We cannot recommend this camp enough! This past summer, my 11yo and 7yo daughters participated in a production of Wicked here, and had such a wonderful time! They learned so much about theater and still regularly keep in touch with the friends they made. My 14yo also took their classes in Photography and Stage FX Makeup -- the Makeup class in particular was a truly unique experience you would be hard to find anywhere else. She wants to take debate as her elective next year in 7th grade and this camp looks like an awesome opportunity for her to get her feet wet and see how she likes it. Here's a little about the debate camp if you are interested for your child... Performing Arts Workshops' DEBATE CAMP (for ages 9-14) is a fun non-competitive academic program where kids use team debate as a platform into learning public speaking, voicing their opinion, and also develop listening & critical thinking skills. The PAW curriculum provides campers with age appropriate topics, which they explore every aspect of, and teaches them how to structure a debate discussion on those topics. Through this process, kids will discover that you can disagree and still be friends! The curriculum also demonstrates how to present and defend your own point of view...while still showing empathy for one another. Some of the workshops they get include; vocabulary building, voice and speech, pros and cons, problem solving, rebuttal, wordplay, debate strategy, debate of the day, and the most enjoyable, the round table discussions. Also, one of the most immediate benefits of this camp is how these skills can be used as a spring board for the next school year, while having a really fun summer experience. My son took magic camp this summer and he loved it. The magician was a professional magician and I watched some of his videos and he is amazing. The kids did a great job and he always looked forward to going to camp. Best of all it was located at my church, Throop Unitarian. It's just a coincidence that they were at my church but it made it very fun for us. Our daughter has attended PAWS camp for several years now. She usually attends the Musical Theater camp, which she has always loved. This year she went to the LOL Comedy Camp. It was only 4 days because of the July 4th holiday. And in that short time the comedy camp leader, Jace, did an awesome job! Our 10 year old daughter performed a routine with another young camper and we were impressed and entertained. We weren't sure what to expect but the kids did a great job, and even made up their own jokes. Thanks Jace for an excellent job. My daughter participated in The Greatest Showman Musical Theater program for two weeks and she is so excited to finally return to this camp. She had a great time interacting with kids of all ages, and loved all the teachers. The show they put on at the end was fantastic, and my daughter was always cheerful when I dropped her off, and cheerful when I picked her up. Her younger sister will be joining this year! read more

At the beginning of summer, My wife and I were so sad to not have our daughter's first experience with musical theater be in person due to Covid. As it turned out, Performing Arts Workshops has been an amazing experience for our Abigail! I was skeptical at first with our 6 year old daughter who had a hard time staying engaged on zoom at the end of her kindergarten school year. However, the staff at PAW are outstanding in keeping the program engaging, fun and exciting! She absolutely loves Mr. Joey and looks forward to every Young Dancers Workshop he teaches! She also has been taking Ms. Angela and Mr. Joey's Young Singers Workshop which has really brought up her confidence in her singing. Ms. Angela is incredibly talented and with Mr. Joey's energetic and goofy persona Abigail is engaged and is having a blast while learning about characters, storylines and acting in musical theater. This camp exceeded my expectations! I had gotten a coupon from a friend and decided to try this camp out on a whim. Both my kids had been in other theater camps and they did some cute performances and theater games etc. I thought that is what were getting into with PAWS. I was wrong. My kids worked with some talented actors, directors and writers to put on an impressive performance of Alice in Wonderland. it was so entertaining - set to the music of Queen. The kids were so dedicated and excited to work on this and I was so impressed with the results. Plus my kids loved going to camp every day. read more

First time at "PAW" this summer for our 9 year-old twins and they are loving it. One of them is doing the Guitar camp, the other chose Musical Theater and both are having the most wonderful time there. Fun and professional environment offering a great variety of activities and original camps with a specific focus ranging from Musical Theatre, Guitar, Photography, Filmmaking, Singing & Recording etc... The instructors are great. Engaging, but also well-prepared and organized thus offering well-structured, ultra fun days to the children. Not just a daycare of usual arts & craft. At "PAW", children do learn specific artistic skills while having a lot of fun over the learning process at the same time. PAW also offers Winter and Spring break camps. Highly recommend. My daughter is planning on attending the musical theater camp this summer and I've been so impressed with Performing Arts Workshop's scholarship program. They very generously work to sponsor kids who may not be able to attend two weeks of camp otherwise. For volunteering to spread the word about camp they offered us a week of free camp. My 9-year-old son just completed the Hogwarts-themed session. There are some good things about this camp. The kids work really hard, and the kids' performance at the end is really cute, albeit riddled with a good twenty minutes of shameless promotion of staff members and future camp sessions that is incredibly dull and has a cult-y air to it. The scripts are well-assembled - somebody spends a lot of time adapting the IP and songs. However, the bizarre and condescending behavior of Ms. Jessica, the director at the Pasadena (Orange Grove) location, is a deal-breaker for us. This is the second summer we tried this camp and we're just not okay with the way Ms. Jessica speaks to the kids. As one example, she repeatedly asks "Who's the boss?" and the kids are expected to reply, "You're the boss!" Not the end of the world, I guess, but definitely weird - I've never heard of this kind of talk at school or any other camp we've done, thankfully. Ms. Jessica also told the kids she didn't want anybody showing up for the performance with what she considered messy hair, and called out a few kids by name who, in her opinion, had messy and unacceptable hair. That behavior of Ms. Jessica's is insulting and 100% not acceptable to us. These are just two examples of Ms. Jessica's inappropriate behavior - my son has recounted many more. My husband also had a bad experience in trying to talk to Ms. Jessica's second-in-command - it seems the inappropriately aggressive attitude has permeated the top level staff. This camp is clearly not for everyone. If you are concerned with your kids being treated with respect and dignity, and having this behavior modeled by the adults in charge, you may want to investigate the zillions of other great theater camps available in LA. read more

WE LOVE PAW and everything about it. The camps are amazing and so much fun.. and the kids learn all aspects of Musical Theatre. - Singing, dancing, acting, comedy, stage direction, and so much confidence! We've been at 6. 7, 8 9 and 10 years old. The director is great at what she does. They're quite strict which I think keep the kids working hard rather than goofing off.. Thus the level of performance is quite high. and the kids really experience what true theatre is about. read more

We love PAW! This is our third year running.. They offer different programs but we have done the Musical Theatre Program all the years. Its so good.. The staff are kind and so fun The director is a superwoman!. The kids don't want to leave. They put on these insanely good performances which they learn over the two week camp. (Singing, dancing and theatre) I cant believe they accomplish so much in this time.. know all the steps and all the words.. They run it like a professional production laughing and having fun all the way. Its such a joy to see my 9 year old so happy doing something like live musical theatre. The confidence it builds is truly a gift. They have early morning drop off for free and I think after hours care till 5 or 6pm.. This year we are doing the film making camp there as well.
