The quality of teachers at the camp are poor. The teachers clearly don't have much experience teaching and are there to build experience to the quality is lacking in classroom management. The teachers do more of the work then the students. read more

I don't recommend this place at all. First, the quality of teachers who teach my kid is poor. The teacher doesn't have enough ability to manage/teach the class, letting the kid sit there for the whole class (1 hour) doing nothing when he was dealing with another student. Moreover, it is not the first time. The last class, the teacher debugged by himself for the whole class and let my kid sitting there doing nothing as well. Second, the school operation and system is a mess. They mismatched different level students in the same section. Further more, the teacher is new and inexperienced to teach this class. The school doesn't manage the teacher. The worst part is the management and the customer service. My kid was crying due to the frustration that the teacher not teaching him at all for the continuous two lessons. The front desk person pretended not knowing what was happened from the beginning until I told the details. Then she admitted that they had the internal discussion of the issue and will refund the class / change the teacher. But they cannot even guarantee the same thing won't be happened to my kid after changing the teacher. So there is no internal management for teachers. The way and the attitude of handling the issue showing me they don't have basic customer service. Wasting time and destroying the passion of a kid's learning is more than a refund! read more

We sent two kids there, but stopped going there in few months. They don't have a solid curriculum shared between the teachers to teach the students to reach the certain level, so each teacher has their own project that he/she let a student to work on. It's fine if you get a good teacher and keep learning from him/her, but we had to change the teacher due to the schedule conflicts of my son. It looks like there was no communication between the previous and new teachers, so the new teacher had to spend the entire class time to find out what my son was working on and tried to figure out how he can fix the project. The new teacher told me that it is because the project my son was working on was the previous teacher's own project. He doesn't know how he can take over from there. We ended up stating a new project.... Also, we enrolled our kids for semi-private classes, but they got a different teacher because the manager Zach told us they are at the different level. They match students with same level. My daughter was assigned to her teacher to learn Python, and my son was assigned to a different teacher to learn Scratch. Although, they were enrolled into a semi private class, they were only student since there was no matching student at the beginning. That's fine. Few weeks later, my daughter met another student who started to learn together. Surprisingly, the new student was just started to learn with Scratch, which was similar to my son's level.... I don't think they have a system to match the students actually. As the other reviewers mentioned, I don't think the class room is clean and healthy either. During the summer, they run AC and open the door, so I didn't feel much, but as it gets cold recently, they close the door. Whenever I stepped in the class, I smell something weird and feel air is not clean, circulating not enough or too many teachers and students in the small class area. I didn't ask my daughter, but she started to wear a mask when she goes in there and take off when she left the class by herself. We have just ended the contract of both kids and started to look for another place. Hope this helps you to judge. read more

I signed up my daughter and her friends after having a good experience with her big brother - she had fun, seems like a good intro to coding (may have to look elsewhere for more advancement) and high energy/friendly staff. Will likely not come back however because we are on the more cautious side with Covid protocol and they are on the more relaxed side. All kids are wearing masks which is great, but staff do not. At pick up, I arrived 10 minutes early and the entire class of kids (around 15 kids) is crammed into the tiny reception area with the front door closed waiting for their rides. I asked if the door could be propped open for better circulation but was told it wasn't safe because they have had issues in the past with random adults from the neighborhood wandering in and it was not safe. The windows in the classroom are kept closed all day as well. read more

Great way to get kids into coding ...started here in Palo Alto The Coder School My son and daughter both do weekly coding lesson and it has been a great experience. The staff are really top notch and take the time to make sure the kids understand what they are doing and also try to make it topical to games they might play like Fortnite or Minecraft Also check out their summer camps ! read more

My son is fast becoming an accomplished coder. He got interested at first on Khan Academy, then I wanted him to get more support and help speed up his learning. Now he works 1:1 with a "Code Coach" Felix at The Coder School. My son would spend every hour until bedtime at The Coder School if he could. He also joined a team class which is building an app, a website to market it, etc. He just loves it. It's really a bright, open, inquisitive environment. He learns and is surrounded by other kids working on their own projects, or in teams, with really engaged teachers. The vibe is really fun here - I think that's because the founder also created School of Rock (which teaches how to play rock music). So it's not too nerdy here - yet, not too cool either. My son loves it. He now exceeds anything I've ever understood about computers! read more

I was very excited to send my child to the App Startup camp. I was incredibly disappointed to learn that this meant the kids looked up an assignment online and had to complete it. Why would I send a kid to a camp that did not teach kids about coding or brainstorming ideas for an app? Khan academy would have been better. Our 5th-grader-to-be son is now attending the CoderSchool summer camp in the Palo Alto location for the App Mini theme. We have been indeed very impressed by their program, and the kid has so much enjoyed the camp. Our son has showed great interest in math and chess in general. Now their camp has opened a completely new arena to him, which has inspired all his curiosity to pursue the unknown. During the past few nights of the week, our son had been always eager to demonstrate us what he did in the camp and would always like to continue to tweak his code for the rest of the evening. Last year our son attended a 1-week Scratch camp that cost approximately double as what the CoderSchool cost. However, we have to admit that the first day our son had achieved from the CoderSchool camp had way more exceeded whatever he learned during the last whole summer. read more

Cupertino location is great! My 10 year old daughter has been attending The Coder School Cupertino location for several months and she has learned a lot! She looks forward to her code class each week. My daughter loves her teacher, Hana who clearly and patiently explains what my daughter is working on, and they build on it each week. Hana definitely knows the subject matter and my daughter loves the 1 to 1 attention with her. I receive an email detailing what my daughter worked on and learned after each class from Hana. I highly recommend The Coder School Cupertino location because Hana is excellent and knows what she is talking about, the location is perfect and easily accessible from freeways 280 and 85, the environment encourages learning a skill that will continue to be in high demand, and the staff greets everyone with a smile. Yes, coding sounds boooring unless your kid is already building their own PCs in 6th grade. BUT, it is also the most important skill set they will need for any job they choose in their life. The Coder School in Palo Alto has given our 15yo daughter an amazing opportunity to learn to code while making it super entertaining. Unlike softball, swimming, theatre and other previous afternoon activities we hear nary a complaint from her when it is time to go to class. I could not think of a better endorsement. Her coach, Steven, is smart, fun and funny and has made sure he first and foremost teaches her at her pace and with whatever quirks make her happy instead of sticking to the rule book (super hard since coding is essentially a rule book). The staff are also always really responsive and friendly. Unlike most other after school activities this is really one where your kid will see a lifetime of payback and because they do it so well here, your child will actually want to do it! read more
