DATE OF VISIT: Sunday 8 May 2016 at lunch time with Caroline S…read more MENU: Small but good with a focus on light breakfasts, lunches and patisserie items. However they really need more Vegetarian and Vegan options and for these to be highlighted on the menu. Nonetheless being Northern Ireland's first licensed patisserie Miel et Moi definitely offer something different from the norm plus a great range of sweet treats and cocktails. FOOD: Absolutely scrumptious and flavoursome. However portion sizes are very small and it's therefore expensive. Our lunches of tomato, red onion and basil salad (£6.75) and goats cheese with carrot jam, herbs and toast (£6.50) were tasty but small for the price we paid, being more starter size than a proper lunch. We noticed a lot of diners around us opting for sandwiches (£4.95) which looked more substantial and economical. Others had quiche which appeared to be a very small slice for £8.50. We shared a mango and raspberry cheesecake which was decadent and probably similarly priced at £4.25 to desserts found in any restaurant. DRINK: Very good with coffees, wine, cocktails, gin and tonics all exceptionally good. COST: Expensive, our bill was £82.42 for 2 people. Coffee and patisserie items are a standard price but lunch dishes and cocktails are overpriced especially given the small portions e.g. a Kir Royal cocktail rings in at £9.95. We actually had very little food but ran up quite a large bill on just a few drinks. SERVICE: Excellent and attentive with all waiting staff extremely helpful and pleasant. We didn't feel rushed out of our table either and ended up sitting on for over three hours. RESTAURANT DECOR/ AMBIENCE: Wonderful especially on a sunny day as the outside seated area is a sun trap during early afternoon. Decor is French influenced with soft muted colours and there is a lovely relaxed yet luxurious vibe to Miel et Moi. IN SUMMARY: Miel et Moi serve delicious food but need more clearly marked Veggy meals on their menu. I found the service, food, atmosphere, drinks and ambience lovely but prices are high so it would definitely be more of a treat spot rather than somewhere I would visit frequently.

I sat on and had a few cocktails and was impressed with how these came out. Might have ended up having more than I should have but aww well it was Tuesday. I would recommend going here for visit!

My friends told me about it and I feel compelled to share the good news! So as the name suggests, it is a milkshake bar... and they also serve the odd cupcake. You can take out, or there are a few seats for sitting in. The decor is 50's diner style, bright pastel colours and really fun. But the main draw is the amazing milkshakes. They serve every kind you can imagine, blended up with good quality icecream and milk (none of that horrible flavouring added to milk lark). The menu is vast, so to take the pressure off deciding, they have a selection of house specials like the Elvis (peanut butter, chocolate and banana anyone?!) Or you can just opt for your favourite chocolate bar, blended up with icecream, which is what I did. I chose the Boost... it was delicious. Straight after I had finished, I wanted another one. I must warn you that once you have visited Got Milkshake? you will quickly become addicted! Ok, so the idea may be a bit gimmicky and I'm not sure how long their idea will remain unique, but the milkshakes are truely delicious and the price is pretty reasonable too - £2.60 for a regular, £3 for a large. The setting is great, right in the heart of Stranmillis village so a handy pittstop after a day of sunbathing in Botanic Gardens, or as a nice end to a meal. Like most good things in life, the milkshake bar is probably best in moderation. But great for a treat, a fun date, or the ultimate hangover cure. Enjoy!

Right, so the first thing I need to confess is that I don't actually like milkshakes, which makes…read moreit hard for me to review this place. However. It also sells cupcakes, and I am very well versed in the art of cupcakes! The cupcake I got the other day had ball bearings on it, which I love (I mean, it's edible metal!) Got Milkshake is quite a cute little cafe, with a 1950s vibe about it. It's really small though, so there are only a few tables in it. I couldn't really imagine sitting there for ages, so for me, it's more a get it and go place. The milkshakes themselves were popular with my friends though, and with so many ingredients on offer, you can have all kinds of weird and wonderful combinations (Wham bar milkshake anyone?)

Promises that is…read more I think I'll divide this review in two - one for the actual ice-cream itself, and one for this parlour. Just to make things a wee but easier. Here goes... Barnams isn't my favourite ice-cream, but it's definitely good stuff. There is a huge range of flavours - blue bubblegum, orange crunch (orange-coloured of course), neon yellow banana, as well as your more 'normal' flavours of vanilla, chocolate etc. You can get tubs, cones, fancy wafery things, sauces, waffles and much, much more, and the prices aren't too high. Sounds good, eh? Popping into Barnam's World of Ice Cream yesterday was an absolute must, and apparently the whole world and his dog had the same thought. Well, world and his child in this case... We waited patiently behind a multitude of screeching children who were selecting their ice-creams. One little girl was given her ice cream cone wrapped in greaseproof paper, which she didn't appreciate at all. "Muuuuuummmmmmy!", she screamed, "I don't want the paaaaaappppeeerrrr!!". Oh dear, oh dear. By the time all this drama was over, I was well ready for my tub of chocolate and Belgian chocolate. Or so I thought! I ended up not even being able to eat it all. Oh dear, oh dear (again). Just warning you...but the ice-cream ain't bad. At all.

Mainly for the awesome selection of flavours they have, the bubblegum is really nice as is the chocolate (shock horror). The only downside is that with Ice cream parlours comes screaming children. The spoilt brats of the Lisburn and Malone road residents are awful. My solution? Call in when they're at school and enjoy the wonder that is Barnams Ice Cream!

It was early, bright and warm and my initial focus was Hotel Chocolat for a great flat white. All the staff there are charming. Now, like it or not, as a customer I do like a tad of courtesy and an occasional smile when I'm out shopping - and especially in hospitality. Not much to ask for, I'm a please and thank you shopper and when I don't get it I usually brush it off but here irritated me yesterday (12 August 22). As I said the free pastry deal required £3.45 for the offered coffee and my choice of an almond croissant but I wouldn't return here. M&S do a far better almond croissant for £1. So the PV coffee was good but not great. 3 star. The PV almond croissant was a doughy 2 star and would benefit from lightness and more almond it's more a croissant that may contain almond. The server and service were both grim and minus 5 star and no one should need training to be courteous and mannerly. I stood inside for a few minutes. the only customer, I could see the young lady who was doing something several feet away. I expected her to come along to serve me but as I stood and waited she continued whatever she was doing. So I cleared my throat and coughed and my my dimensions I'm not quiet and at 6' 4 I'm hard to miss. But no reaction and no service so I coughed again - a real bad flu type but nowt. After several minutes coughing and throat clearing I just said loudly hello. It worked but as she approached she offered no greeting, no smile it was simply what do you want, so I chose my pastry and she made the coffee and bagged to pastry all while looking around and it was as if I wasn't there. I paid and she returned to what she was doing and here's what bugged me and tipped it over. I walked to a table to put the bagged croissant into my rucksack and she loudly snarled at me to tell me I'd ordered takeaway and had to go - that's how it came across - as if I was stealing the sugar. I simply noted I was bagging up the croissant and she did not say anything more. I left thinking wow that's not acceptable and downright ill mannered. No wonder I was the only customer there for quite a time. I went into Hotel Chocolat a few minutes away joined a queue and got a great coffee and a warm welcome. If you like ill-mannered, unpleasant staff and shoddy treatment this PV store will be right up your street if your not asked to leave oh and if you don't the good news Is there's an alternative is two minutes away.
