Holy Smokes. This little gem is tucked quietly away in east Boulder and a total powerhouse. The Corner is a model for what gyms can do and be for their communities. Apart from all the work they do for charity (hundreds of thousands raised), Parkinsons, youth, elderly, marginalized groups (on and on), the gym rocks. I don't know how else to describe it. They've tapped into some sort of special magic that you won't find at other gyms in Boulder.
Fitness & Boxing: if you are looking for the usual ho-hum, putter-around, check- the-box kind of fitness, the Corner is not for you. If you want to get a soul-crushing workout and somehow leave with a smile wondering how soon you can possibly be back, then you will love it.
Clientele: Young, old, male, female, beginner, advanced, special needs, lizard (occasional dog)--it doesn't matter. Whether you are a serious boxer looking for deep technical training or just want to get smoked, the Corner has it.
Atmosphere: Even as a complete newbie, from the moment you walk in the music is rocking, people are pumped to get after it, there is so much camaraderie, encouragement, positivity, energy, and sense of community. Everyone is there to work hard, push themselves and get just a little bit better/faster/stronger each day. Such great energy. I know nothing about boxing (just want to get a great workout), but after 3 visits with Kirsten (1 personal, 2 group classes), now it's all I think about. GAH! So addicting. So motivating! I've tried Boulder crossfit gyms, CU gym, 24 hr fitness, Rally Sport. None hold a candle to the Corner.
Trainers: The coaches are truly masters at what they do in their own right and also great teachers. If you've ever done serious athletics, you know how rare that actually is--hard to find one let alone both traits in a coach. Kirsten and Carrie are the real deal. Everything they do looks effortless (even though it's really challenging). SIGH. Life goals.... they're at another level.
In sum: can't say enough good things about the Corner. Every gym should strive to build what the they have. Such an asset for the community. You'll leave the classes pretty much destroyed, but with little beams of joy bursting from your heart. read more
