Very cute cozy spot in Albemarle. We went for dinner in the winter and I would say it was a little cold in there and very dark. That was our only complaint. Everyone was having to pull out their phone flashlight to read the menus so I would just suggest maybe table lighting if they want to keep the low lights throughout. Ok on to the food... we had the rockafella oysters which were pretty tasty for an appetizer. And I had the catch of the day which was grouper over cheddar grits and shrimp etoufee. The food was well flavored and not too heavy. We also shared the peanut butter pie for dessert which we enjoyed. The staff was friendly and the drinks are strong. So we will likely return. read more

Nice atmosphere and friendly service. Salmon was good, but might have been better with a simple recipe of salt and pepper. Had a bbq flavor of sorts that was probably a bit overwhelming for the salmon. Cheese grits on the side were good. Daughter had the filet mignon which she said was perfectly cooked, though it could have used a bit more seasoning. Husband had the ribeye and unfortunately he was disappointed with the lack of flavor. The restaurant obviously aims to please and we didn't complain, just a little more seasoning and this would have been a five star rating. Also a little pricey. read more

OMG! My husband and I were in town celebrating our anniversary and decided to come here for our first night's dinner--best decision ever! We were completely blown away by how amazing everything was. I'm a chef myself, and when I tell you this place makes our top five restaurants of all time, I mean it. It's such a cozy, local spot with the nicest staff. We sat at the bar and Spencer, our bartender, was absolutely fantastic! My husband ordered the Butcher's Block special--duck with fig sauce and Brussels sprouts--while I had the ribeye with mashed potatoes and a squash-zucchini medley. We also tried the raw oysters, plus an Old Fashioned and the District 114 cocktail. Everything was a solid 10/10--food, drinks, service, atmosphere. Not a single complaint! Walking by, we stumbled upon this gem and are so glad we did. From the moment we walked in, the staff was warm and welcoming, the décor was beautiful, and the service was great. We enjoyed a selection of hot teas along with several desserts, and every single one was a hit. The pear bread pudding was perfectly spiced, the Biscoff cheesecake was rich and indulgent, the crème brûlée had that ideal crackly top, and the gingerbread cake was moist. Everything was beautifully presented. You can tell a lot of care goes into both the food and the experience. Such a lovely spot to relax and treat yourself. Way too dark and we went for an early dinner. It's nice to see that this restaurant is busy and even people waiting, left and returned to be seated. I had the blackened chicken Alfredo and feel it could have been cheesier and kind of bland. Hubby had the wagyu beef burger with short ribs on top. We had a great first experience. Busy Friday night, all tables packed so we waited at the bar. Staff were great and communicated the kitchen was a little backed up. such a hidden gem in albemarle! the atmosphere is great! the waitress was super nice and helpful with explaining some thing on the menu. we ate here for valentine's day to eat local. "catch of the day" was scallops with a creamy risotto for 35$ was well worth the price. the burger was 14$ and SO good...EVERYTHING we got to eat was homemade and delicious. the only complaint was the fries were a little overdone but it didn't bother me because i like them that way! 10/10 please go try this place in downtown!!!! read more

The shrimp cocktail appetizer was tasty and the cocktail sauce tasted homemade. With the appetizer being good we had high hopes for the food. The gumbo was bland and mostly rice with one piece of sausage. The salad came out with the meal, which kinda defeated the purpose of ordering a salad. The filet was not seasoned and bland, the fried chicken sandwich and fries (over cooked) both were very dark and tasted like old nasty grease, the seafood special of grouper was bland with no seasoning (asked for lemon to give it flavor and made it palatable) the zucchini and squash tasted watery and unseasoned. The waitress did not check on us much and we went without cocktails for long periods of times between rounds. The Pineapple Martini tasted like barely any pineapple and heavy on the Vodka. Boys said Old Fashions were good. Overall it is a small place with many servers, which you would think means frequent checks and faster service, but alas no. Other tables that came in after us got food before us also. Overall it was Meh. I much prefer 5 Points or Christines Woodfire grill for a quality meal and service. read more

Nothing fancy, but love! Fabulous food, amazing service. While we didn't order any entrees, we ran the gamut with starters: caesar salad, cup of gumbo, then appetizers (courthouse shrimp - A MUST!) and teriyaki steak, with brussel sprouts and truffle fries and a slice of raspberry cheesecake to go. Here's what's key - the place was packed outside and inside. We sat at a square high top, and as mindful as Mikaela and the kitchen staff were, every "course" was staged to perfection. Small table space, so salad and soup, followed by shrimp followed by sprouts and fries and then steak bites. Never felt rushed, instead, felt like we were the only patrons there. A few tips about the food and drinks: Shrimp: never better. Salad: fresh greens and light dressing. Brussels: to perfection. Gumbo: rich with flavor and lots of shrimp and sausage. Fries: crisp and not overpowered with truffle. Cheesecake: Not what I expected - had odd texture and tasted more like cheddar than cream cheese. Old Fashioned: light on the bourbon and heavy on the bitters. Mikaela exemplified being on top of her game - efficient, pleasant and mindful of needs - to the to-go cup of arnold palmer. Overall atmosphere inside - lots of tables, but not loud. Music in background was pleasant. Great bar setup. A few tables outside and little street noise. GO - you won't be disappointed. I've eaten here many times. I continue to go back because friends want to try. I always have good service, but the cook is a different person every time I visit. That makes the same dish inconsistent. If I find something I like, the next visit, it is different. And not always good. I'm not sure a $100 a couple is worth rolling the dice to get a meal I'm happy with. read more

hey uhh so my friend and i came in around 11:50-12:00 at lunch time, and our server came around and got our drinks but we didn't know what we wanted so we told her to come back, and she never came back.. we waited for like 45 minutes but our server never waited us, and i know we should have flagged them down but i mean, 45 minutes without checking in is crazy and we were already tired of waiting and were worried the food wouldn't even be worth it, so we left a $10 bill on the table and walked out. i probably tipped them well considering we only ordered two drinks, but i couldn't care less at that point. i've heard from friends working there that the management and staff relationships aren't the best either, but this was just my experience and it makes me hesitant to come back. read more
