    My single bed room!

A breath of fresh air for the wary traveler! I stopped by the Cowboy Bunkhouse about a month ago to get some rest after a long day of traveling and exploring. Normally, during regular season, the Cowboy Bunkhouse is a happening place for travelers and adventurers of all kinds. When I came though, I happened to be one of the only people in the whole hostel that night! The hostel is a converted school which has seen a few different uses over the past years. The owners wanted to make it a place that would be a tribute to the true cowboys and had fashioned the look and feel to reflect that. Pretty cool! My room was clean and had a passcode lock on the door to keep things safe (not that they needed to be). It was clean and just what I needed to get a good nights sleep. They provided a towel and even some soap for when I took a shower. The kitchen was also clean and everything in there was in good usable condition. I ended up cooking a giant meal to be eaten over the proceeding days. Very satisfied in that department! Even on departure they provide coffee and snacks to get your day started right. JoAnn and her husband really know how to treat their customers right! Overall, this place is awesome and I look forward to the next time I stop by. You will not be disappointed.

Stayed a few nights here in August on both ends of a rafting/camping trip through the Grand Canyon…read more I had an excellent stay both times - very comfortable and clean rooms, wonderfully warm staff, decent prices, and an incredible location inside the Vermillion Cliffs National Monument! It's a bit of a remote location (which I loved) but the lodge has everything you could possibly need - a really great on-site restaurant, general store, gas station, and they even do their own guided fishing trips and kayak rentals complete with backhaul drop offs to a launch point of your choice. And even though you're a bit of a captive audience, their prices are surprisingly pretty reasonable - even for the gas! The lodge is currently split into two sections - one has been recently renovated and one hasn't. I stayed in a double queen room in the renovated section and a single king room in the non-renovated section. Both rooms were spotlessly clean and very cozy - but I definitely prefer the renovated rooms - simply because they have a superior bathroom layout/shower - The shower in the non-renovated room was very rudimentary- almost like one you'd find in an RV - and there was very little counterspace. And the TVs include an option to log into your streaming apps to watch your fave shows. But the beds were both very comfortable in both rooms - the mattresses felt very supportive but not overly hard - seemed like temperpedic quality. The decor in the renovated rooms is very desert-cowboy-chic - but the non-renovated room was super retro - more like a 70s spaghetti western style lol. There are refrigerators and Keurig coffee makers in all the rooms - renovated and non-renovated alike. All the rooms have outside patio seating but it's not private. I was next to the restaurant in the non-renovated room and was worried it might be too loud but I didn't hear a thing - it was peaceful and quiet! Speaking of the restaurant- the food is absolutely fantastic! I ate two dinners here and a breakfast and loved it all. They also have a unique dessert - avocado pie! Highly recommend! Everything here is family owned and all the staff were friendly, welcoming, and very helpful. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and fully intend to return bc there's SO much to explore in the area - especially if you love the desert outdoors!

By far the best aspect of the lodge was the guide we hired to help us fish Lees Ferry. His name was Shane and he was incredibly experienced. It was my first time fly fishing and he taught me to cast, mend, and set the hook. We caught more fish before noon than I did on my last fishing trip. Shane knew every spot to visit to get the trout biting. The food at the lodge was also incredible. I ate one of the best patty melts I've had and the breakfast burritos hit the spot before a fishing trip. I also can't give the sweet potato fries high enough praise. They had the perfect amount of crunch and salt I look for in a fry with that same sweet potato taste. If you stop in; try the avocado pie! The lodge is absolutely worth a visit. Stay a night, try out the restaurant, try to book Shane if you can, and fish until your arm gets tired!

However, Jacob Lake Inn is open all year round. They have a cute store and restaurant on site as well as a gas station so there is everything you'd need. The rooms are clean and nicely decorated in a western/Grand Canyon/woodsy theme. For being out in the middle of nowhere, the hotel has all the same amenities you'd expect to see in a city. It's nice to have that in the middle of the woods feeling but without having to camp. The prices are reasonable and everyone working there is always super nice. Plus the history of the place is pretty cool too!

We sat in the dining room and the menu had unique options. Second time was September 2025. We sat at the counter. The breakfast options were limited, but food was good. Left with cookies in hand. Today, we had the worst breakfast and service I ever paid for. The eggs over easy were not edible. There was a very strange taste to them. The hash browns were just grated potatoes (maybe frozen) and over seasoned with salt, French toast was bland, and the toast had to be repeatedly requested. When it finally arrived, it was over buttered and cold. It was not from the fresh made bread I remembered just months ago. We left for the first time without cookies. I no longer trust what comes out of the kitchen.

There is a mini-fridge, a hair-dryer (new), a mounted TV, table and chair, AC/heating unit, and full walk-in closet. The staff is small -- by that I mean that the restaurant waitress also checked us in. She even let us do an early check-in. The wifi is actually really good. They gave us a password for the protected wifi which didn't work, but they have free, fast-speed non-password protected wifi. I'll be honest, the outside looks really terrible. But it's clear that right now, they're in the middle of some construction and are attempting to make some improvements. Walking inside, we were all much more comfortable as it looks like a regular low-budget hotel or motel. No bugs or anything like that, pretty normal. It's so conveniently located near the park and for anyone who is going to spend most of their time outside of their room and at the park anyway, this is a good bargain.

Check-in felt a bit like standing in a slow car rental line. We waited about 15 minutes while a line formed behind us, and there was a form with disclaimers to sign before getting the room key. Our room was in Building 7. The rooms feel dated, and housekeeping seemed inconsistent. We had 2 bath towels, 2 makeup towels, and 1 hand towel, but no washcloths and no pool towels. The front desk said pool towels should be in the room, but there are none available at the pool itself. Our bathtub drain was clogged, so water pooled during showers, and one of the bed frames had something unpleasant on the fabric that clearly should have been cleaned. Amenities were also disappointing for a property charging a nightly resort fee. The hot tub jets were broken, the water wasn't warm, and it looked pretty dirty. The pools are not heated, so they were ice cold in April. Ironically, the hot tub appeared to finally start working the morning we checked out. Food options on site include the Driftwood Lounge, a breakfast deli, and the Rainbow Room for buffet and dinner (reservations required for dinner). The buffet was just okay -- next time I'd skip it and order an entrée instead. The hot & spicy wings at the lounge were decent. Overall, I gave it 3 stars because the staff were very kind and the views are fantastic. If we stayed again, we'd come with the expectation of enjoying the scenery rather than the amenities.

Too much noise from upper room and hallway. The front desk folks need some hospitality training. I'm sorry you're busy but give each customer a bit of hospitality and common courtesy. I'm sure if this was our only destination and we took advantage of some of the on site offerings, it might have been different. As it was, we were just there to sleep and would have been better off at a chain hotel.
