The main room consists of a bar, a seating/lounge area, and a dance floor with long tables situated at either side. It's a lovely room, very clean, modern, and welcoming. It'd be a lovely place to hold any milestone birthday, engagement party, wedding reception, etc. The prices of drinks at the bar were pretty reasonable, and space to relax or to mingle and chat. The dancefloor is a good size - definitely plenty of room for all your friends' and families' embarrassing dance moves, and all those dance-along favourites like the (heeeey) Macarena! This is definitely the kind of place I'd think of hiring for any big special occasion.

It was a ticketed event and I managed to get a ticket at the last minute, so ventured on over as I was already in town. The event was held in a massive warehouse inside SWG3, and consisted of both Scoop and Smoak having massive New York-style street food trucks set up in the back of the room, cooking a beautiful smelling (and equally beautifully tasting) selection of foods from mac and cheese, pork belly and chicken sliders to lamb neck, smoked trout and a monkfish BLT. The food was exceptional, if a bit pricy, and I had a great time with Emma M and a selection of other food bloggers! The venue itself is wonderful and would lend itself nicely to any sort of event; be it a birthday party or a massive Yelp event with stalls and drinks and merryness. It can be a bit cold as it is a warehouse, and the toilets are located no where near the main room, but if you can look past all the negatives, including it's slightly dodgy looking location, then you would love this place for any sort of event.

Some of Glasgow's Street Food Cartel were there, as they often are, and I had some amazing vegan pizza with butternut squash from the So La Ti Dough guys. Beer was the drink of the day, naturally, and there was plenty on offer from the various bars throughout the venue. Big, bare, airy and remote, SWG3 was a bit cold and soulless for my liking, but it's ideal for many of the art events and exhibitions it hosts.

As soon as I arrived, I went and grabbed a cuppa and some fancy biscuits. The staff were great as per and OMG the tea. Never before have I had tea at a corporate event and thought about how good it was. But this was some darn good tea! It was also much needed as I'd just traipsed through the rain to get there, so it definitely made me feel a lot better. They also had a buffet on and even the other attendees were commenting on how great everything was - again, didn't expect much from a corporate event but it was just so good! They had things like chicken skewers and everything, even the sandwiches, was seriously tasty. Didn't think I'd ever have a favourite AGM, but this one is definitely winning so far! (I also snuck down to the library on my way out to gawp at it, because I am seriously in love with that room. Oft.) If I was throwing a fancy do or some other type of event where I wanted to impress, I would definitely look into booking Fifteen Ninety Nine and just hope I could afford it!

This building is a beautiful converted church and has a cozy, intimate atmosphere inside. At the Arts Centre you can see all sorts of music, drama and comedy. I fell in love with the place after going to see a musician friend play a set in the café/bar area. It was just him, a stool, a mic and an acoustic guitar. This area is tiny with stone walls and wooden floors and can only fit about 30 people but it created the perfect atmosphere for an acoustic gig. The Arts Centre also runs regular classes and workshops in drama and music and can also be hired as a venue for private functions.

You actually feel like you could be up north somewhere, out in the country, as opposed to half an hour from Edinburgh. The Vu's main purpose is as a bar, restaurant and wedding venue, plus an events space for other functions. My friend's wedding ceremony was held in the Water Lily section of the venue, which is basically a small indoor space for the wedding vows, with a really striking location, jutting out over Ballencrieff Reservoir, on the waterfront. As a place for a wedding ceremony, I thought the views over the water, and the light and beams of sunshine spilling through the tall windows, made it particularly beautiful. The decor is classic, elegant, and mainly white, as weddings usually are, with a touch of purple, which comes through in the lighting scheme too. The Oasis Suite, where the reception was held, is a nice size, being not too overbearingly huge. The meal was really tasty, and there was a good bit of dance space for some ceilidh moves, and the band that played afterwards. This was truly a lovely, contemporary and intimate place to celebrate my friend's wedding.

To be honest I have an arm length of issues from my special day which some what ruined it after the occasion as on the day I focused on my wedding day and didn't let it bother me. I complained but got nowhere, I got told they would have a meeting to cover my issues and get back to me but heard nothing at all. I asked for it to be escalated to the manager and owner a couple of times but again did not hear back. I have had a couple of friends who got married here after I recommended the venue to them, this was before my wedding date. They had a few issues too which I hoped the Vu had sorted out by the time their wedding happened. I told them what happened to me so that it wouldn't happen to them but seems some things still went wrong :(. It is a lovely venue and I'm sure a lot of weddings go well and they do their job but they didn't for me and I wouldn't recommend them because of this. For a business that conducts around 2 weddings a day every day they need to learn a lot about the most special day in someone's life. I hope this helps you decide of it's the place for you or even stop any of the issues I had happen to you on your day.

There are also various church/fellowship meetings held here including the Largs Spiritualist Church on Sunday afternoons. There is disabled access and toilets just inside the entrance. The corridor then opens out into a large hall with an attractive arched ceiling and a basic 'kitchen' at the back where tea and coffee can be made. There are many chairs stacked against the walls which can provide seating for quite a large number of people. Last year at this time of year (November) there was talk in the local press of closing down its current use, to save money (apparently just £3,700 per year) but, so far, it remains open. I think it's a pleasant and very useful building and it would be a shame to see it close down goodness knows what would happen to it then!
