We came to Comus Inn for Sunday brunch and we had a great experience. The restaurant has a nice farmhouse style decor And the food was delicious and fresh. We definitely had an enjoyable experience and would come back to try other items on the menu. The only complaint was my grandfather ordered apple juice which was $4 and was not freshly made and only was poured in half the glass and there was no free refills. Other than that, there are three different sections for seating--The full service dining, the outdoor dining, and the basement with the full bar and beer garden. It's an interesting concept and it definitely was a nice place to visit since it was able to accommodate our large party of 11. I ordered the avocado toast and it was a beautiful presentation and very delicious and fresh. Definitely "Instagram worthy" for a nice photo op and worth every bite. Our party of 11 were pleasantly surprised and everyone enjoyed their food. At our table, one person ordered the salmon Benedict, another person order the bagel and lox, another the croissant with ham and cheese, chicken and waffles. My husband had the pumpkin waffles and this was excellent as well since it came with cinnamon butter. Just perfectly cooked and crispy. The restaurant was clean and the service was prompt and friendly so bonus points from my perspective. Came here to celebrate a birthday brunch on a Sunday in May. We were a party of 8 people. Ambience: - beautiful outdoor setting - lots of kids running around - there was a live band so it was quite loud - benches/tables were big so it was able to fit all 8 of us - indoor setup is well thought out - one line for drinks, one for food, water jugs always available and bathrooms easily accessible Food: - overall thought the quality of food was quite high, but would have loved to see more vegetarian options - I got a fried egg sandwich without ham or bacon and it was still pretty great. The bun was super fresh and tasty - bagel w/lox was solid, nothing wow but a good predictable option - tater tots were nice, as expected - awesome apple fritter pastry from their bakery upstairs. This review is not for the sit down restaurant; we used to love it but have not had a chance to have a full meal upstairs since the new owners took over. Ambience for the beer garden is 10/10. Such a good spot to hang out. But... Beergarden food is a huge miss and a downgrade from what the former owners offered. Nachos, tacos, pretzel were terrible. They need to trash those recipes because it was seriously just slop. Drink prices too high. Really really hope the team will consider an overhaul because we used to love this spot. read more

What an experience. Fire pits, live music, lawn games and an overall wonderful atmosphere with fresh air and a lovely view. Staff was inviting, friendly, and very attentive. Best chicken and waffles in the Montgomery County area. That's how I am starting this review because it has to be said. Chicken and Waffles in restaurants I have tried for brunch have unfortunately become lazy and switched from fried chicken to chicken tenders (Barking Mad for example, even with how good that place is) but here at The Comus Inn is different. Their fried chicken is marinated in a brine that gives it a peppery taste, and they give you three huge pieces of chicken. The portion size here for what you pay is insane. The service is also great as well, the waiters I have had overtime here always know the menu and can speak to it. They also have an outdoor area with a bar that looks over Sugar Loaf mountain, so this place is the summer is a great place to hang out with friends. Nestled near the base of Sugarloaf Mountain, this cozy restaurant oozes rustic charm and ambience. We stopped by here after our hike at Sugarloaf and were pleasantly surprised by the cozy interiors, which had a farm country bed and breakfast feel. This place used to be the ultimate not so hidden gem. A community treasure. Unfortunately ever since the new ownership where they divided up the top floor and basement/patio into different establishments it's been horrible. Chef SammyD always kept the menu fresh and interesting, holiday events were unbeatable. He left during the reorganization. It is No longer the case. The whole thing had really lost its luster. Worse yet, the brewery in the basement. Extremely limited menu to what they had before and the quality is not worth the price. Easter "buffet"?? They folded in under an hour saying their kitchen was backed up.. and stopped. Old ownership handled triple the volume without braking a sweat. Tried coming back several times, going to stop so previous memories are continuously muddied by what's there now. Nice views tho. read more

It's not the Comus inn anymore. A new name however did nothing to improve the experience. It's a shame too because the area desperately needs a nice place to go. The food was at best mediocre and the drinks MUST have been cut w water. Service was polite but on 3 different requests for things like silverware, ketchup/condiments, drink orders etc, it was get up and get it yourself because the servers forgot we were there. All that for a hefty price. No thanks. Get the basics down, build from there. And seriously- we were a party of 4, out for a fun encounter, and the drinks situation was such a joke. It's like they got the bottles after the kids siphoned out the booze and put it can't in the liquor cabinet. At 16 bucks a drink too! For the food- it was burgers for all- nothing fancy except the name, and they were nothing to be proud of. I don't like throwing all this shade, but man, come on.. It can't be that hard to have someone give 1/2 a look at what's leaving the kitchen and bar and figure out it's So. Bad. Good luck to you- I seriously hope you find a chef, a bartender, and someone who pays attention to the tables and can direct the serving staff to make sure your guests are treated like people who will happily tip well, and pay a price that is worth the trust they should be able to have in your establishment. read more

What a cool spot! First time here and made a reservation for dinner. They were also hosting a wedding reception, so we were able to grab a table upstairs overlooking the beautiful scenery of Sugarloaf mountain. Ordered the gnocchi to start and it was delicious. Actually the gnocchi itself was just OK, but the sauce made with various mushrooms and peas was incredible. The homemade bread and butter came in handy to soak up the sauce. For my entree, I ordered the burger and it was awesome. It's actually 2 thin patties stacked with bacon, lettuce, tomato, etc. Very flavorful juicy burger! The accompanying fries were fantastic too. Thick cut and nicely cooked, it was probably some of the best I've had. For dessert, ordered the German chocolate bundt cake and it was so good. Very moist and dense with a great coconut icing. Apparently, they also have backyard patio seating that's first come, first serve. That's where the majority of the people were and they have food and drinks available out there too. Will definitely have to return to hang outside and try their other menus which include pizzas and BBQ. Great overall meal! read more

Tried the Beer Garden today at 1pm. Wanted to see how things have changed under new ownership. I can see from other reviews that I am not alone in being disappointed. The tocos that my friend and I ordered were just okay, but lacking flavor. Had to ask for some sauce, as they were dry. We each ordered a glass of wine at $12 a glass served in a plastic cup (not wine) glass. Completely overpriced for a Sunday afternoon. With each of us ordering 2 glasses ( to feel like we actually drank 1 glass worth) we spent $48!!!!! We could have had 2 bottles of wine for that price! No games out. We won't be coming back unless it is a Happy Hour! read more

This review is for the Beer Garden out back. The good- the music was great! The Mountain View was beautiful and so was the weather. Plenty of seating with shade. The bad- the food. We ordered a Bavarian pretzel which was stale, crusty and dry. The cheese sauce was runny. They were also out of tortilla chips at 3 PM on a Saturday. We also waited 30 minutes for a strawberry lemonade. Definitely need to work on the food and service. We really wanted to love the place, but it was seriously lacking. read more

We live just down the road from the Comus Inn and for a while it was a favorite "local" spot for us to bring our dogs and the kids and meet up with friends. We were disappointed when the former owner sold it, but hopeful that the new owners, who had more restaurant/brewery experience, might be able to iron out some of the kinks that always seemed to plague the last owner. We had the opportunity to try out the beer garden last week and we were so disappointed. The tacos were runny and falling apart. The nachos were underwhelming. The pretzel was dry and the dip for it was, and I am not exaggerating here, disgusting. There's no kids menu, no games. The entire feel was off and it made me sad. The views are still incredible and they're the only reason this isn't two stars. We've also been disappointed that there hasn't been much local music. There is so much talent right here in MoCo. I'm all for hearing new musicians, but it would be nice to have a mix of new and local. Maybe I'm being too harsh. Maybe the new owners have a vision that just doesn't align with what I hoped for the place and that's ok. I plan to try out the dining room and would like to do the beer garden again, just in case it was an off day. If things pick up I'll update my review. But for now, I'm just disappointed. If I'm going to spend close to $100 for my family of 4 to eat and get a few drinks, this isn't somewhere I'd recommend. read more

We wanted to plan a nice ladies brunch on a Saturday. I was able to make reservations that week for 5 people easily in OpenTable. The scenery is beautiful and perfect. When I arrived I checked in with the hostess and she was able to seat me immediately. We sat at a nice table downstairs which had access to an outdoor view. I ordered coffee and a drink. We ask ordered two pastry baskets for the table. It included a variety of fresh pasties, which were delicious. Our server was very pleasant, we just felt that service could have been just a bit quicker. We also had an issue at the end with the bill, but it was resolved. I ordered the sandwich with bacon, egg, and cheese on brioche ....it was huge! I really enjoyed it. It was fresh and tasted yummy. First time with the new owners. We went Saturday night and it was crowded but there was space to sit. The beer prices were reasonable and there was a good selection. They do mixed drinks also. The food was good but pricey. Three nice tacos for $15, could have had more meat in them. But you are paying for the view and at sunset it is worth every penny. Staff is also great. read more

The location is lovely, as always, but ever since the change of owners... it truly is not the same. I was so excited to check out the outdoor area this week. To try out the beer garden and the food. Unfortunately, the food is not good. The pretzel is dry, the cheese sauce is gritty and the nachos are a mushy mess. I miss the crab pretzel and the lovely pizza they previously had, which was crunchy and delicious. The outdoor area has also been made bland and not fun. Before there were games and a more low key atmosphere, now it seems the new owners are trying another route. There are more setting places, but far less grassy area... more of a boring winery vibe. The Comus Inn charged me a $100 reservation cancellation fee. I was forced to cancel a reservation for a party of four for Thanksgiving when a member of our party was suddenly hospitalized. His situation is serious and his wife can not leave him. I contacted Comus immediately when he was admitted. This was well over 24 hours prior to the reservation. My husband and I were traveling from out of town and canceled our trip because of the emergency. Comus refused my request for a waiver for the fee and charged my credit card within minutes. Their response was: "Please understand all that goes into a day like this and just one reservation makes all the difference. We will not be able to recover your table with other guests at this point." At the time Comus sent this message their website advertised that they were still taking reservations for Thanksgiving and gave a telephone number to call. I'm betting the table my friends and I were to have had tomorrow will be filled with other diners happily paying the $68 per person charge. My $100 cancellation charge is a bonus for them. read more

Me & my friends went hiking at sugarloaf nearby and wanted to grab some lunch afterwards! It was chilly day but it was a cute place! We opted for outdoors since some of us brought dogs but there was a lot of seating both inside and outside. Definitely a cool place to check out! I do wish they served pizza at time we came though. The food options seemed limited for a Saturday morning and pizza didn't start until 2pm from what we heard. But definitely a nice place to check out if you're in the area! read more

* This is all NEW as of 11/2020! Should really be a new listing all together! * First of all WOW! This place needed a refresh for a long time and it now has it. It is a complete redesign and is now wide open with beautiful light, modern architecture and a completely fresh menu, bar and outdoor dining area. Outside you have plenty of tables, an oktoberfest feel of many long tables, band stage, lawn, fountain... just beautiful. The old basement which used to seem dark and dreary has somehow been freshened with great light, beautiful floors and clean furnishing. The whole place is gorgeous inside and out. The beer list is 12 long. Some nice selections but could use more local options since MoCo and Frederick have such great local breweries. I think a strong craft beer rotation will keep people coming back to visit. (3 out of 12 were local when I visited) The menu is very fresh with a lot of nice things to try. If you have an appetite and like BLTs, definitely get their take on it with the two handed BLTA. It's awesome on two large slabs of crisp fresh sourdough. I also had the fried chicken that was very good. We got the harvest salad with grilled chicken and wasn't impressed (salad lacked much green and the chicken was dry and flavorless) but they had also only been open a week. We also tried the house made pierogies (3 for $11) and were underwhelmed. From other pictures posted and feedback from friends, it sounds like the chips, brussel sprouts and burgers look amazing. We will definitely be back to graze our way through the menu and beer list which was promised to change continuously. From a food allergy standpoint there was not a good Gluten Free option. The cauliflower steak was offered (but they were out of it) and they made that harvest salad with GF care, but it wasn't that good. When normal non-pandemic service opens up, they also had nice long tables in the basement with outlets that would be great for working remote. On the pandemic front they were very clean. Checked our temps on the way in, cleaned everything we touched, and excellent proper mask usage by staff. Loved it!!! read more

Yum, yum, yum: the view, the food, service... We began with a reservation for 5pm, the beginning of dinner service. First in and best seats. So there's not really a bad seat, but these seats faced the mountain without obstruction. We snapped shots of bright sun on glistening snow, followed by a brilliant sunset and ending with some wonderful candle shots. The food was tasty, too! The photos can't catch the way that sweet Salmon danced in my mouth. The broccoli was grilled to perfection. The shrimp and grits, what? I do not have words! We were full and took dessert in a box, no picture because créeme brûlée doesn't travel well! The host and waiter were personable and knowledgeable. When asked tough questions, the waiter returned with delicious answers. Be warned that the bar has a wall behind it, the only thing that can be heard was possibly the dishwasher. Though they are only in a soft opening phase under the new ownership, the Comus Inn has been amazingly renovated. The exterior hasn't changed much, other than the shuffleboard and beer garden environment outside. Our group ate inside for lunch. The parking lot was very full, but they had no problem seating our group of 7 immediately. The interior renovation is amazing, with the decor immediately putting me at ease. Beautiful views from the dining areas with a relaxed rustic feel. The menu was essentially bar food that had been kicked up a bit. The grilled cheese had multiple kinds of cheeses, and was smooth as silk. I also had the Dorito crusted macaroni and cheese, which blew my mind. The staff was friendly and on point, everyone seemed confident in what they were doing, and keeping things flowing. I didn't partake, but the beer menu seems very diverse, with something for every palate. One unexpected hitch- they do not take cash, which was unexpected. No big deal, but be ready for it. The main parking area isn't bad at all, but if you're on a bike, watch the overflow lot, which is gravel and uneven. It's sad what the new owners have done here. After a lot of great times here before it changed hands, we tried it again on a Saturday. They took out the couches downstairs and the shuffleboard outside, added much more seating, and the food is just nowhere close to the same level, it's bad, and there are way fewer food options, but the food prices are the same. They also closed the ice cream out front, who does that? We won't be back except for drinks maybe--but one beer and one cocktail we're $25 so we'll probably pass on this place. I enjoyed the farm to table food, but I wish the menu had a little more variety with the menu, but the food they did have is yummy. And Sela was the sweetest server. If you're looking for a bbq inspired brunch, this is the place to go. Honestly for their first brunch I think they did a pretty good job. My only recommendation would be to add a little more options to the menu. The atmosphere is awesome. It's like a branching winery. They have board games and a nice outdoor set up for seating. The staff is very polite and welcoming. I'd go back just to be seated in Sela's section. She made the experience that much better! read more

Overall I'm giving the Comus 3 stars because it has a cozy ambience with a lovely view and good service, but my dinner there tonight left a lot to be desired. It started out well, we were seated in comfy leather chairs by the windows. We ordered the Caesar salad and carpaccio to start. The appetizers were excellent, both were dressed with zesty sauces. It had me expecting the rest of the dinner would be great. But it went downhill from there. I ordered the brick chicken, the presentation was nice but as soon as I took a bite it was extremely dry, too dry to eat or to warrant a $30 entree. They were apologetic and let me pick something else. So I chose the salmon. It was described on the menu as prepared in "gribiche" sauce. I asked what that was and they said an egg mustard sauce. I was expecting something like a bernaise or hollandaise sauce. The salmon was cooked perfectly, medium on the inside with crispy skin. But the sauce was terrible, if you could call it a sauce, it was more like a concoction made of chunks of actual egg whites (weird) mixed with some greens, and I guess what was supposed to be butter. The plate was a well of oil that I tried to drip off my salmon with every bite. It was so heavy and salty and I did not feel good after eating it. My husband ordered the crab cake sandwich which was very good, but the fries on the side were very dry. We ordered dessert- the carrot cake again was dry. I also ordered the cannolis. The filling was not the rich ricotta I am used to, it was more of a mild, bland whipped cream, and there were too many chocolate chips that were dry and flavorless. Although the view is beautiful, we were there right around 5-6 a o'clock and it got SO hot we couldn't take it, by the end of dinner we were overheating and had to get out of there. Maybe some blinds or moving the tables out away from the window a little more would help. I really want to support our local restaurant scene but I have to be transparent when we spent $150 on dinner to enjoy very little of it. read more
