We paid $540.00 plus tax for 2 nights mid week in July. This place wasn't worth it. It has great potential but not enough care or an investment have been made in it. There were no employees about the place; it was all self-serve. The walls and woodwork in our room were cracked and peeling, the shower and room floor were dirty and most of the all white linen and towels had stains on them. They had pillow shams on the 4 pillows on the bed, but no pillow cases. Most importantly, there was no smoke detector in our room, just an empty bracket. This was very surprising, given their experience with a fire in their place in 2023. The Brekkie place next door where we had breakfast included in the cost of our room was cold each day. I do not recommend this place and hope it gets better. read more

Wonderful stay at a charming B&B. Unlike the long dissertation on by Salem R. Justifying why she gave this B&B a one star review when she never even stayed there, I actually stayed a week with my three girls. Not sure why Yelp even allows this neuroticism. Location was good and central. The rooms were comfortable and very clean. Beds were Goldilocks firmness. Breakfast baskets were abundant and healthy. Owners Grant & John were very nice and knew all about the area with great recommendations. Wonderfully run local business. I look forward to staying here again. read more

This old hotel is in a great location and could be a fun spot but unfortunately, it is very dirty and musty. We can appreciate a place with character and history, but we were quite disappointed in our room. When we entered the room, there was broken glass on the floor and lots of other dirt and garbage on the floor and under the bed. The bathroom also had garage on the floor. The rooms had not been vacuumed or at least vacuumed well. The room was not cheap and for almost $400 a night, I would expect my room to be clean. It was especially upsetting to have broken glass on the floor as we were traveling with our kids and immediately took off our shoes. read more

This place is now called the Copper Swan. I really wanted to like it. It looked charming in the photos and despite the mixed reviews on different websites, the recent ones seemed mostly okay. But I couldn't tell you whether I would or wouldn't have liked it, because I never actually stayed there. I'd read up on the area and debated for several days over where I wanted to stay. I thought about a chain hotel but I like to have a local experience when I stay in smaller places, so I decided to go with the B&B option. I tried calling a number of times over the course of a couple days, but was unable to get through. The phone would just ring and then disconnect. On my last attempt before I was going to give up, John answered. I mentioned that I'd thought maybe they were no longer in business because there had been no phone connection for a couple days, and he said something that didn't make much sense about replacing his phone. He was very pleasant and we spoke a bit about the area and things to do. He gave some recommendations for meals and while he seemed a little distracted, he was chatty and personable. I hadn't planned to book immediately- this was meant to be more of an informational call- but he seemed friendly so I decided to just go ahead. I had reviewed the website and was aware that the property has a main house, as well as an out building, which is the Carriage House. I informed him that for personal security reasons as a solo female traveler, I preferred to stay in the Main House, and also that I had a service animal. While he still remained friendly, I immediately detected a very slight change in tone. Let me be clear- I have had a service dog for eight years. I am very well versed in ADA law and compliance. I know my rights, and I am not even required to inform ahead of time that I have him, but I do so out of courtesy. I've traveled extensively, and I know very well when someone is trying to evade compliance. It was very clear that John did not want me to stay in the Main House, as he kept referencing "dog-friendly" rooms in the Carriage House. There were two rooms available at a rate of $170 on the website, one in the Main House and one in the Carriage House. Again, I emphasized that I preferred to stay in the Main House for my peace of mind, but he pushed the Carriage House instead. His comments were really odd, didn't make sense and were actually a little creepy- "it's better than the Main House because you won't run into anyone," "you're actually safer in the Carriage House because your room opens right to the outside," "the Carriage House is more secure because you have your own outside steps" (I'm not really sure how direct access to the outside makes a room MORE secure...), and he reiterated that the room was "dog-friendly". Now again to be clear, hotels are not legally allowed to exclude a guest from a space due to a service animal. I always try to be respectful of any place I stay however, especially smaller properties that may have fewer resources and staff. In fact, I always travel with lint rollers to clean up before we leave, and I will often even bring my own bedding. I have encountered this fight too many times to count though, so I have learned to pick my battles. Given that he seemed to be making an effort to accommodate, and the price was the same, I decided not to make a fuss and confront him about it since it was only for one night. As he was making the reservation, he again seemed distracted or flustered. I mentioned that I could see the room on the website (which again, showed a rate of $170) and was happy to book directly to save him the trouble. He said he preferred to do it himself. During the process, he referenced the rate being $180. I politely corrected him, and he referenced a fee for my dog. I again specified that my dog is not a pet, but a trained and working service dog. At the end of the call, he said he would send email confirmation shortly. This had all taken place during early afternoon but by the evening, I hadn't received confirmation. By the next morning, I still had not received an email so I called to follow up. He sounded flustered, and said he would do it right then. By 4:30pm, I again still had not received confirmation so I checked my credit card statement and saw that a charge had been made for $234.65 the day before. I called and when he answered, there was no greeting, just a "yes?" His tone entirely changed and he claimed the added amount ($65) was taxes. I don't know about other states, but room tax in MA is not 40%. I have much more info but am running out of space. Details can be viewed on TripAdvisor. Short version is that because he couldn't legally charge for my service dog, he charged me for an upgraded suite I didn't book instead, thinking I wouldn't catch it until too late. We have stayed at The Wagner several times, and we love it there! The staff is caring and attentive specilly this year when we went in August, during the Covid epidemic. I love sleeping with our windows open to hear night birds and owls, something we dont get to enjoy in NY. But the air conditioning is great too! The location is fabulous! You can access Long Pond, Great Pond and all the Wellfleet beaches in minutes. My kids love walking to town for ice cream, and to The Wicked Oyster for breakfast. This year we used the firepit at night for fabulous s'mores! Wellfleet is a beautiful town with a vibrant downtown filled with restaurants, shops, fresh markets and the delicious PB boulangerie. We first came to the Wagner in 1983 for our honeymoon, when it was under a different management, we keep coming ever since! read more

The Wagner has a great location, a fantastic website designer and photographer, and a whole lot of potential. I just spent the long Independence Day weekend with my family of 6 at the Inn, and occupied the Captain's Room and the Great Room. The Captain's Room is well appointed, but when you enter the "bathroom" that impression is totally lost. You are literally walking into a desert highway motel's bathroom, only worse. You are literally looking for the tarantula lurking somewhere. The Great Room is indeed vast, and would have done very well if it were not for the ridiculously grim shower unit (that even Psycho would have snubbed) and the persistent stench of some dead creature that must have come from some recess in the walls (because it never went away after we asked the staff to provide some Drano and did the whole cleanup of the drain ourselves - COVID rules, no staff enters your room, ever). Another unpleasant COVID adjustment is that there is no breakfast at all (even though their website and Booking.com sell the very expensive rooms as comprehensive of breakfast). No refund was offered for the lack of 6 x 3 = 18 adult breakfasts, by the way. Ultimately, the Wagner is a decent place, but not for the money they ask. It would be a truly great place for people that do not wash though. I would say that a fair summary statement would be that the establishment is a monument to underachievement in hospitality. It could be truly one of the great Cape Cod inns, but it sorely needs some serious structural and infrastructural investment. It also needs PRESENCE of the owners, as all these small inns do. We felt like we were staying in a completely empty house for most of our time there. Again, for some people, this could be a plus. So my recommendation to the owners is : either fix the structure or apply adequate pricing, because this is NOT a luxury inn. read more

The Inn is traditional New England and has some old fashioned charm. The grounds look like they have seen better days and I'm guessing they have issues finding staff to take care of maintenance. The check in is contactless. Our room key was in an envelope with our name on it. The room size was ample and the furnishings were fine. The bathroom had a claw foot tub but the shower curtains kinda stuck to me as I showered. The shower drain was clogged so the tub filled up. The piping needs some maintenance. I'm 5'3" and couldn't use the mirror above the sink as only the tip top of my head was visible. There is no vanity so you have to put toiletries on the toilet or in the room. No blow dryer provided. The bed was comfortable and adequate bedding but the pillows suck. They are flat and hard. The Wagner offers breakfast but we couldn't find where they were serving it. We had no instructions on check out so just left the key on a table in the foyer. We asked two staff members about it and they both just nodded when we asked. Overall disappointed because this was a $369 a night room. Total one night charge was over $400 so value wise The Wagner is over priced for what you get. The photos on the website are misleading. We needed ice to chill some wine - and Tiff graciously offered to go to their tavern next door because the ice maker in the kitchen was out!! The inn is charming and a step back in time. Our room in the main house was clean, cozy and bed was comfortable. Breakfast each morning in the kitchen was plentiful and delicious!! Karen was lovely and made us feel welcome!! Although we did not stay at the Wagner I am compelled to write a review. We were walking past the Inn during OysterFest 2022 and one of the new owners said hello. Six hours later we were still sitting on their porch enjoying the evening and the company. Grant and John are absolutely the most welcoming hosts! The 200-year-old building is charming and clean. I stayed here Mon-Fri while attending a conference. This lovely inn is charming and a great find. Some of the reviews below even are humorous. Someone went as far as to complain about the door handle. Folks--this is an OLD HOME TURNED INN. It has been maintained of its charm. So yes it has new windows, new window treatments, new furniture and great bedding. But if you want a brand spanking new building then I suggest you pack up and get a room at the four points. This beautiful place has original door handles, sorry whiners but two hands needed! Lovely wood floors, original wood work. It can get a little damp so we just opened the windows and turned off the air while we werent here! Problem solved. It has a clawfoot tub so yes, the shower curtain may touch you. It doesn't bite. Great little continental breakfast always with a homemade baked good. You want quaint, this is your spot! read more

Very convenient location, close to the center of Wellfleet. Very nice and charming house and room (we got room 30). Overall we really enjoyed our time there (they also have a space for outside fireplace!), even though we didn't get any breakfast (even if it was included in the booking reservation we made). If you associate quaint with falling apart, then this place is for you! To say we were upset and disappointed is an understatement. When we arrived in the afternoon, we inquired about the breakfast options for our two day stay for the 3 of us and were told there was no breakfast, despite the website and contract stating there was. When I asked about receiving compensation in the form of a gift certificate for a local breakfast place or the like, we were told no, but if we wanted there would be 3 cinnamon rolls & coffee for us the next day at 9 AM. Karen appeared at 9:45 AM , after we had already departed to go get breakfast somewhere else, (adding extra expense to our stay x 2 days). That same evening, while preparing to shower, the metal curtain rods fell on me! Luckily, this did not occur to my husband or son, both who have disabilities. None-the-less, it was upsetting and could have been a terrible medical outcome. What makes this even worse, there was no one at the front desk to report this to! Both emergency numbers posted at the empty front desk were not " on call" numbers, and our messages went to voice mail. Although not on the "emergency phone numbers list" I called Karen, and left a VM with her. We were unable to shower after our long Cape Cod beach day, as it was not safe to do so. The next day, we were moved to a third floor dormer room, with a very humid and barely functioning dehumidifier and AC unit, and a broken bureau drawer. When Karen was on site intermittently throughout this day, she provided us with a circulating fan, when we commented about this temperature challenge. It moved the air, but didn't cool it. That night had very uncomfortable sleeping conditions, as it was very warm and stuffy.Again, there wasn't anyone available in person or by phone at night to reach out to. Our morning of departure, I ventured out to get coffee and breakfast ( as there wasn't anything on the premises). It was a sunny morning and I planned to set up our food on one of your cast-iron-with-red-umbrella sets. I placed all my items on the table and as I moved aside to get a chair , the entire umbrella and table fell over, spilling my hot beverages, wetting my food purchases and prescription sun glasses. Thankfully, I wasn't hurt and my expensive lenses were spared.Again, there was no one at the front desk, to alert them to this mishap. I could have seriously hurt. This was NOT icing on the cake, but the last nail in the coffin of my experience as one of THE worst places I have ever been and your place is NOT inexpensive. I am a world traveller, as experienced camping in 3rd world countries as I am staying in 5 star places. Lastly, there wasn't anyone at checkout to greet us nor inquire about our stay. While this inn has potential and some charm, under its current management it is struggling. The inn seems to be under-staffed and therefore the rooms and common spaces are often messy and disheveled. When we arrived, there was a pile of sheets on a chair in the reception area, the toilet in the public bathroom was clogged, and there were empty wine glasses on the porch. We were also disappointed with the cleanliness of our room, and were especially frustrated when the staff didn't clean it, even when we posted the "make up room" sign on our door. Overall we found the staff to be kind and well-meaning, but they need to step up their game, given that the nightly rate is $250! We would not stay at The Wagner at Duck Creek again unless things change. read more

I have always liked the Inn at Duck Creeke: a charming, classic old country inn just a little the worse for wear. The new owners (Wagner at Duck Creek - without a final "e") sought to upgrade the experience here, with mixed results. Clear positives: some invisible repairs to aging systems, greatly improved "expanded continental" breakfast, some nice new furniture. Arguably positive: all rooms (not just the top floor of the main building) now have AC. Also television. TBH the absence of these features was part of the beach holiday charm, but okay, I guess most folks want this. Not good: the guest refrigerator is gone and they no longer seem to provide beach towels. (Okay the beach towels were crappy but they worked!). And of course the fancier inn means somewhat higher prices. Anyway i've Stayed here twice since the new regime began. The room in the main building was very nice. The room in the carriage house looked nice but was infested with mold spores detracted from our stay. The fact that no cups or glasses were placed in our room did not help, though it was easy to grab some from the kitchen. (The people downstairs had the same complaint.) The staff were always pleasant and enhanced our stay. On balance, it is still a reasonably priced (no longer bargain!) country inn tucked into beautiful Wellfleet. read more

The breakfast wasn't a hot breakfast, but The Wagner offered bagels, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, cereal & muffins. It was enough to get your day started. My wife and I were traveling late and did not have a reservation. At 11pm we were met at The Wagner by two very friendly and helpful women, who got us into a lovely room on the second floor - clean, well furnished, windows that actually opened onto a field with trees, etc. Very quiet and comfortable, and the breakfast was hearty and delicious. I was assigned to Room 4 of the Carriage House, a building on the same grounds as the main Inn but separate. It was very disappointing! It was rather cheap looking and cheaply decorated and kind of patched together without much care for how things looked. It was dirty when I got there and the coffee and grinds from the previous guests were still in the coffee maker. My room had a kitchenette but was lacking the usual things you would expect, for example no dish towels and only 1 fork. I stayed for 4 nights and there was no housekeeping or towels changed ( fine with me), but my garbage was not emptied once. I paid over $800 for 4 nights stay in August and did not feel like this was a good value at all, and I have spent many summers in Wellfleet. I gave 2 stars because of the good location and because the main Inn looks nice. If you are going to book I would be sure to verify before where your room will be. read more

Charming place to stay at the upper Cape. We had to move rooms twice. We asked to get a bigger room and we had to move again for the last night. We have stayed in 3 different rooms. They are all cosy. But.. have flaws in several rooms. The drawers in room 21 are difficult to handle. Apart from that the room is nice. The shower curtains in room 24 fell down due to a poor construction. Our first room was so tiny that it was hard to find a place for our suitcases and also there was only one chair and one of the tabs in the bathtub was broken and had a sharp edge. The bathrooms are fitted with an old style tub with shower curtains around it. One had to get used to it. The breakfast was very good. The personell is nice and helpful. They maintain the room every 3 days or when asked, same with The beds were good in every room. Parking is spacious. Nice lawn with chairs. View at the pond is beautiful. read more

Positives are the warm staff, the upscale feel of the rooms, the air-conditioning, the convenient and quiet location, the breakfast (although I would personally love some homemade banana bread or fresh fruit), and the two restaurants within walking distance. I can't say enough about this gorgeous property. Our room was charming yet modern, and we found the staff to be highly professional and attentive. The daily breakfast was also superb. It's a short walk to the downtown shopping, restaurants and harbor and very convenient to the beach. We really enjoyed our dinner (and the live music!) at the Well Tavern + Kitchen on property. Great menu with a variety of options -- be sure to save room for dessert. The key lime pie is to die for. read more

We stayed here for 3 nights and it was absolutely lovely. The house itself is big and rambling but the rooms and the common areas are clean, comfortable, quiet and sunny. Our room had lovely views, an incredibly comfortable king sized bed, lots of sun and fresh air. The kitchen is set up so guests can help themselves to coffee, tea and breakfast which adds a level of coziness. Our host Karen was friendly, organized, helpful and great to talk to. The Wagner is perfectly located just outside the center of Wellfleet but only a 5 minute walk. And if you're not up for a walk there are 2 restaurants next door, both good and welcoming. We stayed in the main house but there is a carriage house that looks cute as a button. We would definitely come back! read more

Don't waste your money!! It's a rip off. For $250 a night- we got a room that had a broken chair, the drawers of the dresser didn't open and the closet smelled like mold. The bathroom was disgusting. It smelled so bad I went to the store and paid $20 for air freshners. The shower curtain was held up by old, rusty hardware. And the tub didn't drain. When we told the staff - they apparently came up and put draino in- problem - no ventilation in the bathroom so we couldn't even stay in our room when we got back the chemical smell was so bad. Top this off by the fact that I requested a room with 2 twin beds and got a room with a double. When I told the girl at the front desk she laughed and said it was a new reservation system and there was nothing they could do- I booked the room in January!! Seriously I love Wellfleet and really wanted to like this place - but from the parking lot that smelled like an outhouse to the pathetic state of the rooms it was a total waste of money. read more

We stay at the Duck Creek Inn at least once a summer and were excited to see the updates now that's it's The Wagner at Duck creek. We just got back from a wonderful weekend and I'm already trying to book our next stay. The property has everything you need for a relaxing weekend in Wellfleet. The best upgrade is by far the breakfast. The newly renovated kitchen has a great spread for a continental breakfast, like homemade granola, bagels, cheese, and fresh fruit. The rooms are simple and cute with full towel service. One downside was the claw foot tub, which fits into the quaint feel of the house but would pool at your feet and was a tight space. There's a ton of outdoor space to eat your breakfast or even relax after a day at the beach. I noticed there were families with young children, or couples just looking to get away like us. The staff was very friendly and I got a chance to meet the new owner who was extremely accommodating during the booking process. We were also excited about the new restaurant, The Well, which they opened next door. We were happy to ditch the car a couple nights and go next door or walk into town. I'm reluctant to share my favorite place to stay on the cape but this place deserves a high recommendation! Looking forward to our next visit!!! read more
