas Caroll movie. After a while they were like we can get you guys a chicken meal. They must of called the chefs to see what scraps were available to throw something together for us. We requested a manager and well none were magically available. We asked for a refund and well because it's via eventbrite we need to request it from there. Well on eventbrite because it specifies there are no refunds now we have to fill out some sort of form and hope that the message was relayed from management to eventbrite to refund us. It was a very uneventful evening and this will cause lots of back and forth and phone calls to resolve this issue even though we were told it be simple. I doubt that this was even brought up to management and we were told anything just to get us to leave. Lesson learned ..stay away from shady hokey establishments that sell snake oil.

It was cool to kind of browse around the space as it was an old Firehouse. They kept some of the details in tact like the numbers on the "lockers", the sliding pole hole is still there as well as a few other things. I've seen a few shows here and have enjoyed each one. I appreciate the structural integrity that still shows its original use, a firehouse. There really isn't a bad seat in the house, which is great for viewing but the seats themselves are just OK. I'd say a 1.5 hour show is the max time I can sit in their seats without growing fidgety.

The security line at the front door can be a bit challenging on a cold winter day, but there are additional entrances through the skyway and side entrance. The seats are extremely tight, not much leg room and a bit uncomfortable after a while. I feel like the guides weren't very helpful at getting people to their seats. I I'm still not sure where they label the sections, I had to ask several people and that made some other people realize they were in the wrong seats/section. The lobby opens 1 hr before the show but the doors to be seated don't open until 30 min prior. I suggest getting there 15-20 min before the show starts for smoother entry. You will still have time to grab a drink and find your seats without the hassle of the pre show crowd. It was so chaotic. The drinks are spendy for what you get but they don't take tips so I guess it somewhat evens out. You can request a lid for your drink which for me is a must in these crowded spaces. Not my fav theatre but the if there's a play I'd like to see, I'd go here!

North Auditorium - twin Cities ballet Nutcracker…read more In 1989, I saw my first performance of The Nutcracker at the North Auditorium. Thirty-six years later, I brought my son back -- he's about the same age I was then -- hoping to share the magic of Christmas and the magic of The Nutcracker with him. When I called to purchase tickets, I specifically asked whether this was a classical version of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker, and I was told that it was. Because of that assurance, you can imagine my disappointment when it became clear that this was not a classical interpretation at all. The director took extensive liberties with this 133-year-old masterpiece to make it more "Minnesota." There was a wooden flute meant to imitate a loon, complete with a loon dance. There were Viking elements, a bird dance I couldn't make sense of, and a riverboat scene with fish. Were some of these moments cute? Yes. Were they Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker? No. If I had seen the riverboat dance with the little fish at a student dance recital, I would have smiled and thought it was charming. But when you are expecting the timeless classical Nutcracker -- first produced in 1892 and beloved for its enduring magic -- this reimagining is deeply underwhelming. To be fair, there were positives. I appreciated the relaxed sensory-friendly performance, especially as I have an autistic son. It was wonderful to see so many young children there with their families, and the little girls dressed in their ballerina-inspired outfits were absolutely adorable. The student performers did well, and this was clearly a meaningful experience for them. That said, I only counted about four principal dancers who felt at a professional level. The two principal dancers in Act II who performed the solos and duets were very good, and for a brief moment, I was truly captivated by their dancing. The set design, however, was lackluster -- it felt cheaply made and lacked the Christmas magic this piece deserves. Perhaps the production was working within a very limited budget. I did receive discounted tickets, and I'm grateful for that. Had I paid full price, I would have been very upset. This performance was not worth full price. I love theater. I love dance. I always wished I could have been a dancer myself and took classes when I was younger. I have friends who are professional dancers, now retired, so I understand what the arts can be -- the breathtaking, awe-inspiring, make-you-cry-and-you-don't-know-why magic of live performance. That is what I hoped my son would experience. He didn't. I didn't either. When it was over, I asked him what he thought. He shrugged and said, "Good." And that really sums it up. It was good -- but it wasn't great. It wasn't extraordinary. And it wasn't Christmas magic. If you have a friend or family member in the performance, I understand wanting to attend. But if you're expecting the classic Nutcracker and the kind of Christmas magic this piece is known for, you won't find it here
