Room 131

This is a fantastic place to stay! I had initially booked our room using Trivago. Somehow, I entered the wrong dates. Ugh. Had to make numerous phone calls to correct it, and the only room available was the handicap room (131). The room was spotless clean and appears to be recently renovated. It was a bit inconvenient having no sink in the bathroom, but we felt fortunate that we even got a room. We paid a bit less than $400 for 2 nights, which is a lot but this area seems to command high rates everywhere. The pool was very clean, and we enjoyed sitting at the pool and having a drink at the end of the day. The service was fantastic, and they were very friendly and helpful. I would not hesitate to recommend this place.

Cozy motel to stay in for a lovely weekend in Chatham. Conveniently located on Main street just a short way away from the main drag with restaurants and more. Decor is definitely a throw back to the eighties when you're inside... Old tv, dark wood walls and what not- but it's clean and the staff are friendly! For the price, I wish it we a little bit nicer, but recognizing the affluencey of the area- im sure it's actually a good deal.

It was shabbily furnished with cheap and tattered furnishings and the roughest towels I've seen outside of a hospital. Moreover, the place reeked of mildew. We stayed off-season and were not able to take advantage of summer amenities, but there was exactly zero to do on site in October other than buying overpriced food and cocktails. The hotel did not offer even the most basic hospitality essentials: no water in the main lobby, no one offered to bring bags to your room. Products at the spa were from the pharmacy and not even placed in pretty packaging. We had dinner at the Chatham Bars Inn farm and were told we had to arrange our own transportation. It would have been nice if the hotel offered a car or shuttle service to the event. Stars only for several lovely staff members, I apologize for forgetting their names! Shout outs to the concierge (young woman from New Haven), the breakfast staff (even though we were told the meal was included in our stay, which it wasn't), the guys at the coffee bar, and Sara who gave the best massage I've ever had. I've stayed at many 5 star hotels before and my stay at the Chatham Inn is by the best experience I've ever had. I literally can't recommend this place enough. I've spent a fair amount of career as a director for a market research firm and one of things we would preach is that differentiating on customer experience is key to winning in this age of the customer. Let me tell you, the Chatham inn literally puts on a master class from the moment you arrive. Arrival- I stumble into the lobby through the wrong entrance and the maitre d Lyn greets me by name and says we've been expecting you. (I was so blown away that she new my name, it made me feel so valued) Then when I went back to get my wife, Una met us on the walk path and helped us with our bags. (So nice!) Then Sherri the restaurant manager greeted us as well and let us know our dinner reservations were good to go. Then Lyn and Una both helped us to our beautiful room with the fire place where wine was on ice next to beautiful roses and chocolate that I ordered for my wife. By the time we relaxed we felt like we just arrived to stay with some friends. Literally everyone knew our names. Such awesome check in experience. Then the wife and I hopped out to get dinner, by the time we got back housekeeping had went in and tidied up our room. This was literally the best check in experience I've ever had. Dinner - so the next night I booked the 7 course Valentine's Day tasting. This was absolutely amazzzzingg. While we waiting for dinner, we had a wonderful conversation with Una, then Felix the beverage manner came over recommend some wine with dinner (side note h is so friendly and his wine reccos are spot on. I made a wine selection prior to arrival and he called and recommend a different one which was exactly what I was looking for!!), then Sherri the restaurant manager came over again just to check in with us, and then Kayla came over made sure we were all set as well. This all happened while we waited in the lobby for dinner... amazing. So when we got inside, we were greeted/seated by the owner Jeff (such a nice touch to see the owner working side by side with everyone). Then the waitress team was amazing. Our main waitress was Luz who was awesomeeeee. So thoughtful and friendly. But to be fair so was Elena, and Shawn. Shawn even had some wine sent back to the room for us to enjoy after dinner. Then Chef Isaac did the rounds and greeted all the guest. I could literally go on for days about how amazing my stay was. How this place got anything less than a 5 star review is mind blowing. If I could give them 6 stars I would. Thank you to Lyn, Una, Felix, Sherri, Luz, Shawn, Elena, and Kayla for making our stay a special one. Jeff you have a great team!

Hotel needs to let guests know that you have to be a mountain goat to climb the VERY steep almost vertical stairs. Towels felt like sandpaper. Food looked delicious on their website, but was not what we were served. Steak was burned, scallops were fishy and it took an hour and a half to get our food. I think the chef was taking a break. Scrumptious Chef breakfast was not scrumptious. We finally went to the lobby to get our own coffee, and water. And the most egregious thing was, the beach debacle...FYI, the hotel charges $500.00 to rent you chairs, an umbrella and towels. This was not disclosed to us and was refunded. We were so looking forward to our stay....its advertises the Inn as being a 5 star establishment...our experience was something more like a staying at the Marriott. Would NEVER recommend.

I now called the owners wondering where my refund is and he LIED!!!! Stating he never said that, when my husband and I both heard him say that explicitly and we have no reason to lie. In the interest of indulging in some booze, we walked to two different restaurants in the evening: the Red Nun (straightforward cape sports pub) and Campari's. Do not stay at for Hawthorne Motel…read more It saddens me to have to say that the quality of management has really depreciated so badly I would never stay at this motel again. My husband and I have stayed here for 10 years and this year with the management being Jeff and Kari we experienced the worst in hospitality that we have experienced in our 62 years of life My husband and I were traveling with our 2-year-old granddaughter and have stayed here for the past 3 years with her. Although the accommodations were modest at best we were treated well, and always returned same time each year. This year unfortunately we were met by Jeff who immediately started complaining about hot having to manage this because there wasn't anybody else in the family to do it. He was very aware that we will bring in our granddaughter asked if we even needed a pack and flight which we did not we had accommodations for her for the floor. The next day when I saw Jeff with my granddaughter he waved and said hi Gramm! Although we noticed a difference in the accommodations at the motel to name a few there was no luggage cart ( Jeff complained he was tired of people hitting the air-conditioning units with it) a soda machine ( he was tired of fixing it) there were no more small table next to the lawn chairs, we were provided a quarter of a sponge which was used on the sink when we arrived, a quarter paper towels in the paper towel holder a quarter toilet paper in the toilet paper dispenser - seemed like there was a need to severely cut costs ? In the bathtub the safety handle collapsed when used by my granddaughter ! A lamp was broken in the room and when I put it outside to be taken by housekeeping staff, Jeff appeared annoyed and short with my husband. By the third morning my husband was asked to be spoken to by Jeff and my son was also present. He proceeded to say how disruptive we were and that he was receiving complaints about us from other guests ! ( we had been there less than 48 hours at this time with our granddaughter ) Interesting our neighbors next door who we knew from last year told us they did not hear a thing and was shocked to hear this as well, " wow they really made you feel unwanted didn't they/" Jeff noted that I called tomy husband to bring her back from the car and felt that was disruptive. I've never been treated so offensively in a place that supposed to be hospitality focused in my life. Jeff even went on to say that a guest left " early" come to find out normal departure time was 11 and she said she left at 8 because we were noisy... We leave our room by 715am ! Follow on conversation with Jeff and Kari left us to feel like we were burden, unwanted and severely disrespectful of others and they had no choice but to put us in our place! They provided no viable explanation of disruptive behaviors that we would think would warrant this horrible treatment . My husband and I decided this was not a place we felt comfortable staying in for 1 more minute and left 3 days early. Kari and Jeff refused to refund our 3 nights stay- "good luck with that your card was aready charged" she smirked. So this is what it's come to at the Hawthorne Motel we will not be back and do not recommend others to visit unless they want to be subjected to an unstable unhappy individuals unwelcoming ways. The Hawthorne and severely needs updates, and if it's time for the family to sell it to get into the hands that somebody can make it enjoyable stay again soon.so be it!

Unfortunately, the inn recently changed hands and is no longer the warm, lovely, welcoming place that we knew. The first bad omen came at check-in when my husband inquired about the breakfast schedule and was told, "we're no longer serving breakfast because the kitchen is under renovation, but there are plenty of places in town where you can buy it." When I responded that the inn had always served breakfast, had advertised it, and that we were expecting it, the receptionist replied that the new owners had taken this amenity off the official website, and management was WORKING ON getting it removed from all other booking websites. Never were the words, "sorry" or "reimburse" uttered. When we arrived at our room in the carriage house, we found a dark, dingy, shabby room. Two of the three ceiling lights were out, making it impossible to read in the room. Moreover, there was no telephone to reach the front desk in the main inn, no instructions on how to use the TV, so we could not figure out how to get it to keep a signal, and absolutely no amenities that one would expect in a room that cost $2047.79 for three nights - not even a bottle of water. On top of that, we had to walk over bird feces covering the steps into our room, and the carpet was disgustingly filthy looking, with huge, dark stains all over it. The thought of getting up in the middle of the night barefoot and walking on such a carpet is disgusting (not to mention unhealthy, with bird feces tracked in on our shoes). When my husband took the ice bucket to the main building to get ice, the manager informed him that the ice machine was broken. Again, no word of apology. When he told her about the bird feces all over the steps, she replied,"we can't control the birds." Apparently, she never heard of using a hose and perhaps a brush. The manager's defensive, combative attitude was the last straw. When my husband expressed his frustration about all the problems with the room and her lack of interest in addressing any of our concerns, the manager told him that that if he didn't like it, he could leave. He said he might take her up on that, but he would want all his money back if we left. Shortly thereafter, the manager showed up at our room ostensibly to demonstrate how to work the TV (and probably to show that my husband was an idiot for not knowing how to manipulate the two remote controls for an unfamiliar TV). Since the manager was in our room, I pointed out the stains all over the carpet. She claimed that it had been cleaned. When I said that I could not believe anyone would pay for such poor work, she told me that if I didn't like it, I should call the carpet cleaning company! What!!! I told her that they had obviously opened too soon and were definitely not ready to handle guests. Fortunately, we were able to find wonderful lodging elsewhere in town and left. True to her word, the manager did refund our $2047.79.

You could park once and then not have to drive again for your time in Chatham. Also, it's very well equipped - the people who run the place know what people need for the beach and work hard to make it happen. There's towels, wagons, umbrellas and coolers. There's a communal fridge and an ice machine. There's a vending area for drinks and a continental breakfast and a wine hour. Also plenty of space for sitting outside and visiting with a view of the water. The beach across the street is really cute, too. The rooms themselves are quirky, but clean and workable with fast WiFi. The stairs are really steep so if you have any mobility issues at all I would recommend a first floor room. The bed was comfortable and the new AC was useful for blocking out next door neighbor noise. The bathroom was a bit weird - the sink counter was falling off the base a bit and the floor seemed soft/likely in need of replacement, but all was functional. The only really odd thing was that my room was next to a room which had a private bath not in the room but across the hallway, and the neighbors had both bathroom and bedroom doors open going back and forth as if it was their private area - I felt like I was intruding although I had to go through the hall way to enter and leave. However, it just added to the quirk!
