We went to this restaurant on a Saturday night - The service was very good but the food was overpriced and not very good. I had the chicken w/apple stuffing. It was so dry I was afraid I was going to choke on it My partner had chicken parm but it wasn't chicken parmigiana It was a chicken patty with cherry tomatoes on top - that was very bland and dry as well. Went in to common man in Windham last night with my husband, 12 year old, and 3 year old. We heard about the new menu and wanted to check it out! We had the new pork belly bites, meatballs, and chicken empanadas. WOW! Everything was amazing! It was like an explosion of flavor with every bite! Our entrees were just as incredible! Our server Katie was knowledgeable, kind, and one of the best we have ever had! She was amazing with our 3 year old! We didn't feel rushed and were able to enjoy each item ordered before the next came! The manager Paul came by the table to check in on us. He was funny, full of energy, and made us feel like they were very happy to have us dine in! We will be sure to be back and check out the upstairs live music that he informed us about! Great restaurant! From the time you pull up to the time you walk-in and sit down, this feels like a home. The food was great and very much a comfort food type of restaurant. I had a lightly breaded fish with mashed potatoes and green beans which was delicious. Others in our party had varying meals but all of them were of the county variety and everyone was happy with their choice. My favorite part by far was the cheese spread and crackers that I could help myself to while I was there! I'll most definitely be back (a few times) next time I travel there from Chicago. read more

Came here for brunch after a blessing for my niece and I wasn't really impressed. We had the brunch and we rented the upstairs section of the restaurant. For starters it was an incredibly hot day and there was no A/C and on top of that the roof was leaking all over some of the tables and chairs. The food was really hit or miss. Eggs were way too cheesy and I couldn't even eat them. The bacon was just riddled with grease and really fatty and flabby. I've been to the Merrimack location and I thought that place was much better. The only good part of brunch was the non brunch. There was some pasta and chicken that I spent more time with. read more

This was my first time there and I will return. The complementary cheese and crackers was delicious. I started with the lobster corn chowder and I can even enough good words to do scribe. Best, very best corn chowder I've ever had and the liberated was fresh and tender. My drink was made perfectly and the entree, steak tips with a baked potato and fresh green beans was cooked to my request. I started with French onion soup which barely had any onions in it. My husband got the soup of the day, tomato basil which was like a warmed up can of pasta sauce, they did take that off the bill which was nice. I've been to The Common Man twice with big groups both times, once a party of 8 and once a party of 10. Both times we had Ann W who was absolutely amazing. I wish I had read the reviews before going. We'd been here before (years ago) and thought we would return for a birthday dinner. We were a party of 8 (but 3 of us ordered the same meal, and 2 others ordered the same meal plus one additional meal, and 2 kids meals). First, we called ahead and were told we'd be all set to be seated right away when we arrived. We arrived 20 minutes later, checked in and were told it would be another 30 minute wait. We watched about 10 parties walk in after us and get seated which is odd because they don't take reservations. Hmm, ok. Perception is reality. We are finally seated 35 minutes after we arrived. We sit for at least 10 minutes before a waitress comes over. She brings glass goblets of water for all of us, even though we have 2 small children with us. She puts a glass water goblet in front of them. I grab the glasses and ask if they can have plastic cups with straws, she agrees but they never come. Waitress seems like she just doesn't want to be there. She asks for our drink order but one person from our party was up getting crackers and cheese. I tell her that he'll be right back (and I didn't know what he wanted to drink). She walks away and doesn't return for another 15 minutes. She takes our drink order and I actually have to ask her if she can also take our dinner order. By this time we've been sitting for at least 30 minutes. She takes our order and we have to ask two times for bread. She comes back with 6 rolls (there are EIGHT of us). No word of anything, drops the rolls and leaves. One of our party goes looking for more rolls. Waitress comes back about 10 minutes later with more rolls, obviously reheats. So by this time it's been about 45 minutes since we sat down. We're starving and basically filled up on the free cheese and crackers. Looking back that was the best part of our meal, which is really pathetic. Our food finally arrives - but oh wait, 4 out of 8 of us are served. Another 10 minutes goes by, 3 more of us are served. One last guest didn't get his food until we were almost finished eating. The waitress was lifeless and should not be in the customer service industry. We watched the manager walk around to tables and seemed to avoid us until we were almost finished and tossed a couple of free appetizers cards at us. They ended up comping (we didn't even ask for it) the final meal that was delivered. So, I get it. My husband and I have both worked in the food service industry. So many things went wrong tonight. I've only told you about the service. The food was nothing compared to what I've received in other Common Man restaurants. I ordered the turkey dinner (that we were told is a Sunday night special - there is NOTHING special about it). I was served 2 slabs of 1 inch thIck turkey loaf. It didn't feel like a turkey dinner with all the fixings. The stuffing was the crusted bottom of the pan leftovers. It was literally a clump of stale bread with something mixed in. The mashed potatoes were ok, but nothing to write home about. And the two bites of cranberry sauce, can't forget about that tiny ration. Again, I felt like we were interfering with their night. I've heard great things but won't be back. We should have just left the free appetizer coupons on the table as a sign that it didn't make up for our lousy night. Oh yeah, it was my birthday too. My grandson was so excited that he told the waitress at least 3 times. But it didn't seem to matter. Funny that the table next to us was sung to and were brought cake. Oh well. Okay, it's been over a week since I went, and I'm finally not as angry as I was that night and can write a review. I went on a Saturday night, which is understandably busy. I had called ahead the night before for myself and cousins and our spouses to eat. There was 8 of us total. My husband had to drive around for 10mins looking for a spot. They don't do reservations, only a shortened wait. My brother and SIL got there 15 mins before 6, and was told 1/2 hr wait. Around 7 we finally sat. Our server took a really long time to get over to us. We were never given a drink menu. She got there and we asked for one, which she did give to us. Drink took an insanely long time to come out, and we didn't get anything super complicated. We have the drink, then finally she comes over to order our food. After a half hour, probably more like 45 mins, my cousin, who has primarily worked in a restaurant industry for years, asks her where it is. (This was also when we finally got rolls) She responds "has it really been a long time? I guess I'll check." I get it, it was busy, but really? So she checks, and 10 mins later our food comes out. Everyone else's was piping hot. I got a burger that was stone cold, and stone cold fries. I was trying my hardest to ignore it because I was starving at this point, but then I find this massive white hair across my food. Nope, I'm done. Totally lost my appetite. They of course make me another one, which I don't even want. And she had to make sure she told me we wouldn't be paying for it. Which I wouldn't have anyway, not with the status of it We all finish eating (well everyone else, because mine didn't even come out until after everyone was done. Nice on the fly order.) the server tells us (myself and husband) that he Gm said we can have dessert free and gives us the menu. 20 mins later she comes out and says the whole table gets free dessert because of the ridiculousness. And we all get a drink taken off our orders. 20 mins after ordering dessert still isn't there, and my brother and SIL need to go somewhere. It comes out, they eat insanely fast pay and leave. My husband and I got our Bill, and not much we were promised was taken off beside my burger. I say something, and then two drinks the dessert and burger were taken off. Total time there:3.5 hours I will never come back to this location. This was among the worst experience I've had. Two stars because the drink I got was fabulous. My husband and I stopped in for dinner Sunday evening April 10th. Sat upstairs in a high boy. Due to shortage of staff, the bartender and one server were working. Bar was full but they had to close off tables because of staff shortage. These two employees were so positive and did not miss a beat. The bartender kept checking on us, food was delicious and we really had the most pleasant time! Hope managers read this...they truly are the hardest workers I have seen in quite some time. read more

Haven't been there in years so was excited to revisit. I was so disappointed. We were upstairs in the bar area. While deciding where to sit - bar or seats, we noticed that there were many spots that were vacant but still had dirty dishes and/or glasses. It was mid-afternoon and not busy, so we weren't sure why this wasn't cleaned. Pros: 1. our waiter Joseph was very pleasant and attentive 2. The scallops were perfectly cooked. Cons: 1. The menus were gross - sticky and crusted with dried food particles. 2. The table was sticky and the chairs were in need of repair - very wobbly. 3. Drinks came with stuff stuck on the outside of the glass. 4. the bathroom needed attention. The waste basket was overflowing when we got there and 3 hours later, it still had not been cleaned. 5. both side dishes (green beans and baked potato) were barely warm The place needs a revamp and more attention to detail. read more

Hadn't been to The Common Man in 15 years and now I know why. There were 4 in our party and not one had a memorable plate. To summarize, the steak tips were chewy, the crab cakes dinner had zero lump meat and I'm not sure how much shredded crab was actually in it. And, they were lukevm warm and overcooked. My wife ordered the Filet Mignon medium rare, but it was actually raw and she couldn't eat it. The shrimp and bacon appetizer was overcooked and too small to share. Don't bother going up for the complimentary cheese plate. They did comp us for the Filet, but my wife ended up going out to dinner and not having dinner. We will never go back. read more

Called on Thursday to make reservations for Saturday night but they don't take reservations. We arrived a little after 7 expecting to wait, which is understandable for that time on a Saturday night but we were "greeted" by the most unfriendly people just standing around at the hostess station. they informed us there would be a 50 minute wait. We said that was fine and said we will just go upstairs to the bar to grab a drink while we wait but they told us we couldn't because there was no room up there either. My opinion is, one of them who didn't look very busy to me could have offered to get us something while we wait in that very small foyer they have but that would have meant they had some sort of good customer service. I only have two problems with this place: 1) The food is so heavy and I feel like there's a brick in my stomach after I leave. 2) Wednesday nights. I have eaten downstairs, but I almost always go for the lounge upstairs. It's a great place to hang out with friends, and there are so many great things about it. The serve-it-yourself cheese and crackers and the Trivial Pursuit cards on each table keep us busy and happy while we're waiting for our food. My favorites are the macaroni and cheese pizza and the homemade potato chips. I don't usually get dessert, but I've had a sundae and it was as good as a sundae can be expected to be. Either way, I'd definitely recommend this to anyone as a great place to hang out and have a snack. Oh, and take a trip to the bathroom while you're there. It's... an experience. Always Wanted to try this place so i convinced hubby to go... Atmosphere was great they were practicing safe distancing and everyone was wearing a mask while walking on the floor... We ordered Dinner I ordered the NY Sirlion with a baked potato mine came out med Rare when i ordered it med so off the steak went but she left my potato... Hubby Ordered a Strip Steak Meduim and his was still mooing, they took his steak as well but left his potatoes.. So now we have our sides but no main dish. We waited about 15 minutes to get our steaks back and they had new sides but by then we were full from eating the first sides.. I would try them again as the food wasnt that bad.... I went here for a rehearsal dinner for a wedding. The food was fine, there are little stations for crackers and different cheeses that were pretty good. We were a big party and had a limited menu. I got the steak and potatoes, I ordered it medium well and it definitely came out on the rear side. The steak was very chewy and fatty I've definitely had better I should have gotten the burger. When we were there the ceiling was leaking near a light and they put a bucket underneath it and didn't move the table next to it. Place was fine wouldn't be my top place to go read more

I have long loved the upstairs lounge, but went for Easter dinner buffet and have to say I was disappointed. Reservations were for 4:30 and they ran out of Pot Roast, one of the best items, so I wasn't able to have any. Remaining was the Haddock Florentine which was ok but bland, as was the Chicken Provincial. Overall food was Mediocre. Will not return for Easter dinner, but will to the lounge. read more

I've been to the Common Man in Lincoln and it was awesome! I'm not impressed with this location. I've been here several times and the food was not fresh. It was not crowded, not late, and on a weekend..... The location is nice and the restaurant is clean, but not worth returning to unless they get their act together. read more

Excellent meal here the other night. Very cozy and spacious setting, with a fireplace in the middle. Food was excellent. They serve complimentary cheese and crackers as well as a wonderful bread basket. We had the tuna poke appetizer, I am not sure of the correct name but it was so tasty and the sauces were excellent. I had the Boursin burger, and I wished I had a photo of it, as it tasted as good as it looked. Nowhere could you get a burger like that for $13.00...It had Boursin cheese, bacon, caramelized onions and other stuff on a brioche bun. I would come here for that alone! My wife and I got stuck in traffic on 111 in Windham while trying to get to the Old School Bar and Grill, we decided to take a detour and ended up at the Common Man. We found a nice table upstairs in the bar / lounge area we were greeted and provided both drink and dinner menus and informed about the specials. The server came over to take our drink order and then came back to take our dinner order when she brought our drinks. The whole experience was great. The food was fresh and delicious, great presentation, no room for desert. I highly recommend the Salmon BLT Salad and the Lobster Corn Chowder, also the Burbon smash drink and the Hot & Dirty Martini, can't wait to go back. read more

We hosted 18 people at our company's annual banquet at the Common Man in Windham in January 2017. The room was very nice & the wait staff were friendly, accommodating and attentive. Half of our party ordered the crab cakes, which were delicious. The other half of the party ordered the NY Steak. Unfortunately the quality of the beef was terrible and poor preparation made it inedible. 8 out 0f 9 guests could not and did not eat it. The steaks were under cooked, unseasoned, cold and fatty. On top of that, those who tried to eat the steak found it so tough even the serrated steak knives couldn't cut through it. The cost of the steaks was removed from the bill. But that did nothing to help the half of the party that left hungry and unsatisfied. If the Windham location had instead give each person who ordered the steak a $25-30 gift card, perhaps some of them might give it another chance. As it is know, I don't see why any of us would go back. read more

We have always been Common Man fans because of the service & food quality however, after today our opinion was completely changed today. We chose Windham because it was central to all (6) of us (from out of state). We arrived about 30 minutes before the restaurant and were told we cannot leave our name for a table till 10:00 (when they open) and that's fine by us. When the hostess started taking names, our name was the first on the list. As the hostess started calling names, we noticed groups of 2, 4, 7, 9 people get seated and we were still waiting. We asked if they take reservations and were told no reservations were taken. As we watched 35-40 people serve themselves on the buffet, I asked aren't we seated and was told they are not ready for us. We finally got seated at 10:30 in the upstairs lounge and we were the only ones in the room. Not sure what they had to do to get ready for us? The server took our drink order and we went to the buffet. The cinnamon roll was ok, the scrambled eggs, hash, bacon, frittata, potatoes, quiche was below average in quality and cold. The fruit salad was excellent. The custom omelets were warm (not hot), small and did not have the ingredients that we requested and the roast beef did not look liked it was sliced with a sharp knife but was more shredded. Was the buffet worth the $53 per couple? We didn't think so. read more

Common Man a few weeks back decided to start closing at 9:30 Sunday through Thursday, a full hour and a half before they used to, What an awful idea. They literally turned away a dozen customers at the door at 9:30 and we saw more than one person go down the street to a new place called Old School. You have brand new competition and you close almost two hours early? Common Man was a late night favorite of the locals and Old School is a literal minute drive away. Way to drive your customers into a new venue, Old School was and is consistently packed with former Common Man customers. Awful, stupid, and flat out bizarre decision. read more

A great date night place. Food is great and it's very relaxing. They have different theme nights, with Wine Wednesday (half price wine) being my current favourite. There are couches you can cuddle on and it's fun to scribble little notes in the books they leave the bill in. Maybe if you're lucky you'll get some shaved chocolate for dessert. I can recommend the Apple Chicken and Tollhouse Pie, wholeheartedly. And the blueberry lemonade isn't shabby either. read more

I was visiting the area for work and a co-worker had recommended this restaurant. I was thoroughly impressed with the food and the staff. I don't typically get red meat while I'm visiting NH, but a NH friend recommended that I try the steak there. I'd already had my fill of lobster, haddock, and clam chowder while visiting, so I tried it. Absolutely DELICIOUS!!!!! It was just so good! I also had the cheese and crackers and mashed potatoes. It truly is a great experience and a beautiful place. I had two cocktails and they were also delicious. What made my visit sooooooo special was that they honestly could NOT have been nicer. To a tee.... everyone we walked by on the way out thanked us for coming and wished us a good evening. Maybe that's normal for NH folk, but being from out of town, I found that so endearing. Instead of mints, they give you white chocolate as after dinner treats. I don't even like chocolate, but ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? My favorite table-mates were sure enjoying that! Well, we don't love it here anymore. We called to see if they would take call-ahead seating since it was Friday evening, and the hostess assured me that there was no wait. No wait at all. I said that we would be there within a half an hour, but she said there would be no trouble at all. I mean, I called with the intention of using the call-ahead option in order to be seated quickly when we arrived. We arrived and guess what...there was a very long wait, and no free tables upstairs, either. It was packed. Packed! Either the hostess was inept, (and very officious, arrogant and snotty to me and our party on top of it), or the hostess lied, or the entire place filled up within ten minutes. Either way, we were so frustrated with them that we doubt we shall ever return to this restaurant. How sad. read more

I had never been to the common man before, and I have to admit, I really enjoyed it! We got free cheese and crackers to start and bread, and I ordered the salad with Gorgonzola and hazelnuts as well as the loaded baked potato soup. My friends got scallops and chicken pot pie. We enjoyed everything and found both the food and service to be very good. We ended with a great desert and complimentary white chocolates. The environment in the restaurant is super cozy and comfy - they had a lovely fire going and we were very comfortable. I would definitely return!! read more

Very dissatisfied with the service and overall experience. Upon sitting down we waited about five minutes for our waiter to introduce himself. We then ordered two waters with lemon. We did not receive our beverages until about 15 minutes and he took another trip to get lemons. After another trip and sitting down for about 20-25 minutes we finally were gifted bread. About 10 minutes after that the waiter brought out another basket of rolls and said that the food is still cooking. However, before we were able to take our first bite of the roll our food was at the table. This clearly provides a lack of communication between the staff. read more
