Great spot to grab a drink, sit outside on the lawn chairs and enjoy the view! Arrive early to get a seat! Location is fantastic and plenty of great spots to take pictures. Where else can you go in July that you can hit the beach in a bathing suit by day, and in the evening grab a sweater and sit by a beachside bonfire? Chatham Bars Inn. Its history dates back to 1914 when stockbroker Bostonian, Charles Hardy, developed this private property for the purpose of a luxurious seaside hunting lodge. Fast forward to 2026 and Chatham Bars Inn is consistently rated high among luxury resorts, has won numerous awards and offers something for the very young, old and everyone in between. It's always a relaxing stay, and an expensive resort for its offering. Where they could do a bit better for the high cost of the stay: *My son and daughter in law had their spa time cancelled - and not by my son or daughter in law. The Spa fortunately corrected their error when my son showed his confirmation. The Spa offered a later time. *Working undercounter room refrigerators. Ours was not working. *There was a blown transformer in the area that impacted the room of two in our group. Communication is key during power outage events such as this during record heat. The power outage also impacted the plumbing in their building. Several nights comped eased the pain! Just a few of the many offerings: *Family experiences *Boating excursions and experiences *Private clam bakes *Spa, sauna, fitness room *Seasonal events *Private fishing charters *On the city of Chatham July 4th parade route *Numerous onsite restaurants from fine dining to casual beach side *Numerous bars throughout the property. *Poolside cabanas *Beachside service, lounge chairs and beach umbrellas. I was hoping for the exact experience we ended up having. Chatham Bars Inn is one of the most charming and beautiful hotels in the world. The location, hydrangeas, decor, ambiance... it's nice. We had our 1.5year old daughter, 4 adults, and a few hours of time we were hoping to burn on the patio bar. We snagged a patio table overlooking the sunset around 3:30. My daughter was able to move around, we got to enjoy the beautiful weather, and it was very comfortable to relax outdoors. Three watermelon margaritas later and pizzas started coming out of the oven. Pizzas were actually very delicious - at least the best pizza you could find anywhere on the cape. If you have a chance to spend an afternoon with drinks and pizzas on the patio, I highly recommend. read more

Arriving to this bar / outdoor patio restaurant after complimentary valet parking is akin to drifting on a cloud. The Chatham Bars Inn is just magical. We hit it on an evening where they had a delightful acoustic duo and we sat in the adirondack chairs facing the water. The service both at the bar and our table was polished and professional. We were there for several hours enjoying great drinks, great views, and great music. read more

It feels like we just stepped into a picture perfect New England movie set! Our adorable cottage suite had a cozy fireplace and a window seat with views of the water. Small rabbits hid in the bushes near the pathway, and friendly seals greeted us when we took a short meander to the fishing pier. Lounging on the private beach was so relaxing with an attentive and cheerful staff nearby who checked on us frequently. And I must say that the lobster nachos at the Beach House Grill - amazing! We had a great time there with our toes in the sand while sipping watermelon margaritas and nibbling on the endless tray just loaded with sweet lobster. And of course, ending the day on the terrace watching the setting sun and enjoying cocktails and pizza by the firepit tables was truly memorable. read more

Dinner with friends. Beautiful venue. Not gonna lie - it's a pretty penny, but worth it. Great bar hangout area with excellent drinks. Great wine and drink selection. Food was excellent. The lobster with peas was cooked to perfection - best lobster I have ever tasted. Cooked just right, so soft and fresh. Right amount of butter, not drowning in it. Friends ate various other dishes which they also raved about. Staff excellent, great service, professional, not pushy or overbearing. Valet parking or uber. (Not sure about self parking options.) Make sure to go outside and take pics. Def recommend. Would return if in the area again. read more

Chatham Bars Inn is legit! As far as I understand, it's a fairly nice hotel, so it's nice they allow the public to stop by the restaurant/bar area. My friends and I came by to have some drinks and enjoyed the outdoor area. It was a pretty nice day out when we went, so it was fairly busy. We were able to snag a few seats by the bar, though. If you're looking for a view, just head on down to the beach. Location can't be beat! I'd happily return. read more

I had high expectations for this spot as I had seen so much hype on social media. The grounds do look to be beautiful, and spacious, covering a lot of area. However, parking looks to be impossible, and the eateries was somewhat unaccessible. We got drinks from the bar at the beach house grill, they were $19 each, and really small. I knew they would be pricey, but they were not worth it. The views were pretty, and the picture were pretty but I would not come back. read more

I am reviewing as a "passer through" who is now going to make it a point to try out every single one of their restaurants. The views, the history, the grounds... it all screams gentle luxury and I love luxury (don't like paying luxurious prices unless the food, service and dining knock my socks off...) but just passing by and visiting and interviewing staff, reviewing restaurant menus and their captivating views - can't wait for beach-side burger at the more relaxed dining or a stunning viewing dinner in their fine dining restaurant. AND they offer FREE valet parking! So why not? read more

Sadly, this place used to be one of our favorite spots. While it was never inexpensive, the quality of the food, service, and overall experience always justified the cost. Unfortunately, that was not the case during our most recent visit. The service was extremely slow, with 20-30 minute waits between drinks and very little attention from the staff throughout the evening. The food in the tavern was equally disappointing--easily the worst meal we've had there over the past 20 years. The quality and execution were nowhere near the standard we had come to expect from CBI. In fact, the experience was so underwhelming that we ended up leaving hungry and going home to eat. For a venue with such a strong reputation, it was genuinely surprising and disappointing. We're hopeful this was an isolated issue and that management can get things back on track. CBI was once a five-star destination that consistently delivered exceptional experiences. Until we see signs that things have improved, however, we won't be returning. read more

This hotel has beautiful grounds but the rooms really need a good scrub down! Our room was located away from the main building with self parking which was a blessing as the valet area seemed constantly busy. It's just after Labor Day but there's still plenty of hustle and bustle around here with high prices, slow service but very good food! For me, the prices here don't meet the standard but if you're looking to be in Chatham they say this is the place... set on the beachside with a public golf course at their door step I can see why they still come. We've been staying at the Chatham Bars Inn for over 23 years. We even got married there. Whenever we stay the staff always make us feel special. Our latest stay was for my husband's big birthday and we were not disappointed. The only issue was with our fireplace which wasn't working. The property is beautiful! I had so much fun walking around and looking at all of the flowers and the views of the ocean! My family and I ate at the Chatham Bars Inn Restaurant but the water. It is beautiful and the tables for large groups are huge! The staff are very nice and polite. The service is good but if there are a lot of people the wait for your food might be a bit of a wait maybe like 30-45min. The menu is big and there are alot of options to choose from. I chose the Swordfish Tacos with Fries. I did not like the pineapple sauce they put on it because that is all I could taste, the fish was cooked very well but was bland. I think they need to season the fish more and put a different sauce on the tacos. The fries were literally amazing! read more

"An ounce of pretension is worth a pound of manure." The bizarre attitude I just experienced while trying to make a reservation for a nearly $3000.00 stay for 3 days at this property in the off season exemplifies this statement. We will be at The Cape for a milestone anniversary in May from the 7th thru the 10th and thought that the importance of the celebration warranted a little luxury. I am 5 years cancer free. The woman who I just spoke with on the phone after perusing their website was vapid - and that's being polite. I explained that this was an important anniversary and that I saw exactly the room that I wanted to stay in - and went on to describe a beige room with a fireplace, king bed and ceiling fan. This is not cheap mind you; it's nearly $1000 a night, in the off-season. Can't stress that enough. She said that she would be happy to take the reservation but couldn't guarantee the room. Not understanding I asked her if she could check and see if that room was already booked. She explained that it's first come, first served and room assignments are random. If that's the case why on earth post pictures of the rooms at all. That seems a little bait-and-switch to me. Still thinking that I wasn't quite understanding I said " I don't think I'm being clear. I would really like to stay in that room so if I'm calling today and paying for it in full, why can't I choose the room that I would like to stay in? This makes no sense to me." She went on to sweetly explain to me - in order to keep it "fair" for everyone, rooms are to be assigned at the time of check-in. I would love for somebody from this property to explain this to me in terms a five-year-old might understand because at nearly $3000 for three days in the off season 6 WEEKS IN ADVANCE I should be able to book whatever room is available. Unreal. read more

We are here currently at Chatham Bars. What a gorgeous property. Your staff has been so welcoming and kind. But on a Friday night as we returned from dinner we wanted to have a night cap in the bar ...especially the outdoor one. I can see what influencers and social media have done to a beautiful place like this. It was so full of young, single adults to the point that there were no chairs, no tables, no space for the people that are paying $1500 a night plus to stay at your facility. I feel to ever want to return here you would have to address how to satisfy people first that are paying the price to stay here for a week. We could tell these people are not staying at your facility for the most part. So here is the problem who are you here to serve.? Is it about keeping the youth or it's about keeping the people staying with you year after year? There's got to be a way to support both, but keeping your guests happy should be the top priority. Would love to know if you have a plan to solve this ...saddening for such an iconic place. read more

Luxury Price, Zero Safety -- Chatham Bars Inn FAILED US I am absolutely horrified by our experience at Chatham Bars Inn and equally appalled by American Express Travel's response. What was supposed to be a once-in-a-lifetime babymoon and honeymoon turned into a nightmare that we will never forget. At 1:30 a.m., a drunk man from the adjoining suite broke into our locked room and began urinating in our bathroom while we were asleep. Yes, another guest literally breached our room in the middle of the night. My husband confronted him -- but if I had been alone (I am pregnant), the outcome could have been much worse. This was not an inconvenience; this was a major safety failure. And how did a so-called "luxury" hotel charging over $1,000 per night respond? With insulting, meaningless gestures: * A $300 beach cabana for the day. * Two nonalcoholic beers and one virgin piña colada. * A $30 bottle of wine (I'm pregnant, and my husband doesn't drink). That's their idea of making it right after a drunk stranger breaks into a guest's suite in the middle of the night? Absolutely disgraceful. When we asked for a refund, the hotel told us their "hands were tied" because we had booked through American Express Travel. They pushed us to go through AMEX directly. AMEX initially promised to resolve the situation and return our points. But after dragging the process out for over a month, AMEX came back and told us they couldn't do anything -- because the hotel had already "made up for it" with the cabana. In other words, a cabana was enough to erase a guest safety breach. Both the hotel and AMEX decided that my safety -- as a pregnant woman traveling with my husband -- was worth nothing more than some beach chairs and a drink. To make matters worse, this wasn't our only issue with Chatham Bars Inn: * Our first room was poorly designed, nearly impossible to navigate with my pregnancy, and the bathroom was so dysfunctional that you couldn't even reach the toilet without first stepping inside, closing the door behind you, and then squeezing around it to get to the toilet hidden behind the door. On top of that, the room overlooked nothing but loud air conditioning units, making the entire space feel cramped, uncomfortable, and completely unworthy of the price we were paying. * When we were "upgraded," the hotel misplaced our luggage for over an hour. It was finally found hidden behind closed curtains in the room. Who hides a guest's belongings like that? For a property that markets itself as a premier Cape Cod resort, the level of professionalism, security, and hospitality here was shockingly low. A hotel's most basic responsibility is to keep guests safe. They failed. And AMEX -- who claims to protect its cardholders and prides itself on hospitality -- sided with them instead of with their loyal customer. We will never stay at Chatham Bars Inn again, and we will never book travel through AMEX again. Both failed us in the most fundamental way possible: by refusing to take guest safety seriously. Luxury price, bargain-basement standards, and a complete disregard for customer trust and safety. Avoid this hotel at all costs if you care about safety and customer service!! read more

Our family decided to head up to Chatham on our first visit to the Cape on the 4th of July. To no surprise, it was busy and the vibe was so relaxed and pleasant. We came with my in-laws who had never been either, so we were excited to experience something new. The guys went over to complimentary valet to make parking easy while we explored the grounds of the hotel. Once we finished walking through, we decided to grab a drink at the outdoor bar and enjoy the Adirondack chairs while sipping on sangria and local beers. It was a fantastic afternoon taking in the Cape Cod views and enjoying the NE ambiance. The drinks were a little expensive, but if you go into it knowing that, it won't come as a shock to you. This hotel is expensive but you get what you pay for. We had a fantastic and relaxing getaway. Everyone on staff was pleasant and helpful, which adds to the experience. Of course the location is great, so close to the beach (just being on the cape in general is lovely). The spa is another destination onto itself. This establishment is cool but could have been so much better. For the positives: the views of their grounds and the beach are fantastic. Even with dreary days it was a bit relaxing just to look around - and we stayed there for 3 nights specially to relax. The room was also nicely appointed and very clean. You can tell they take great care to decorate and clean and it shows. On the not so great side, when we arrived we immediately wanted to do room service. I called and got voicemail, so I left a message of what I wanted. After waiting a few minutes I called again and got voicemail again, so I decided to walk over and just order takeout. To my surprise, they wouldn't let me do takeout. They first told me to go back and call room service but when I explained that I tried, they took my order and then told me to go back to my room and wait for delivery. I can only assume this was to ensure they got their full gratuity, but it certainly didn't scream good service. The crab cake sandwich was delicious but unfortunately the green circle chicken entree was on the bloody side. Im not sure, but I think rare chicken is bad for your health. But hey, at least they got their full gratuity! They also do not have a "do not disturb " sign. Therefore I was awakened several times in both the morning and the evening (turn down service) with housekeeping banging on the door. They were nice, but it would have been nicer if I could just signal to them I don't need service. Did I mention the goal was to relax?! And lastly, the cable service was not great. It went out regularly, and outside of the first day the guide and menu features never worked. That was quite disappointing. The place is beautiful, and with some tweaks to their operations they could easily be 5-star worthy. But the devil is always in the details... read more

Chatham Bars Inn presents itself as a haven of elegance, where the ambiance is a refined blend of sophistication and charm. The staff's impeccable service is a standout, showcasing genuine warmth and attentiveness. However, a minor setback occurred with a broken tub plug, a small yet noticeable flaw in an otherwise luxurious setting. While it's a manageable issue, attention to such details is expected at this caliber. The culinary experience at Chatham Bars Inn is a highlight, with a menu that tantalizes the taste buds. The dishes are exquisite, showcasing culinary mastery. My wait staff was five star and would come back for that alone but you are paying for a location at any other fine dining establishment it would be 20% less. But I understand the location and Yes the Chef knew what they were doing making such beautiful masterpieces. One notable disappointment was the difficulty in booking a massage, a service one would anticipate to be seamlessly integrated into the premium stay. The arduous process of securing a massage reservation proved to be a drawback, especially considering the steep cost of $500 or more. In summary, Chatham Bars Inn offers a luxurious retreat with a few nuances that slightly mar the overall experience. The broken tub plug and challenges in booking spa services are aspects that the management might want to address to ensure a consistently outstanding stay for their guests. read more

I am currently in the middle of my stay at Chatham Bars Inn. What I had looked forward to for so long I now can't wait to have end. Chatham Bars is a better than average hotel. Nothing more. That said, Chatham Bars may also well be the finest wedding venue on the eastern seaboard. Do you know what no one on earth has ever said: "best place for summer vacations--wedding venues!" Pick a lane. They don't and it shows. Checked in last night, the place was packed. It was like a well-dressed bus depot with dozens of feral children running around. Was I checking into a resort or a wedding venue? I half expected someone to jump out and ask; "bridge or groom". Still you would think after checking in, there would be someplace a resort customer could get something to eat. Wrong. There are NO reservations at most of restaurants. This means for food, tourists from virtually every corner of the Cape line up to create a two hour wait queues. The resort makes NO accommodation for Inn guest to at least jump in the line in some manner? How is this 5-star again? When you ask anyone about how odd it is there are so many simple things a resort guest can't do. All you get is the Gen Z stare! I wanted to take my book and sit in a chair outside. You would think at a high-end resort, that would be simple. It isn't. The Inn makes NO accommodate for hotel guests. There was no room for me to sit. And for a reason no sane person can explain, this 5-star hotel can't rope off 3 or 4 tables for the idiots that are paying their Inn prices. Yes, it's 5-star Mobile, but if you want to sit down--not so much. Chatham Bars is a victim of it's own success. The Inn itself is a tourist destination. Visitors from miles around all come to Chatham to eat and enjoy the resort. I made a serious mistake for coming here. Did I really choose a tourist trap for our 20th anniversary. I am afraid so. I did ask, "how do you get a chair here?". Someone from the hotel answered "early in the morning", with a chuckle. You'd be surprised how that laugh doesn't land to the guy paying the average monthly mortgage for a hotel he can't eat at. read more
