My 10 year old son has been taking tutorials at Coder School since he was 7 years old. We started with block coding and Scratch, building games that introduced logic and conditions. Last year, we started Python and have been expanding on the game building. We are so happy with the tutorials that we've been taking other classes they offer like the typing and camps (3D printing), I even took a intro to AI/ChatGPT class. My son attended The Coder School for nearly three years from the end of 6th grade to the beginning of 9th grade. When he started, he had a general concept of coding, but through the school, he was able to learn scratch.io, python, and later, gamemaker. He had a consistent instructor who helped a lot to learn the basics for creating games in scratch and python. He also made a good friend who he hangs out with outside of class. During his time at the school, he was always into coding and working at home on the projects from the school. The games he has come up with are amazing. Some are simple and as he got older the games got more complex from Mario style runners to candy dropping to dungeon style games. I think the school is a great place that stimulated him in his love of coding, which carried on to today in high school. The staff has always been kind and welcoming and accommodating to our schedule. I highly recommend The Coder School particularly for younger kids who want to solidify the basics and eventually develop their own skills. Thank you everyone! read more

This organization has called us dozens of times over the past few months trying to get us to sign up for their class. Finally, after 30+ calls, we agreed to go but only if they would comp the class and call it a free audit. The class was set up in a corner long desk with a ton of computers in a row on two sides. We had taken one-on-one classes before, but this class felt like a total money grab. It wasn't educational and it wasn't fun at all! We don't want to go back, but they keep calling us and texting us and emailing us. Worst of all, they are trying to charge us for the single class they told us would be free! Very disappointing. We did a trial here about a month ago. We were allowed to wait in the waiting area they have while our son went in the back for his instruction. It's only a few feet away so we were present the whole time. As he had his lesson, we made conversation with the intake guy (I don't remember his name) but he was super friendly, so was the instructor, Natasha. Our son already knew how to do a lot of things he was taught but it was nice for him to actually know the terms and it was more streamlined for him to understand. I really recommend this place and hopefully, we can go back very soon! read more

What a wonderful resource. Coders will one day rule the earth it seems, and knowing what it's all about is a potentially valuable skill for the new generation. It was great to see our son and his friends becoming progressively engaged and intrigued by the lesson the Coach teaches as a group. Although these boys in their puberty stage can be quite difficult to manage, the Coach made it fun, challenging, and collaborative to win them over. We attended the Grand Opening back in February and was completely impressed and booked them on the spot. They provide a wide range of programs that cater to a child's individual needs. Since this new crisis they have been able to shift into an online version to continue running their programs. My 11 year old son looks forward to his weekly lessons and is quickly broadening his creativity. The coaches are gentle and caring of the learning of each child. My son has taken semi-private lessons with Alex at The Coder School Pasadena for over 3 years. It's his all-time favorite activity and has propelled his interest in coding and gaming. My daughter started coding as an activity during quarantine, but likes it so much that she continued and even registered for a coding class in high school. The coaches are great at guiding them without giving the solution. The projects have become more complex and requires much more analysis, but it is engaging enough that she doesn't give up! read more

I can't speak highly enough about The Coder School. My 10-year-old niece was indicating some interest and aptitude in computer technology. Being technology Luddites, her parents and I were totally clueless on what to do to support her. That's when I found The Coder School. She just loves it! Every week, she looks forward to her class (now remote) with her coach. The classes are tailored just for her and coach Cindy is super encouraging. She's learning computer programming in a fun and supportive environment, but she is also learning other important life skills that will serve her well in the future. The Coder School has been such a wonderful part of my son's life. He had no real experience with coding, and then during quarantine when I was looking for something for him to do, he took a trial class online with Coach Alex. When it was over he said "Mom, I can't believe that was an hour, it felt like 15 minutes~it was SO FUN!" Since then he has been in a small group class for over a year and he loves it. It makes me happy that if he's going to be on the computer, he is at least learning a valuable skill and having a great time doing it. Our daughter has been coaching one on one with Coach Charlie for a few months with a goal of one day building out her own game in Roblox. She's started in scratch and together they have created an amazing game. She is excited every Saturday morning and we love hearing her laugh and come up with great ideas. Coach Charlie provides detailed feedback after each session which we are able to share with her and cheer her on! They delve into concepts that reinforce what she's learning in class but in a fun way. We have no doubt she'll be able to achieve her roblox goal while learning valuable skills along the way. Our son had an amazing experience doing one of the Coder School Pasadena's remote game design summer camps this year. He was able to do it from home and we were very impressed with the level of engagement the teachers had with the kids. Everyone was having such a good time! Our son kept working on his games even when camp was over for the day. We overheard him say to his little brother, "I think this coding camp is the best thing that's ever happened to me." LOL soo cute! After camp, his main teachers sent really detailed feedback about our son's progress during camp. This feedback from his teacher almost took our breath away. They clearly got to know our child quite well in a week, which means they took a real interest in him. That's awesome! Highly recommend this organization for camps and classes. We will be attending again soon. It's also a wonderful activity for these pandemic times.
