Its raining, and not just a little spit here and there. It took a little while to get here, as I had to deal with flooded grid locked roads and the crazy impatient drivers that seem to pop up all over the place when Mother Nature is at her worst!
I half expected this place to be empty, but I guess everyone else had the same brilliant idea of having a coffee and breakfast to warm the tummy undercover outside in the rain. I had been like a fish out of water during the heatwave so this torrential rain was just the perfect remedy to moisten my dried out scales!
It was packed, mainly with lovebirds due to Valentine's Day. My date was my mum.
We looked up and down the menu board, umming and ahhhing. Everything sounded so nice!
Did our usual order of lattes and our breakfast options. This is really the benchmark for most of our outings. The coffee HAS to be good! We are little fusspots when it comes to coffee, and food.
Quite awhile later we got our lattes. Cute teeny tiny cups, maybe a bit too tiny but the flavour was alright. Nothing fantastic. I felt good about having organic fair trade beans, but I was on the assumption that all their stuff was organic. So it was kind of a bit of a shock and surprise to see one of the staff come back with 2 litre bottles of Pura Milk that she had got from the small grocer just a few doors down. No wonder my coffee didn't have that creamy palate had it been made with b.d. Paris Creek or Fleureau Milk perhaps.
Hoping the breakfast was better than our coffees, once again a good wait later we finally got the plates plonked on to the table. My mum ordered the Mushroom Bruchetta with Goats Curd and I ordered the Cheese and Tomato Omelette. I have to say presentation let them down on this one. It just didn't have the WOW factor. I plate up my breakfasts better at home.
The food was good, everything was cooked beautifully and had lovely flavours. I got to try some of my mums dish and kind of wish I had ordered that instead. The tangy goats curd teamed with the mushrooms was a tasty combination. The bread they used was quite dry so was glad to get a small plate with a chunk of the b.d. Paris Creek butter.
While my experience with The Cooks Pantry was acceptable I do believe this place could be better. So with that I will come back to try again to see if things improve, because honestly, there is room for improvement when I compare it to some of my favourite breakfast joints. read more
