It was charming, homey, and most importantly for us, quiet. Judy and Ray who are the owners have been running that inn for over 26 years. And Rachel (general manager) has been there for 4 seasons. They are just wonderful people, and always welcomed us every morning like your own mom and dad. Rachel is probably your cousin. The breakfast were all home made and delicious. One morning we had waffles with strawberries. Another morning a quiche. I drink a lot of sparkling water, and so HAPPY they had a machine to pour your own. Tenz! Tenz! Tenz! Tenz across the board. Thank you guys (especially the staff!) for being wonderful. We will come again for sure.

There was always PLENTY of complimentary water, tea, coffee and treats available throughout the day for all of the guests. The breakfast menu changes on a daily basis and was delicious. I still can't get over how amazing the orange, ricotta pancakes were! But really, the true highlight of our stay was meeting Judy and Ray (owners). They were so incredibly hospitable. Judy made us feel right at home the moment we met her. She's so nice, thoughtful and has a great sense humor! If you are planning to stay in Chatham, I highly recommend staying here. We knew it changed hands and saw online how much it changed but still decided to come back. Soooo.. The room was like a closet, the bathroom you probably can do a couple of functions at once due to the size of it. Every night was a dance trying to get into bed without hitting my head on the TV that hangs on the wall. The bed and pillows are very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious! The first time we stayed here we stayed in a much larger room, but it was not available when we booked this trip. The hotel lobby seems kind of cold. Before all the renovations it was a warm, welcoming space. Will we come back? Most likely because it is very sentimental to us, but we will never stay in that tiny room ever again.

The staff works hard to find out everyone's names. They even cleaned my sunglasses when I left it in the room and put a lens cleaning wipe next to it as well. On the flipside, our room was extraordinarily small - especially for the price point. We're talking tiny New York bedroom small where there's hardly room for more than a bed and nightstand. The bathroom is also minuscule with barely a free inch of space. Hardly what I can call 5 stars - at best 3 stars, and I'm being generous here. Yes, the rooms are renovated. But the house is 200 yrs old and you can't make a 5 ft bathroom feel like a palace no matter how much marble you slap on the walls. So I settled on a 4 to balance both sides. But I would honestly say, once again, that the service was some of the best I've ever experienced at a hotel. And that might keep me coming back - maybe in a bigger room, though.

When she brought out his mac & cheese, she called him up to eat, joking she was going to eat it if he didn't come quick. She saved us the hassle of attempting to get him up from the beach. She also took him to wash his hands before eating, as he had sand all over them. It was such a pleasant experience, with great food. I highly recommend Chatham Bars Inn for their food quality and service!

"An ounce of pretension is worth a pound of manure."…read more The bizarre attitude I just experienced while trying to make a reservation for a nearly $3000.00 stay for 3 days at this property in the off season exemplifies this statement. We will be at The Cape for a milestone anniversary in May from the 7th thru the 10th and thought that the importance of the celebration warranted a little luxury. I am 5 years cancer free. The woman who I just spoke with on the phone after perusing their website was vapid - and that's being polite. I explained that this was an important anniversary and that I saw exactly the room that I wanted to stay in - and went on to describe a beige room with a fireplace, king bed and ceiling fan. This is not cheap mind you; it's nearly $1000 a night, in the off-season. Can't stress that enough. She said that she would be happy to take the reservation but couldn't guarantee the room. Not understanding I asked her if she could check and see if that room was already booked. She explained that it's first come, first served and room assignments are random. If that's the case why on earth post pictures of the rooms at all. That seems a little bait-and-switch to me. Still thinking that I wasn't quite understanding I said " I don't think I'm being clear. I would really like to stay in that room so if I'm calling today and paying for it in full, why can't I choose the room that I would like to stay in? This makes no sense to me." She went on to sweetly explain to me - in order to keep it "fair" for everyone, rooms are to be assigned at the time of check-in. I would love for somebody from this property to explain this to me in terms a five-year-old might understand because at nearly $3000 for three days in the off season 6 WEEKS IN ADVANCE I should be able to book whatever room is available. Unreal.

Best word to describe the Bradford Inn would be adequate. We spent about $320/night and stayed 3…read moredays in August. It's nothing spectacular. Nothing to write home about. Let me start off with the Good: The staff was friendly & helpful for the most part. And our room was very clean. Cleanliness is VERY important to me. Also, they are centrally located. They are located smack in the middle of downtown where many of the shops, spas, and restaurants are located. Even if you choose not to drive, you can have a pretty full vacation enjoying the sites, shops, and eateries within walking distance. A huge plus. Now for the Not So Good & the Plain Bad: Breakfast is included in the room rate. They serve the usual fare: assorted pastries/baked goods, cereal, bread, fruit, etc. But they only serve one hot item per morning. The item could be french toast, scrambled eggs, pancakes, etc. While we were there, french toast was served one morning and scrambled eggs on another. I ended up eating only half of a french toast. Not too good. Eggs? Meh. The breakfast is definitely disappointing compared to some of the more traditional bed & breakfasts I've experienced, but it's adequate. Like I said nothing spectacular. But nothing particularly bad either. The Bad? The bed squeaked with any type of movement. Not only that, it moved side to side, kinda like a waterbed (but not in a good way), whenever we moved even slightly . Needless to say, we didn't sleep as well as we hoped. They should invest in new beds. All in all, it was an adequate place. Would I drop more than $300/night to stay here again? Probably not. But if you are a heavy sleeper with a sweet tooth for cold pastries, this could be the place for you.

This may not be the hotel for you if you like a hot shower in the morning and appreciate a complimentary breakfast that consists of more than just fruit and stale bagels. Booking our trip 2 weeks prior to our stay I was happy to note that they offered a pretty good rate of 220 a night considering the area. That said, I am disappointed to note that the front desk couldn't be more disrespectful and impolite. No wonder the short- notice vacancy. Nowhere on the website or the promotional material did we see that children were not welcome. When I checked in, leaving my husband and mother in the car with our 2 children, the woman at the front made it clear that she was unhappy that we made our reservations online, and for that reason our 2 booked rooms could not be in the same building even though the considerable vacancy in the hotel. I explained we had young children who wanted to be close to their grandmothers room but she was unmoved and never said a word about the children - but only disregard for the fact that we booked it online. The next morning when we came down for breakfast, another woman at the front desk glared at my children and asked if we were staying at the hotel. When I replied yes, she asked for my room numbers and said that children were not allowed in the hotel and that because I did it online I wouldn't have known that. (And?). She sat us in a small stuffy room three rooms off of the main dining area and returned 20 minutes later to tell us we could go get our food at the buffet. Every single time we passed the desk from then on, they kept coming up to one of the adults in our party to restate the no children allowed policy. Important to note, is that even though they admitted our kids were very good ( and they were, ages 6,7) they said that they felt badly for the other guests that they had to "see them." My advice is not to stay here. If booking online is such a problem, then take your information off of expedia, trip advisor and hotels.com or just tell people at check-in instead of constantly harassing your guests over their stay. No wonder there are upcoming plans for the Bradford Inn to be redeveloped into residential.

Chatham is one of the last bastions of civilization. The town is beautiful, the people friendly, and everybody seems ecstatic to be there. The 4th of July parade is a real slice of Americana- a gesture back to a simpler time. I've travelled to almost every state and a long list of countries, but Chatham and Pilgrim Village top the list of places that make my blood pressure drop and a smile to my face. My 7 yr old son has a blast, and I feel comfortable that he is always safe riding his bike by himself through the community, meeting a bunch of kids his age, going to the playground or shuffleboard court. We never worry about him, and when we leave the community we don't even think about locking our cabin. The tranquil beach on White Pond has the cleanest water I've ever seen, is full of fish, rowboats are provided, and just sitting by it lowers your blood pressure by 30 points. If you want a 5-star hotel with mints on your pillow every night, this is not the place. But if you like a mildly rustic, relaxed atmosphere, a place where you can bring an entire family for a week for less than a thousand bucks a week, want the option to cook in your cabin rather than bear the expense of eating 3 meals a day at restaurants, this is the place for you. The Swenson family has run the place forever, are infinitely helpful, and really care about the beautiful grounds. Their daughter, son-in-law and son are taking over, and bringing new ideas to the mix like wifi, Sunday s'mores cookouts and 4th of July fireworks at the beach. One other reviewer spoke of the "draconian rules". I don't know what he was up to, but I've never experienced anything like that. If you are single, a couple, or a family, I highly recommend Pilgrim Village. Most of the visitors have made it a tradition. Many, like me, have been coming here for decades. We stay for 2 weeks each year. At this price, an extended stay is totally doable. Try staying at the Chatham Bars for that long. You'll have to take out a 2nd mortgage! ENJOY!
