It's worth the time and effort to peruse its offerings and flip through the stacks of paintings - you never know what you'll uncover! Chris represents primarily local artists in the Maine/Mass/NH area and has a unique collection and taste. I've obtained some of my favorite paintings from his shop. No pretensions and no pressure to buy; Chris is also very happy to discuss the backgrounds and styles of the artists - and once he gets to know you, also willing to give favored pricing, discounts, or deals. I don't buy every time I visit, but Van Ward's been a favorite and de rigueur stop on our annual Maine vacations.

I liked that these exhibits didn't just feature art that was conventionally pretty, but rather featured works that were more provocative. This surprised me considering the museum is relatively small; I expected more traditional and old-fashioned works. I felt like each piece challenged the idea of what it truly means to be American. As an added bonus, the museum grounds are GORGEOUS. They are a must-explore when visiting Ogunquit. Next time I will bring a picnic blanket and plan to spend the day there. I think you can even take a dip in the ocean on their pebble beach. Overall such an amazing experience.

It was honestly hard to pick. There is lots of room in each room to really study the art despite the amount of people there. The view of the ocean as you walk in is its own beautiful painting. Outside they have beautiful gardens as well as the ocean view which had a nice breeze while we were there. There is a gift shop that had a nice sample of beautiful items. Plenty of parking with a complimentary post card. Saw kids also enjoying the art too . Plenty outside to see as well.

'21, my husband wanted to pay it forward with a gift. You'll find T-shirt and gift shops here in town- but what you won't get are tacky, cookie-cutter, souvenirs. Ogunquit, is nothing like that. Away from super-busy Shore Rd, Jack Duford's Hutchins House Arts is located on the opposite end in Perkins Cove. My husband is a Navy man so he was all smieyes when he first noticed the Maritime items and model boats by the window on our way to breakfast a few feet away. Not only will you find Jack Duford's own simple yet stunning seascape and spectacular sailing photographs here, but there's also a local artist collective who share the same Maritime passion, showcase their paintings and sell some home related items also under one roof. The photographs and fine art images here are unique. Service was great from Jack and was kind to bubble-wrap the frames my husband picked out for my two sisters. Paying $100 for both frames may seem like a lot, but whether they're for us or my sisters in this case, the images will last a lifetime.

While the outdoor space itself is a little rough-hewn, the displayed pieces are often intriguing, well-made, and beautiful. The Barn focuses on local artists and artisans, mostly from Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts, and has a juried art competition during the summer months. We are often quite impressed with the quality of the works exhibited. (All of the works are available for purchase.) The staff is knowledgeable and friendly -- there is no pressure to buy -- and the Barn in fact feels more like a museum than a retail gallery (it is a non-profit), except there is no permanent collection. We always feel welcome to visit and browse without any obligation to purchase. The Barn also hosts many workshops and seminars by local artists -- perfect for a quiet summer's eve!
