A great shop filled with special gift items. I can always find a special treasure for friends, family, and of course, myself.

We paid in full for a custom vanity in late August after being assured that our project would be prioritized and completed quickly. Over the next several months, we repeatedly requested the progress updates and photos we were told we would receive. Instead, we were given multiple estimated completion dates that came and went without any product, updates, or supporting information. By mid-November--after more than two months of delays and asking for realistic timelines so we could coordinate with other contractors--we were informed that the business would not complete the project. The owner cancelled our order outright and issued a full refund. While we do appreciate that the refund was processed promptly, the cancellation caused a significant setback to our bathroom renovation, especially after we had already structured our broader project timeline around the commitments made earlier. We made a deliberate effort to support a local Annapolis business, but our experience was disappointing and disruptive. Customers considering custom work here should be aware of the repeated delays, lack of communication, and ultimate cancellation we encountered. This review reflects our direct experience and the impact it had on our project and schedule.

They are very professional, polite and patient whoever we're choosing items for our family's gift. My family loved their products too. We chose fresh sourdough bread, goat cheese with truffles, and another with figs and honey. Sounds yummy. A tasty white wine to go with the bread and cheese is a great accompaniment. Thank you AnneBeth. I appreciate you for having this establish for all. And it's all priced fairly. I'll be back and will tell friends and family about our experience. Marcia M.

East to find with street parking right across the street. The space is small, but they have a decent cross section of wine, beer and harder stuff. If you're thinking booze warehouse you will be disappointed, but if you prefer more human scale, you can find happiness with Annebeth. We needed a six pack for our dinner at a local crab house. We were able to select a mix and match half dozen of their mostly local brews, which our lovely shopkeeper was able to put together with transferable can clips into one unit. There appears to be other things for sale in the way of snacks and light lunches, but we didn't pay much attention to them. We knew we would be stuffed with Maryland Blues, chowder and key lime pie that night and were saving our appetites until then. It was cool to buy our night's beverages in a shop that might have been selling grog and heavy ales for the last 250 years!

Local by Design opened in May 2016 and I am so sad that they were not listed on Yelp prior to Annapolis' busy summer tourist season (soon to be followed by the busy Navy-football-games-and-boat-show-weekends season). This store is delightful and if I was an impulse shopper I would have gone broke today and filled my car with serene water colors, fun jewelry, transitional upholstery furniture, upcycled art work, practical pottery and pop art posters. Local by Design features the artwork of other 50 local artists that use all sorts of mediums. The art here ranges from super subtle, traditional and classic to zany, wild and fun. I enjoyed all of it! Even if you aren't shopping for something on your walls, there is plenty of other great stuff here for the home, for yourself and for gifts. Also, this store offers a little snapshot into the cultural icons of Annapolis and the surrounding area - USNA, sailing, steamed crabs alongside National Bohemian beer, oysters, blue herons, anchors, etc.

The store itself is large with three total stories of things to buy. Lots of cool things to look at and buy. Touristy stuff. The bakery section looked absolutely amazing. Lots of huge cookies, fudge, and candy-dipped apples. I was there for the cookies and couldn't decide which flavor to get so naturally, I got pretty much one of every cookie. It's nearly $17/lb for cookie costs and I ended up buying $55 worth of cookies and two lemonades. The cookies are decent. They'd probably be phenomenal straight out of the oven and warm. But I wouldn't go out of my way again to get these cookies. The lemonade was pretty good. I'd try some of their other goodies as so many things looked delicious. My main complaint was the lady behind the counter working. She wore a shirt that said, "From the bottom of my heart, idgaf" and this could not be more true. She truly did not care. She had an attitude and made the whole interaction awkward and uncomfortable. She had a snotty comment for everything. When she handed me my bag of cookies, the handle broke on the bag. I asked for a second bag so I could double bag it and easily carry it. She proceeded to tell me that the bag broke because I bought too many cookies and the bag can't support all of them. You'd think they'd want the business and the money. I definitely did not appreciate this grouchy lady. Maybe she was having a bad day, I'm not sure. But her attitude kind of soured the experience. I would be willing to give this place another try. I would love to try one of their caramel apples! If I encounter another rude staff I probably would not return.

They have two stores in downtown Annapolis and this review is for the business at 176 Main Street that sells preppy clothing with a touch of nautical. Brands like Gretchen Scott, Lilly Pulitzer and Vineyard Vines are sold here and I appreciate having a local option for nicer clothes, especially after Nordstrom went out of business in 2020. The store is always well organized and I do find the pretty displays beckoning me to come in and have a look. In addition to clothing they have accessories - scarves, purses, fashion jewelry, etc. My style isn't generally as preppy as The Lucky Knot but I have gotten a few fun plaid pieces here for the holidays. They key is to take the time to try it on and make sure you love it because the return policy is exchanges only.

Their customer service is also great (very helpful and friendly). They might have just what you need!
