Now I have had Fish & Chips here multiple times. Although the Haddock costs more, Diane and I have found that we prefer the Cod. But, either one has always been rather large, with a crispy battered coating on the outside, and steaming, perfectly cooked white flesh on the inside. Yet of late I have become less enamored with the Clam Chowder served here, which is different than most. It is always scorchingly hot, and very potatoey and floury in taste. Coleslaw has been good but could use a bit of salt. And French Fries have always been hot and tasty, and soft enough to wave in the air. A squat bottle of Pure leaf No Sugar Iced Tea (with two packets of Sweet & Low) is a great beverage for washing everything down. Workers here are very friendly and helpful. The chips were cooked well, though they were a little bland for my taste. The clam chowder, unfortunately, wasn't very good. Looks and feels like a tradtional pub in England or Ireland. Staff is friendly, patience in answering questions and welcoming. The fish is cooked to perfection - cripsy on the outside and moist in the inside. The clam chowder has bits and pieces of bacon - should have more clams. Decided to finally visit The Codfather to ironically celebrate Independence Day! The place was crazy popular, but we placed our order and the cashier pointed out a booth had opened up! Lucky for us - and we got the Bowie table, which was fun for us old rock and rollers. We're vegetarian and always want to support restaurants that have thoughtful dishes we can eat on their menus - so we each got the vegan fish and chips, my partner got an additional side of cole slaw. We dined in for the first time and we were very pleased with the service and taste of the Fish and Chips we ordered the Haddock and Catfish. Big pieces of the Fish and portions of the hand-cut chips were perfect. The Clam Chowder was filled with delicious clams and potatoes. I had seen the Codfather multiple times driving around Henderson, and was so glad that I got to go there yesterday. What a treat this is, especially for people that love fish and chips One thing I have to say, is they actually have British people on staff! It's always cool when you're at a fish and chips place and someone comes up and gives you your food and speaks to you with a British accent. As someone who has traveled to England and Scotland, I have had some of the best fish and chips in the world. That being said, this place is as close to authentic English fish and chips as I've had yet. I did not have the cod, I decided to upgrade to the haddock, which is what the gentleman at the counter told me. And he was 100% right. Eat it while it's hot!!! Woman wanted to come here for a catfish sandwich (which they do not have). We did do the catfish & chips and I was curious about the pea fritters. Like she did w the mashed peas she told us it was ok if we didn't like it. It was shrink wrapped so I didn't bother it at the time. We shared a fritter w malt vinegar (my fave!) and it was fabulous! As was the fish. It was a big, fluffy piece that was sweet and tasty! We talked about getting another fish to go but they were already cleaning the kitchen. I wouldn't expect spice with British food, but I usually steer clear of curry bc of the spice favor. This was perfect! All the curry flavor with zero of the burn! Plenty of fish and chips at sports bars and other casino restaurants, but not any dedicated place. Back in Sacramento Valley, we have lots of fish and chips places, maybe jus ta local thing in Sacramento. I'll say the fish here I think is better than the fish pieces we have back home. My local places use pollock fish I think which is still better than those frozen battered fish fingers most sports bars fry up. Here at the Codfather, it's one huge big piece of cod, pretty thick too. The chips (fries) are sort of normal. Gotta use the malt vinegar and salt to be authentic British! Eureka! I've found it! I've seen a large number of videos from English fish & Chips shops. They feature a huge, flat piece of battered fish, set atop or beside a plate of chips (French fries). The Codfather restaurant is just such a place. The inside is fairly small, perhaps 20 tables or booths. One places their order at a counter near the entrance, gets a number, finds a table and places the plastic number on it. The wait is not instant, since the food is cooked to order. It arrived piping hot delivered by someone with an English accent. One feels like they might actually be in London. I ordered the Haddock & Chips, and a small bowl of Clam Chowder. The meal comes with a drink. (Miles got the chicken fingers & Chips -- he doesn't like fish). The Chowder was tasty with plenty of clam pieces. Not an intense flavor, but nicely seasoned. The main plated arrived in about 15 minutes. My plate looked exactly like that at the English Chippy -- a large piece of fish set atop nicely cooked fries. It came with a container of tartar sauce. I sprinkled salt and malt vinegar from special large containers on the table, on the chips and fish. The fish was exquisite, crispy outside and flaky, tasty flesh, inside. The fish was light tasting with a natural sweetness, the coating tasty. The tartar sauce was pleasantly tangy, a great addition to the fish. When we got there (just after 12:00) there were about four or five parties seated, there was no one in line, so we ordered right away. As we were sitting there, the place filled up.
