It's the people... The variety is excellent - whatever you like in coffee, whether you know what you want and stick to it or you're a novice, trying to find your thing or you're adventurous, looking for a new thing... they have it. But that's not why I give this place 5 stars. The space itself is excellent. It's comfortable, cozy and inviting, despite a tricky location. It's well designed and lit and has a giant window to view that actual roaster. But that's not why I give it five stars. The people love coffee... Like, they looooooove coffee! And they know coffee. I went in and they said "How can we help you?" And I said "I want to buy coffee, but I don't know what I want." And both employees lit up. They know the coffee language AND how to explain it to a novice without making you feel like a novice. And the more feedback you give, the better their next suggestion will be. The team here is camped right at the intersection of passion and knowledge and their love for it is contagious. I look forward to emptying a bag - yes, because it's delicious - but also so I can go in and talk to them again! read more

Wow I use to drive by here for years but never actually went! I'm so upset that it took me this long to go in! The staff are so knowledgeable and friendly! The coffee is really good as others have mentioned, I LOVe that their coffee doesn't have that after taste when you drink it, it has a clean bold taste which is very hard to find in coffee!! my favorite part is that you can buy grounds here WHOLE or ground but if you bring back the coffee bag you get a discount, and they seem to have a lot of regulars that come in! Found this place on Yelp while I was visiting Lincoln. The owners were super knowledgeable and friendly. They were about to walk out the door when I stopped by and took the time to lead me in the right direction for type of beans I should buy. If you're in the Lincoln area you should definitely check these guys out. Did I mention you get a sample to try while they bag up your beans? I live in Austin and had to fly with the coffee and literally the aroma was noticed by security and probably everyone on the plane! These guys have a good thing going! Support them! I began buying coffee here a couple months ago on a friend's recommendation. I purchased some Peruvian coffee (course grind) and, really, it's the best coffee I've had in years. I stopped buying K-cups! The staff has great expertise in helping you find the desired strength, flavor, and grind. I brew it in a Krups automatic drip pot with a gold filter--1 level tsp of coffee per 3 ounces of water. I'm hooked. This is a great place to come and get your coffee beans. They have a variety of roasts and always have at least a few organic coffee options. They use the air roasting process in-store and store the beans frozen. This results in a fantastic flavor from the first cup to the last. I particularly enjoy their Panama coffee, but I haven't found one I didn't like. They also have two coffees that you can have a cup of while you are there, which is a great way to sample the different options. There is a small selection of brewing options (e.g., pour overs, aeropress) and filters (unbleached) available for purchase. My husband and I also really enjoy coming to the first Friday events which include beverages, food, and a nice art selection. Overall, they are a great option for locally roasted coffee and the staff are very friendly and helpful. read more

They have a simple mission at The Coffee Roaster: make the best f'ing coffee anywhere. They focus on a limited number of beans and air roast. The Panama is my favorite, always available and consistently amazing. All I do is grind at home and pour-over using the cheap Melitta filter holder they sell for a few bucks. I live on the East Coast but always stop in to buy more when in town. When I stopped by last week I was glad to see they have tea again and now have easy web ordering. Highly recommend. read more

We drove by it and I thought, wow! A coffee roaster in the town I grew up in? I have to stop in and see what it's all about...I bought a lb of the espresso roast, and a half lb of the Kenyan roast. They also have a wide variety of other roasts including my personal favorite, Ethiopian Yirgacheff. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about roasting coffee! I prepared both the Kenyan and the espresso roasts in my pour over with a medium/coarse grind. Both were amazing! The freshness of the roasts led to the longest bloom I've ever seen in my pour over, it was over 30 seconds and the coffee/water mix nearly doubled in size! The taste of the Kenyan was a rich classic coffee taste with a hint of chocolate finish without any bitterness or over-roasted taste that comes standard at that well known national chain. I can't wait to try the espresso roast in my superautomatic espresso machine when I get back home to San Diego. The prices were excellent at about $12-15 per lb of fresh air roasted coffee, which is what you'll pay for inferior coffee from that well known national chain. If you love coffee, or want to up your coffee game to discover what you've been missing, this is the place to go!!! Also, please don't ask them to grind, buy whole beans and grind yourself, while you're at it, throw your K machine and drip coffee pot with carafe heater in the donate pile. Life is too short for mediocre coffee! read more
