Ferrero Roche half choc egg with ice cream Easter special
Tara M.

Great ice cream. Love the mix ins. Choose stuf to be mixed in with your ice cream. Always very busy. Need more seating. Lighting is quite bright. Have a special hot choc menu. I had Reece's cup one. Was different. Hot choc is hot compared to luke warm stuff. Ice cream and desserts are in point. The apple tart is good. Carrot cake is too dry. Milkshakes are lush. Pooh bear ice cream is the best. Mix ins are lovely. Waffles and crepes are good but can be very heavy to eat. Need washed down with tea. Had a panini before. Good also. The staff deal well with a very busy shop. The dude that runs the floor is awesome. Obvious that he loves his job. Helpful, friendly and fast.

Berry mess ice cream...
Ciara S.

As I'll be doing the Great Vegan Challenge I wanted to try Cafe Mauds before November, so I visited today. An extremely helpful Waiter talked me through all the ice cream desserts. After asking what he'd recommend, then completely ignoring his suggestions, I opted for a berry mess. He had the patience of a Saint! This 'mess' consisted of mashed up vanilla ice cream, berries and chocolate. It was delicious. Unfortunately Mauds don't offer any dairy free alternatives such as fruit sorbets or soya based ice creams, which is disappointing. Mauds also don't have wifi, which is weird considering nearly everywhere does now! I would happily return to Mauds, but would probably just eat my food and run as it is a bit too bright (please turn down the lighting), too noisy (screaming kids) and devoid of wifi. Still, the savoury food of quiches, tarts and sandwiches looked really good so I'd like to return to try those.

Toffee Heaven Sundae
Emma R.

Actually surprising when I walked in cause it is usually very busy but I think the time I went today was a quiet time. I always love their ice-creams and got to try a new sundae called Toffee Heaven (would definitely recommend). Decent prices for quality of both savoury and sweet foods. The only one negative thing I would say is customer service could be a bit better but it did not effect my lovely experience.

Nata at Maud's, Lisburn Road

This Maud's seems to be busy most of the time and so it can be difficult to get a seat. They do great eclairs (both chocolate and caramel) amongst a wide range of cakes and pastries. I just wish that everything was always correctly labelled. So often I see unlabelled items and labels in the wrong place which irritates me but I still like enough things to go back, especially the eclairs. Recently they started doing custard tarts or natas (already familiar through Nando's!) and they are really nice.

The apple pie and tea was delicious but after waiting 30 minutes for our order, which ended up being wrong we were met by a very hostile and aggressive waitress who made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome, in fact another member of staff had to even step in and ask that the waitress refrain from discussing cusromers infront of other customers. an overall unpleasant experience. Won't be back, ruined a perfectly good evening. Feeling disappointed.

Rainy night sundae mish
Ru T.

I have been to Cafe Mauds a few times recently and it is very, very good (although it is at the far end of the Lisburn Road, boooo). They offer all the usual ice cream cones that any normal Mauds outlet like Belgian chocolate and Pooh Bear but a lot more sweet and savoury delights too. For instance, and I still can't quite believe it, you can get a proper Italian-style thin-based pizza!!! sweet and savoury crepes, and a huge selections of sundaes, milkshakes, 'mix-uns' (ice cream and toppings all mixed up together) as well as tea, coffee, hot chocolate and soft drinks.. The selection really is brilliant and you get time to make your decision as every time I have been it had been VERY busy catering for a very wide-ranging clientele from school-girls in chatting loudly, families with kids running about playing to the older generation enjoying a quiet cuppa. Despite this I've never had a problem with service, quality or getting a place to sit and I rather like the bustling atmosphere. I usually get a Pooh Bear mix-un but on my last visit I got the warm hot chocolate fudge brownie Sundae, compiling of a huge amount of chocolate ice-cream, but of fudge and brownies, lashings of chocolate sauce and whipped cream and by Jove it was spectacular. I have yet to sample a pizza or savoury crêpe but definitely on my next visit...!!

We got there first and we really only had a double espresso and croissant each. Both were very good indeed. Our companions arrived and ordered coffees too. They surprised us as we went to pay - they picked up the tab, decent of them so I can't report the cost. It's quite a large place once inside, and as we walked in at a front counter we were right next to a display of their rather expensive pastries and they looked delicious. The seats were comfy and the staff were a friendly bunch and they were super efficient. This place is on Belfast's Lisburn road, and although we had arrived just before 11am on a Monday morning we found on street pay car parking space very challenging to find indeed. I keep reminding myself that we are supposed to be in austerity yet the coffee bars are full and on street parking is at an expensive premium - seems austerity is only for the poorest and hammering down on our public services like the NHS, education and on and on. Think I'd rather pay fair taxation. It's become a much crazier world. As I write I hear Mr Trump on the radio claim he hasn't a racist bone in his body. I never thought I'd agree with him; he hasn't. The racism is evidently in his brain alone.

So I got a pre-packed sandwich instead which they heated on site. Still tasted great but I will have to go to botanic if I want to make up my own salad or sandwich for takeaway. Decided to try here and sit in this time (for lunch). Decor is lovely and the restaurant is more spacious than the other store. They have a small menu but also offer daily specials and separate vegetarian menu. One of the specials offered was a rare beef sourdough sandwich served with fries and hot sauce. Although the sandwich was tasty and a lite messy due to the coleslaw and rocket the beef was not rare. There was also quite a bit of fat around the edges of the beef. Opted for a watercess, feta, beetroot and quinoa Salad as a side order. For 3.50 this salad was huge but a bit salty. Unfortunately didn't have room for dessert but took a look at all the lovely treats on offer for future reference. Great to see they are licensed as well, I will be back to try out the dinner menu along with some cocktails.

These vegan ice creams are made from coconut milk and are completely dairy free plus they taste fantastic and exactly like a quality homemade ice cream instead of sorbet. I tried all 3 flavours of raspberry, mango and strawberry and enjoyed every morsel. Really luscious ice cream which was absolutely scrumptious and flavoursome. It's also great value for money as three large scoops cost £3 which is much cheaper than similar would cost in one of the many Froyo bars which have popped up in Belfast over the last couple of years. The Gent who served me was extremely helpful and knowledgeable explaining exactly what the vegan gelato was made from and telling me what Indigo offer. The menu is small but delightful offering ice cream, coffee, pastries and soup during cold weather. This little café which is larger inside than it looks outside has lovely bright décor and a relaxed ambience. It's ideal for a sunny day as the small outside seated area is a sun trap. Indigo is the true definition of hidden gem. I plan to return soon for coffee and more ice cream. There's free WiFi too which is always a bonus and beautiful artwork on the walls.

None appealing. Sort of defeats the point of this place being an ice cream shop. ********Love this place. It is one of my new fave places in Belfast. The ice cream is so on point. Tastes are very realistic. I had avocado and also sweet potato. So good. It's nice to have an alternative place to go instead of just going to get coffee. Especially as I am not a coffee drinker. Though I hear theirs is pretty good and also their tray bakes. Would be good if they had signs to tell you what flavours the ice cream was so the staff didn't have to tell everyone. Especially as I went to a tasting night. So the que was huge and that held it up. They have made good use of the size of the shop. Stretches right down the back. The price is good. 2 generous scoops for £2.50. Can't wait to return to try more flavours. They don't have a huge cabinet so it's gonna be hit and miss with the flavours on offer when I go. Fingers crossed they have the lotus biscuit and also the peanut butter and jam.

But worth stopping in. Once inside, the space opens up and is very welcoming. I ordered the green eggs on toast, and it was delicious (the sausages are an add-on, and in hindsight was unnecessary). The poach was perfect, and that green sauce is divine! But... I hope you brought some dental floss or a toothpick, because you will surely have embarrassing green bits stuck in your teeth otherwise. Top quality brekkie! The OJ tasted fresh with bits of pulp in it (although they do pour it from a jug in their fridge) and the latte is of a good quality. Not busy on a Monday morning. Staff friendly, and chatty with some of the delivery people, who I assume they see on a regular basis. If in Belfast for an extended period of time, would not hesitate to dine here again.

There was fuzzy stuff on the French toast that looked like asbestos or fiberglass. It was not, it was soft and sweet, but it sure looked odd. The poached eggs on sourdough with pesto was amazing. I also got a side of bacon. It was perfection. There is a cool little shop too. If I am back in Belfast, I'll be sure to stop back.

Second visit was also for a glass of wine which weirdly I was told by staff I couldn't order without also ordering food, so I left and went elsewhere, but found this strange as it wasn't the case on my previous visit. My third visit was today, Saturday 7 May 2016, for breakfast. Service today was a bit of a let down. On arrival a waiter showed me to a table which was filthy. No problem with that as he wiped both table and seats down (crumbs everywhere) but left everything soaking. Thus I had to dry off the chair myself with a tissue which I thought poor. I ordered a 'Brisbane Breakfast' which was one slice of sourdough bread topped with mashed avacado and two poached eggs. There was supposedly vegemite, feta and mint in it but I didn't really get those flavours coming through. Initially it tasted a bit bland so I added salt and black pepper which helped enhance the flavour. A nice enough dish once seasoned but nothing special and extremely extortionate at a cost of £8.50. I've had similar and more flavourful elsewhere for much less money. Additionally I ordered a large Americano (£2.40) and was horrified at the tiny cup of coffee I received. It was only when I paid my bill at the end of my breakfast that I realised they'd served me a small Americano (£2.20) in error. So in total my coffee and breakfast cost £10.70 which it really wasn't worth. Ultimately not a very enjoyable or relaxing visit. As well as feeling the food was grossly overpriced I found General Merchants to be uncomfortably packed with people and thus noisy and cramped. Waiting staff didn't bother to ask if my food was okay either while I was at my table nor when I went to the counter to pay for my meal. Overall very disappointing as I was happy to see this cafe open on Ormeau Road and initially loved the look of the menu, decor and ambience. However sadly it doesn't live up to my expectations and I now think of General Merchants as more style over substance. I won't be rushing back.

On the plus side it's hipster, looks lovely and the service is spectacular! But on the negative it's very expensive. My malt loaf toast with butter and a mini pot of jam set me back £2! But it came on a nice wooden board and was well presented - I think these days we're paying for that as much as the food itself! As mentioned the service is something special. As soon as I entered I was approached by a chap who was all too happy to help. He even guided me to a plug and brought me some bottled water while I browsed the menu! I got a nice seat by the open windows and watched the world go by! It was a lovely scenic setting for my morning coffee, which as it happens was fantastic. The rating would definitely be five stars if it was a little more affordable!

It's not because Conor's gone bad, but instead, this restaurant which was once so great, is now mediocre. I had dinner here tonight (Tuesday 12/04/2016) and the food was tasteless. My sweet potato, halloumi and portobello mushroom burger with chips was completely bland. Wine was nice, service lovely and the Artist studio style interior of Cafe Conor ensures it's still one of Belfast's most beautiful restaurants. Unfortunately all this is for nothing if food is a let down. I rated Conor 5 stars over a year ago but now it's a 3. This is not just based on tonight's visit alone, instead in the past year I've had a couple of lunches and dinners here, each flavourless and a bit of a let down. I kept returning because a couple of years ago the food from Cafe Conor was fabulous, tasty and luscious. Their halloumi, green bean and poached egg salad would have topped my list of all time favourite dishes. Sadly this dish is no longer offered. I hoped on each visit over the last year that I would experience some of the old Conor magic, but that never happened. I don't know why this is. Maybe the Chef changed, maybe the recipes changed or maybe the ingredients changed. From now on I'll be going elsewhere. Such a shame...
