Each visit reminds us why this beautiful bed and breakfast remains one of our favorite places on Cape Cod. Pete and Denise Butcher are exceptional innkeepers. Warm-hearted, welcoming, and genuinely caring, they treat every guest like family. They know your name, take the time to get to know you, and are always happy to recommend the best restaurants, beaches, golf courses, bike trails, hikes, sunset spots, Cape Cod League baseball games, boat trips, and hidden gems throughout the Cape. The inn itself is charming and impeccably maintained. The rooms are beautifully decorated, comfortable, and relaxing. On our most recent visit, we stayed in the lovely Nauset Suite and immediately felt at home. The grounds are beautifully landscaped, the pool is pristine, and there are inviting patio areas perfect for reading, relaxing, or chatting with fellow guests. One of the highlights of every stay is Denise's wonderful breakfast buffet. Her homemade specialties, including overnight oats and Swedish almond coffee cake, are memorable treats that start the day perfectly. Evenings are equally special. Guests gather around the large fire pit from 7 to 10 p.m., sharing stories, making new friends, and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. Over the years we've met many wonderful people there, including friends who continue to return year after year. The location couldn't be better. Spectacular Nauset Beach is just a short quarter-mile walk away, offering endless stretches of sand, rolling ocean waves, fresh sea air, beautiful shells, and opportunities to spot whales and other marine life Some of our happiest memories are the evenings spent around the fire pit. Guests gather from near and far, and before long everyone is chatting as if they've known each other for years. We've exchanged travel stories, shared laughs, learned about different parts of the country, and picked up wonderful recommendations. What always amazes us is how quickly we discover a common bond. Whether someone is visiting for the first time or returning for the tenth, we all share an appreciation for the warmth, hospitality, and sense of community that Pete and Denise have created at Ship's Knees Inn. Those fire pit conversations often become as memorable as the days spent exploring Cape Cod. It's easy to see why Ship's Knees Inn earned recognition from Cape Cod LIFE Magazine's Best of Cape Cod Awards, receiving Silver Winner honors in the Bed & Breakfast/Inn category in both 2025 . It is a relaxing, rejuvenating, and peaceful retreat where hospitality is genuine and every guest feels valued. We can't wait for our next visit.

We've found the rooms to be clean, comfortable and well appointed. The grounds are beautiful and well cared for, and there is a nice pool area as well. The Inn itself is located just a short walk from Nauset Beach, which is super convenient. The town of Orleans has nice shopping and plenty of dining options as well. Denise puts together a wonderful breakfast each morning with a rotation of delicious baked goods and other treats. On this last visit I happened to mention that I love pancakes, and there they were the next morning! Again, if we ever have a special request, Denise & Peter will do everything to make it happen. We are so happy that our friends found this Inn years ago, and invited us to join them, and we've been returning ever since. I found them extremely accommodating and easy to talk to. From the moment we checked in, at breakfast, throughout the day and when we checked out, every interaction was calm, caring, engaging and thoughtful. I found a great deal for the Penny House on Living Social and was so glad that I purchased it and went to visit. Upon entering, the atmosphere was clean, stylish and very comfortable. I was extremely impressed (except that the artwork in the living room was not my taste at all- but that's a personal thing) Otherwise, the layout was large and felt really spacious, there were lots of windows letting in plenty of natural light. Because we were there during the off-peak season we had a choice of rooms and chose to stay in the Captains Quarters which was UNREAL!!! Talking to the new owners, I know they are planning on updating all the rooms but as it was, we were extremely happy. We completely fell in love with this room. Full of old world charm, dark wood panelling, dark rustic wood beams, 4 post king sized bed! The room had comfortable chairs, fireplace, separate bathroom and the most unbelievable spa tub I have ever soaked in. We made sure to use the tub every night we were there, especially after our day of hiking around Provincetown on the beach and in the dunes. So good for sore muscles. The breakfasts were great! We were served homemade granola, yogurt, eggs, bacon and either waffle or pumpkin pancakes and everything was so tasty. There were also cookies and scones complimentary and you could help yourself to tea or coffee throughout the day. I felt so at home here, I didn't want to leave. The last day that I was there, I treated myself to 90 min massage in their amazingly beautiful spa. I had a great treatment and I am extremely picky. (this is coming from a fellow Licensed Massage Therapist) Janet really did a great job working specific points and areas of my body to release tension while giving a fantastic overall relaxation treatment. The spa itself is beautiful, the owner told me it's the first thing they renovated when the purchased the Penny House in June. It's tastefully decorated in a modern yet calming style, the colors and decor are warm and soothing, with another beautiful jet tub, two massage tables, a fire place and great amenities. I'm already trying to plan my next visit to Penny House Inn & Spa- I can't wait to go back and relax, hopefully for more than just two nights next time.

Every night was a dance trying to get into bed without hitting my head on the TV that hangs on the wall. The bed and pillows are very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious! The first time we stayed here we stayed in a much larger room, but it was not available when we booked this trip. The hotel lobby seems kind of cold. Before all the renovations it was a warm, welcoming space. Will we come back? Most likely because it is very sentimental to us, but we will never stay in that tiny room ever again.

Our room (#1) was immediately off the shared space by the door of the inn, so folks looking for more privacy and less noise from other guests should pick a different room. But we loved all the light we got during the day and the in room fireplace at night. In warmer months, there's a small porch off of this room as well (besides temperature, its a little too exposed to use in the winter as well). In the interest of indulging in some booze, we walked to two different restaurants in the evening: the Red Nun (straightforward cape sports pub) and Campari's. However, the walk to Campari's was a bit of a deathtrap considering there were no streetlights or sidewalks for much of the way. Go to to Red Nun if you value your life. Nick & Brian were consummate hosts, attentive and charming. Our housekeeper (Natalie?) was very sweet as well. The included breakfast was tasty and fresh. I am writing to formally document my experience at the CopperSwan Inn and to strongly recommend…read morethat others NOT book this hotel. My wife and I arrived on Saturday, July 25, at approximately 3:00 PM, which was the exact check-in time provided in the hotel's welcome email. The reception area was vacant, with no staff member available to greet us, provide check-in information, or explain the property or amenities. A note containing our name and a room key had simply been left for us. I was also surprised to discover that although our confirmation stated we had booked a room in "The Carriage House," that was not the accommodation we received. We were never informed of the change or given any explanation. Based on the photographs on the hotel's website, the room we received appeared to be of lesser quality than the accommodation we had booked and paid for. We received no information about common areas, breakfast, or other important aspects of the property. Unfortunately, the problems continued throughout our five-day stay. On our first night, the toilet in our room became clogged. I searched the property for a staff member but could not find anyone. I checked again the following morning with the same result. The first-floor bathroom was also clogged. I eventually located a plunger there and used it to unclog our toilet myself, then returned the plunger. We also never received the breakfast advertised as being included with our reservation. Each morning, my wife and I searched the property and grounds but found no breakfast or information about where it was being served. On Sunday morning, we went to Brekkies next door, where we paid full price for our meal. We were never asked whether we were CopperSwan guests, nor were we told that breakfast would be provided off-site or that any special arrangements were required. Our reservation specifically stated that an "enhanced continental breakfast" was included. Housekeeping was another major issue. Our room was not serviced, and towels and sheets were not replaced until Tuesday, July 28, despite our placing the housekeeping sign outside the door each day requesting service. When housekeeping finally entered, all of our towels were removed but none were replaced. A bathroom garbage bag was removed and left on the floor inside our room, while the bathroom garbage was not replaced. I ultimately had to find clean towels myself in the first-floor linen closet. Garbage that I placed in the hallway Tuesday afternoon remained there until we left the following day. I also attempted to contact the property manager Sunday evening by phone and email. I could not reach anyone by phone and received no response to my initial email. A response to a second email finally arrived on the day of our departure. The sender did not identify themselves or their position and stated that my original email had gone to their spam folder. Maintaining a reliable method of communication with guests should be a basic responsibility of the property. During our stay, I spoke with multiple other guests who reported similar difficulties locating or contacting staff. I stayed at the property for five days without having a single interaction with a staff member, which I found extremely concerning. My wife's family has been visiting Wellfleet for more than 40 years, and neither they nor I have experienced this level of service at a lodging establishment in the area. While any hotel can experience an isolated problem, our experience was a pattern of failures involving check-in, communication, plumbing, housekeeping, towels, garbage removal, breakfast, and the accommodation we were actually provided. What was most disappointing was the apparent lack of accountability and communication throughout our stay. Based on this experience, I strongly recommend that you do not book a stay at the CopperSwan Inn. You will likely be very disappointed.

There were no employees about the place; it was all self-serve. They had pillow shams on the 4 pillows on the bed, but no pillow cases. Most importantly, there was no smoke detector in our room, just an empty bracket. This was very surprising, given their experience with a fire in their place in 2023. The Brekkie place next door where we had breakfast included in the cost of our room was cold each day. I do not recommend this place and hope it gets better.
