We knew it changed hands and saw online how much it changed but still decided to come back. Soooo.. The room was like a closet, the bathroom you probably can do a couple of functions at once due to the size of it. Every night was a dance trying to get into bed without hitting my head on the TV that hangs on the wall. The bed and pillows are very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious! The first time we stayed here we stayed in a much larger room, but it was not available when we booked this trip. The hotel lobby seems kind of cold. Before all the renovations it was a warm, welcoming space. Will we come back? Most likely because it is very sentimental to us, but we will never stay in that tiny room ever again.

I really wanted to give this place 5 stars but I have to be honest. There are really two competing…read morefactors here. The service is about the best I've ever seen. The staff works hard to find out everyone's names. They even cleaned my sunglasses when I left it in the room and put a lens cleaning wipe next to it as well. On the flipside, our room was extraordinarily small - especially for the price point. We're talking tiny New York bedroom small where there's hardly room for more than a bed and nightstand. The bathroom is also minuscule with barely a free inch of space. Hardly what I can call 5 stars - at best 3 stars, and I'm being generous here. Yes, the rooms are renovated. But the house is 200 yrs old and you can't make a 5 ft bathroom feel like a palace no matter how much marble you slap on the walls. So I settled on a 4 to balance both sides. But I would honestly say, once again, that the service was some of the best I've ever experienced at a hotel. And that might keep me coming back - maybe in a bigger room, though.

It was charming, homey, and most importantly for us, quiet. Judy and Ray who are the owners have been running that inn for over 26 years. And Rachel (general manager) has been there for 4 seasons. They are just wonderful people, and always welcomed us every morning like your own mom and dad. Rachel is probably your cousin. The breakfast were all home made and delicious. One morning we had waffles with strawberries. Another morning a quiche. I drink a lot of sparkling water, and so HAPPY they had a machine to pour your own. Tenz! Tenz! Tenz! Tenz across the board. Thank you guys (especially the staff!) for being wonderful. We will come again for sure.

However, we came in with our baby, and the owner Ray was so rude, it was unbelievable and disgusting actually. He kicked us out and said you cannot stay here but would offer us a refund since it was within 24 hours. I walked away extremely upset but understood the policy. I now called the owners wondering where my refund is and he LIED!!!! Stating he never said that, when my husband and I both heard him say that explicitly and we have no reason to lie. He stated he would give us the refund since it was within 24 hours. I will be reporting this charge to my credit card company as this is fraud if I have ever seen it. When I called back he said "people go on vacation to escape children, not so you can bring them with you". Disgusting people and have never seen treatment like this in my life.

Our room (#1) was immediately off the shared space by the door of the inn, so folks looking for more privacy and less noise from other guests should pick a different room. But we loved all the light we got during the day and the in room fireplace at night. In warmer months, there's a small porch off of this room as well (besides temperature, its a little too exposed to use in the winter as well). In the interest of indulging in some booze, we walked to two different restaurants in the evening: the Red Nun (straightforward cape sports pub) and Campari's. However, the walk to Campari's was a bit of a deathtrap considering there were no streetlights or sidewalks for much of the way. Go to to Red Nun if you value your life. Nick & Brian were consummate hosts, attentive and charming. Our housekeeper (Natalie?) was very sweet as well. The included breakfast was tasty and fresh. Don't skip the blueberry muffin, its delicious.

Do not stay at for Hawthorne Motel…read more It saddens me to have to say that the quality of management has really depreciated so badly I would never stay at this motel again. My husband and I have stayed here for 10 years and this year with the management being Jeff and Kari we experienced the worst in hospitality that we have experienced in our 62 years of life My husband and I were traveling with our 2-year-old granddaughter and have stayed here for the past 3 years with her. Although the accommodations were modest at best we were treated well, and always returned same time each year. This year unfortunately we were met by Jeff who immediately started complaining about hot having to manage this because there wasn't anybody else in the family to do it. He was very aware that we will bring in our granddaughter asked if we even needed a pack and flight which we did not we had accommodations for her for the floor. The next day when I saw Jeff with my granddaughter he waved and said hi Gramm! Although we noticed a difference in the accommodations at the motel to name a few there was no luggage cart ( Jeff complained he was tired of people hitting the air-conditioning units with it) a soda machine ( he was tired of fixing it) there were no more small table next to the lawn chairs, we were provided a quarter of a sponge which was used on the sink when we arrived, a quarter paper towels in the paper towel holder a quarter toilet paper in the toilet paper dispenser - seemed like there was a need to severely cut costs ? In the bathtub the safety handle collapsed when used by my granddaughter ! A lamp was broken in the room and when I put it outside to be taken by housekeeping staff, Jeff appeared annoyed and short with my husband. By the third morning my husband was asked to be spoken to by Jeff and my son was also present. He proceeded to say how disruptive we were and that he was receiving complaints about us from other guests ! ( we had been there less than 48 hours at this time with our granddaughter ) Interesting our neighbors next door who we knew from last year told us they did not hear a thing and was shocked to hear this as well, " wow they really made you feel unwanted didn't they/" Jeff noted that I called tomy husband to bring her back from the car and felt that was disruptive. I've never been treated so offensively in a place that supposed to be hospitality focused in my life. Jeff even went on to say that a guest left " early" come to find out normal departure time was 11 and she said she left at 8 because we were noisy... We leave our room by 715am ! Follow on conversation with Jeff and Kari left us to feel like we were burden, unwanted and severely disrespectful of others and they had no choice but to put us in our place! They provided no viable explanation of disruptive behaviors that we would think would warrant this horrible treatment . My husband and I decided this was not a place we felt comfortable staying in for 1 more minute and left 3 days early. Kari and Jeff refused to refund our 3 nights stay- "good luck with that your card was aready charged" she smirked. So this is what it's come to at the Hawthorne Motel we will not be back and do not recommend others to visit unless they want to be subjected to an unstable unhappy individuals unwelcoming ways. The Hawthorne and severely needs updates, and if it's time for the family to sell it to get into the hands that somebody can make it enjoyable stay again soon.so be it!

Every single time we visited, the service has been impeccable and I find it hard to think about any other resort that can get even close to Wequassett. The grounds are perfectly kept and the rooms have been recently renovated. And although, there's a trend even with classic high-end resorts (St. Regis, J.W., Ritz-Carlton) to make their renovations a little too modern for my taste, Wequassett successfully kept their old school charm. We always stay at their Signature Water View King rooms (and book well in advance as there's only a few of these) so I can't speak of other room types. The amenities are flawless and even though the main pool gets VERY crowded during summer weekends, the pool attendant always found 2 chairs for us. My only recommendation for this property is to have a backup plan for the main pool. Perhaps installing a deck and adding some more chairs there to accommodate more guests that prefer the beach vs. the pool.

Sincerely the best of any resort we've stayed at -Genuinely friendly staff -The cleaning crew was phenomenal and didn't miss a spot The not-so-good: -Paper thin walls. We were woken up multiple nights because the upstairs guests were walking around. Yes, plain footsteps - not even stomping - were very audible. For close to 1k a night, this shouldnt have happened. My cheap grad school duplex apartment didn't even have walls this thin! -Friction prevented us from giving the resort more money. There's room service but no menu in the room and it wasn't easily found online either. And we were so ready to drop a good amount of money on poolside drinks and food but nobody waited on us both times we were at the pool. (They did happen to wait on the social media star who was present, which was very obvious, and we made eye contact with another family who shrugged because they hadn't been waited on either.) And finally the coffee shop closed at noon. We would have happily patronized the shop for a treat and a coffee and were disappointed to find it closed so early. -Our perception was that there was nothing going on at the Wequassett. We stayed in June (and received the May newsletter; perhaps that would've given us more info if we had the correct one?) We had expected the poolside bar to be open. Maybe some live music. Smores for the kids by the fire (we would've purchased this.) So many opportunities for improvement! We stayed at the cliff house in Maine last year and there was a number displayed around the resort that you could text and they'd send a message with info about was going on at the hotel that week! Such a memorable touch - Wequasset could consider something like this. All in all, not awful, but not blow-your-socks-off fantastic, either. Just plain average in the realm of resorts.

In the off-season the charm just increases three fold. No crowds, easy discounted reservations, the shops and eateries that remain open are rightfully worth your attention. Stumbling and bumbling into the Inn, door slamming, up the stairs, down the hall into his/her/their room, another slam. No regard for others at 12:30 am. One of the most unique places I have stayed in quite some time…read more First off, while it's not cheap, it's definitely way less expensive than everywhere else in the area - especially for having parking, being literally across the street from the beach, and being a 10-minute walk to the Main Street. You could park once and then not have to drive again for your time in Chatham. Also, it's very well equipped - the people who run the place know what people need for the beach and work hard to make it happen. There's towels, wagons, umbrellas and coolers. There's a communal fridge and an ice machine. There's a vending area for drinks and a continental breakfast and a wine hour. Also plenty of space for sitting outside and visiting with a view of the water. The beach across the street is really cute, too. The rooms themselves are quirky, but clean and workable with fast WiFi. The stairs are really steep so if you have any mobility issues at all I would recommend a first floor room. The bed was comfortable and the new AC was useful for blocking out next door neighbor noise. The bathroom was a bit weird - the sink counter was falling off the base a bit and the floor seemed soft/likely in need of replacement, but all was functional. The only really odd thing was that my room was next to a room which had a private bath not in the room but across the hallway, and the neighbors had both bathroom and bedroom doors open going back and forth as if it was their private area - I felt like I was intruding although I had to go through the hall way to enter and leave. However, it just added to the quirk!

While in theory it is walking distance, the area closer to CBI did not have sidewalks, so would not actually recommend walking. However, ubers were about $10. We were able to walk into town fully on sidewalks, but decided not to at night because we have heard cars are known for speeding in the area and the streets are quite narrow. Better safe than sorry. Back to Surfside...we absolutely loved it. We truly felt like we were staying with family. Chris provided thoughtful suggestions, always asked how our outings were and chatted to us about where we were headed out to. Everything was explained super thoroughly. We felt very safe and welcome. Breakfast (continental) was provided, which most hotels didn't seem to do - had basics like coffee and tea, oatmeal, hot chocolate, pastries, fruit, bagels and english muffins. They also always had granola bars around which ended up being super helpful to hold us over when we needed a snack during the day. They had a "vending machine" with a few alcoholic beverages available, as well as water, all reasonably priced. The Inn had more amenities than we expected - although not fancy, super helpful stuff like a fridge for everyone to use (we brought home leftover wine and food one night and were able to store it), beach towels, beach wagons, beach chairs, umbrellas, coolers and more all to borrow. There were two outdoor showers, a fire pit and nice porch, where happy hour was held each evening where they offered wine and cheese, which was so thoughtful! There was a business area and plenty of tables if you needed to do work. Our room had everything we needed - the only thing we would have liked is a full length mirror (hard to get ready for a wedding without one!) some type of closet (or just more wall hooks) and a few more drawers to put things away. Other than that, the bed was comfortable and clean, bathroom was standard and also clean, basic toiletries were provided and we had a table with chairs, hangers, night stands with big drawers and laps and working AC! Truly almost everything we needed. Would also love a pool, but I know that's asking a bit much! Something to consider down the line maybe. You could definitely hear other guests (for example, a baby crying in the next room), but people were definitely respectful of quiet time and there was no rowdiness. Something to keep in mind is that it's listed as 2-2.5 stars, which many people think reflects things like cleanliness and related aspects. Hotel star ratings rate what the hotel provides, from basic, no frills, a place to put your head down and shower to luxurious amenities. The Surfside Inn provided more than enough for our stay and the vibe was very Cape Cod! Would 100% come back - Thank you Chris for our great stay!
